Playing the women tennis winner market for the first time......laid all my small green on Bart at 1.01 and now 1.18. Very comical. Does it happen often?
Perhaps i should get involved a bit more.....my time zone only.
Report Deplasterer July 6, 2013 3:36 PM BST
Good lad Weisberger.
Report Quincy July 6, 2013 3:41 PM BST
I told you it was good value, Ski.  My first move was to lay Bartoli at 1.31, then at 1.03, then backed at 1.12 and 1.19 for a profit.  One point against the serve and the prices move 20 per cent.  Having said that, I didn't play to well.  Lisicki was layable at 1.28 in the first set.
Report Ski-Wiz July 6, 2013 3:46 PM BST
Lisicki was layable at 1.28 in the first set.

Missed that one......started after the 1st set was played.

You're right the prices movements are volatile.

Report Quincy July 6, 2013 3:49 PM BST
It looks like the French Open has gone t**s up for me.  Going to move some of my green on Sterne.  Either to Dyson or to lay McDowell and Bjorn @ about 4/5 coupled.  Then it's a pop at one out of Davis, Hoffman and Chappell in the Greenbrier.

I like to stick to what i know best. Also don't want to spend my life indoors trading 24/7. Did tennis as it was on BBC and the same time as golf. If it was on Tuesday i wouldn't have bothered.

Certainly not getting involve with NFL/NBA, assuming USA rubbish, as know nothing about those sports.

Report Quincy July 6, 2013 3:52 PM BST
No idea, Ski.  I would have thought that the Men's would have had the 5 second in-play delay yesterday.
Report Ski-Wiz July 6, 2013 3:54 PM BST
Disappointed with Zano today....biggest green and he goes into meltdown.

Just need Storm to get a birdie or 2 and the book will be ok.....would be 10 times better if Zano played properly.

Fair point about sticking to what you know, but from a time perspective, a basketball game is 2 hours and an NFL game 3 and a half. Golf is 4 days... with far less liquidity. Educate yourself, won't go broke laying low in either sport just like Tennis. As I said, right up your alley as a trader. Could spend more time playing golf instead of watching it.

Because the winner market IS the final when the final is in play. Winner market not in play at any point until the final. Will 100% be the same tomorrow.

Report Ski-Wiz July 6, 2013 4:14 PM BST
I see......

Winner market not in play at any point until the final.

It was in the semi-final....
Report Ski-Wiz July 6, 2013 4:16 PM BST
McDowell and Bjorn are bring the others back in.....
Report mengmeng July 6, 2013 4:17 PM BST
it was the womens final today ? so thats why delay in the betting on outright market surely
Report therhino July 6, 2013 4:20 PM BST
Let's try again... Semi final and everything beforehand, winner market has no delay. Once the final starts though, as there is only two runners and the winner is decided by the outcome of that match, the winner market is turned in-play and basically becomes a second match odds market. If the winner market had no delay in the final the match odds market would be redundant, which it could be anyway really.
Report Ski-Wiz July 6, 2013 4:28 PM BST
True rhino.....winner market and match market seems very daft.
Report mengmeng July 6, 2013 4:37 PM BST
but people might have existing liabilities on the outright market due to trading during the tournie so there needs to be 2 separate markets to cover this
Report therhino July 6, 2013 4:43 PM BST
Would all be settled though meng aside from any positions taken on the finalists which are still relevant to in play moves in the final. Doesn't matter as it doesn't adversely effect anyone just a little oddity having two markets running that are identical.
Report Ski-Wiz July 6, 2013 4:49 PM BST
Very open tomorrow....anyone from -2 to -5 can win this.
Report frames July 6, 2013 4:50 PM BST
The Bjorn interview just went 1000.
Report mengmeng July 6, 2013 4:50 PM BST
true, i know it sounds strange and probably just in my mind but in the outright market you got guys who would have the finalists at massive odds,so psychologically i would feel at a disadvantage trading in that market at the final odds against people who probably already have massive greens on eachside built up throughout the tournament, so feel on a more level playing field betting on a new market for it.

sounds crazy i know but i like having the 2 markets up as they have been built up in different ways.
Report Ski-Wiz July 6, 2013 4:50 PM BST
In some tourny, like football, have match and winner market because football has a draw element in it meng....tennis don't.

The problem with horses is getting on at the prices you want.  7.30 Nottingham, starting backing My Time @ 11.5 this morning.  Took 4 hours to get matched and there's only £23k matched in total and you have to halve that.  7pts @ 11.5, lay 8pts in running @ 9.
9 pts profit for the win, 1 pt for the loss.  It works because I lay 87 per cent of them in running, but I struggle to find one a day.

sonofshinner, All prices cab be expressed as a percentage.  The best way for a novice is a piece of paper, a pencil and a calculator.  Divide 100 by the price. McDowell is 3.25 to lay, 100 divided by 3.25 = 30.77%, Richard Sterne is 6.2 to lay, 100/6.2 = 16.13%, Wiesberger is 7.6 to lay, 100 divided by 7.6 = 13.16%.  The three added up come to just over 60%.

So if you lay the three, you are laying 4/6 the three coupled.  There used to be a table published in the Sporting Life giving the percentages for bookmakers prices, haven't seen one for years.

The other way is a simple Excel spreadsheet.  Three columns, 100 in the first (a), the price in the second (b), and the third is column a divided by column b.

Or you could just click the lay box of the three on here, fill in a stake(just don't click "Place bets) and tick the "Show % Book" box beneath and instantly see combined lay %.
