Erratic player Michelson is. Brilliant one moment, duff the next. That`s his style of play.

The way Rose has been playing he was goning to win a major eventually. doesn't take away from the fact that Mickelson is a choke artiste

Ridiculous slur on a great golfer. As regards ''going to win
a major eventually'', do you only say things like that AFTER
they win one? Will you be saying that AFTER Donald or Westwood
win one, if they ever do?

even his caddy was not getting excited when he made that flukey eagle, the caddy knew he was not going to win

Backing Phil in the Open is never the way forward. It is strange that he has been runner up 6 times. With a man of his winning ratio would have expected him to finish at least one off.Fair play to Rose, that was a quality 2nd to the 18th,the guy has real metal.Think missing all those cuts at the start of his career has done him a huge favour in the long run.

so many shots thrown away over the 4days.rose -2 for that mickey mouse par 3.mickelson 2 over.lost count of the many great approaches that almost went in for eagle only to see him walk off with par.even with all those shots thrown away he was still right there.then those two shocking wedge shots sealed his fate.such a great golfer but really threw this one away.fair play to rose seems like a very nice bloke.gutted for phil but when you miss so many putts and mess up on so many easier shots then you can have no complaints when you dont win

Yeah....

I guess that's why he's ranked 8th strokes gained, and 14th all round.

A lot of garbage spouted on this thread.

The early doubles sealed his fate, which had him getting too aggressive in later holes. I just wish he would win one, but it is sadly looking unlikely now.

Error of judgements on 13 twice simply were not good enough. The approach on 15 was awful, whilst the save-try on 5 left him with an impossible putt. Despite that, cutting the db's to just bogeys has him virtually win it.

Thats life, they all do it.

he was unlucky on the 5th his third was inches from rolling down to the hole and he was left with a difficult putt. His wedge to 13 was a poor shot. As has been said by others he simply didn't hole enough putts on sunday. At the end of the day he shot 74 with a hole out eagle.

phil said it himself.too many bad shots on easy approaches and "couldnt get the ball in the hole".shame because he hit some cracking shots all week.rose was too good for him on the final day.thoroughly deserved it

Can't accuse him of lacking bottle, he's just on the slide.

To be -3 after round 1 gave him the best he'll ever have, but he can't seem to put 4 decent rounds together now.

At quail hollow recently he led after Friday, but couldn't shoot under par over the weekend. Was even poor by his previous standards in this years masters.

Been great to watch, i've backed him every year for the masters since 1997, but he's not a punting proposition for me anymore on his form of the last year or so.

MW, almost all the other players managed the 5th, it was a hard green but there is a huge space to hit it to get it down there. Making doubles when you should make bogey were the key. Doesnt matter, job done, moving on....

Stu, He put 4 round together no probs whatsoever in Phoenix this year, to say he can't any longer is simply not true. Quail Hollow is a very tough track, and Merion is obviously nasty. His last 4 tournaments - 3rd, MC, T2 and T2. He is playing as well as ever, and to dismiss him from your punting thoughts with a form line like that is not exactly the shrewdest of moves in my opinion. I'm quite excited by the fact people are talking down a prolific winner in form like this and sincerely hope the layers agree with such thoughts.

i felt in the final round he looked spooked, and he and hunter were giving out to the officals about the par3 3rd 274yards etc, very odd,i rarely back phil but did last week, find it a bit bizarre also the amount of talking him and bones do exhausting all energy shirly?

Rhino - he'll win again, no doubt, but harder to call when imo.

The 3rd at Quail Hollow looks good on paper, but the weekend performance takes the gloss off that, and 2nd in the St Jude is fair considering the weaker field. US Open 2nd is good, but disappoiting following the opening round.

I'd love him to keep winning, and keep on playing, but personally can't back with any real confidence - hope i'm proved wrong.

Tiger Woods - total wins in majors when not leading after 54 holes = 0

Phil Mickleson  21st July 2013 - 5  shots off the lead after 54 holes winner  = 1

OP really should stick to his favoured sport Crazy

Awesome performance, I didn't back him but he is a worthy winner, he is in my opinion close to one of the best 10 golfers ever to pick up a club. He will get at least one more major before he calls it a day.
