Rory was superb last year and won me some very serious money, I like him and dont blame him at all for taking the NIKE money, BUT, the cost of that healthy bank balance is undoubtably more severe than Rory would have estimated, I am fairly sure the impact of new clubs will be overcome, but only fairly sure as the longer it takes for him to get back the more danger there is that he never gets back, and believe me for all Rory seems calm when interviewd inside he will be close to panic! When you look at his form lately its not just rusty its RUBBISH ! Hate to say it but on all known form at 29.0 this week he must be one of the greatest Open lays ever!

I think a bit too much is made of how Rory must be really depressed and worried ect, i honestly dont think he cares one bit, lifes good for him and he will win a tournie by the end of the year im sure.

mengmeng

When you et to the top of your sport and money is not a concern its all about achievements, YES he is worried and only the support team around him telling how to take positives from anywhere he can and to keep believing is keeping him relatively calm. When you hear him cooly saying yes my position fine I am only 6 behind the leader going into round two and then he misses the cut you know its all bluster and he at present is in an ugly no mans land that he cant find a way out of !
Report mengmeng July 16, 2013 1:29 PM BST
It's a fair point but you are making the assumption that he places the importance of achievements and his golfing legacy the same as say Tiger, maybe he has just changed his priorites and happy to let his natural talent grab him the few wins he needs and semi coast for the rest of his life.

Or its just a slump, people were saying similar the beginning of last year and the year before.Who knows whats in his head but it can't be as bad as people are saying and that he needs to break up with wozza and do this and that with his management team or lack of.
Report DONEMYLOT July 16, 2013 1:30 PM BST
he is still a kid. they dont hot top form till 30-odd, let him enjoy himself ffs
Report gmt July 16, 2013 1:35 PM BST
I dont think Rory is the type to go what I call "Hollywood" ! He wants to be dominant and succesful, if you look at Adam Scott he is the best example of going "Hollywood", he went for around 2-3 years and to the credit of Tigers ex caddy he snapped him out of it and he got back to being a force in the game.
Report mengmeng July 16, 2013 1:42 PM BST
Again you are assuming thats what he wants, maybe all he wants his to spend time with wozza and play the odd bit of golf inbetween tennis matched and charity events, maybe a year or 2 of that he will realise what he's capable of and get back on track.

Not saying you are wrong just that nobody but him has a clue whats in his head.
Report Fallen Angel July 16, 2013 2:10 PM BST
he has always blown a bit hot and cold, just this cold spell has gone on a bit longer than most. he is the one in the top 10 where the price collapse could be more volatile than any given he already has two majors and any spark of form will cause the layers to panic! Personally I think backing RM @ 28/1 throughout his career you will make money as he will pick up enough tournaments when out of form, and he has always struck me as a player with the game for the open. If i was given a choice between Westwood and RM @ 28s each time then RM would walk it.

I know that the golf forum is desperately in need of more posters, but not this kind of tripe.

The problem with Rory is that he plays badly then bang.......he wins.....plenty brilliantly for a while then goes back to playing badly. His form reminds me of the 'boom and bust' economic policy so beloved by politicians.

odious sounds too strong for me also. Has won 2 majors at very young age, both breath taking performances, he doesn't have the single minded nature of woods but who else does. He had a fantastic end to last year and he has at least another 4-6 majors in him for me at a minimum. The change of clubs def appears to have taken some of the edge off but that magic could return as quickly as it appeared to dissipate, he is a bigger price now then the last three opens I believe and you know he has the bottle for it now.
Report TexassportsagentBuzz July 16, 2013 4:20 PM BST
IDK Anything about his Nike deal obviously but i would think its not guaranteed and he would have to win a certain amount of Tourneys get a certain amount of top 10's etc. or he wont get paid full-whack. If it is guaranteed money then rory is a genius and Nike are clowns...   I hear the rough is 4 feet high on this course so when you see shoulders and a cap sticking out of the Spinach chances are its Rory
Report jermaine defonebox July 16, 2013 7:37 PM BST
No point in caddy doesn't take the advice. Or the many who said dont change clubs just for money
Didnt he just recently split from woz via the press virtually blaming the poor girl for his  decline When it was more likely the other way round. Hes the one who has turned to blubber and would rather be advertising banks than be on the practice ground
Too big for his boots IMO and lets face it he win majors at the same time as Clarke and els hardly a lot if comp
Will never win another tourny

He like Tiger, who I like, not that most of you do... Are bully players. They get on top and you can see the body language. They both have a swagger but when things go wrong, the head goes down... They won`t graft for a win like other players... Phil And Kuch have a great chance this week as long as the wind doesn`t blow a gale & feck it up for all to make it a lottery. Same wind as Castle Stewart would be perfect and make it a real challenge.

Rory has had a poor year no doubt about that. For me he hasn't played enough and when he has he has missed too many cuts. He is a superb talent who can blow the rest away when he gets going. Whether he has the work ethic and commitment to go with his talent is another question. It wouldn't surprise me if he wins one of the years remaining majors.

Tiger won't graft for a win? Is this the same bloke who has won more than 25% of the time he has teed it up on the PGA Tour. The same guy who won a major on a broken leg?

I'm not Tiger's greatest fan , but the only time that his head goes down is when he's picking the ball out of the hole.

What you say is correct that Rory has class, but for him to come out in the Open and win when he has shown NO signs whatsoever of being anywhere near the game he needs to be competitive is yes possible but very unlikely the chances in relation to decimal odds are in my opinionnearer to 40.0s !

Why can`t Rory just give the driver a miss this week, unlikely Tiger will be using his as he understands it`s all about plotting your way around. Rory is a long sweet hitter of the ball, he could quite easily just hold back a few yards for accuracy and be in the mix this week.

Change of clubs. Can see him and nike parting ways. Surely if he doesn't sort it out by the end of the year they will part company. Both losing out at the moment. Madness to switch clubs given the run he was on last year. I know the money was crazy but surely he must regret doing it now. He won't be able to stomach much more of this. He's playing six of the next seven weeks. If he's playing like this i expect a mystery injury to appear. He's not going to go out and miss cuts. It's gone very badly wrong and Rory needs to sort it out soon as the rest will leave him behind not matter how talented he is.
