I think Sergio will feel very upbeat about his performance last night. Played very solidly on the back nine. He outplayed Tiger with superb driving and iron play. His putting, inparticular holing out from 4-5 feet, was terrific and that will give him great confidence when he is in the mix on Sunday in the majors to come.

Not bothered about the tincup moment at 17, he went for glory and it failed. He will move on and a major champion this year imo.

SERGIO = THE BIGGEST LOSER IN GOLF
Report racingguru May 14, 2013 4:01 AM BST
Was a real shame - was looking forward to a Tiger/Sergio playoff. Maybe Sergio wasn't looking forward to it as much as I was!Laugh

He was one good coach/positive influence away from being, comfortably, the worlds second best player of his generation and a multi major winner, imo.Ridiculousy talented but was always a spoilt child,he didn't help himself by surrounding himself by yes men and all made a dollar from the "Sergio" machine.

Butch Harmon always maintained Sergio was more talented than Tiger as a pure golfer.......so something went drastically wrong somewhere.

"I think Sergio will feel very upbeat about his performance last night"..............your havin a laugh..........he was level with two to play and put 3 balls in the water...........doesnt matter how well you play............its about getting the job done

To be great you need more than ability. You need mental toughness.

Tiger has it in spades probably more than any other sportsman ever. The way he has come back shouldn't be underestimated.

As said above Garcia comes across as spoilt kid. He is fine when everything is going his way but the moment it doesn't the bottom lip goes and toys come out of the pram.
Report Hank Hill May 14, 2013 10:14 PM BST
You could name a fair few major winners with less natural talent that Garcia. However, that means little if you have an inferior mental game. I don't think many would argue that his talent deserves a major, but he is weak mentally. I thought his line about never winning a major was a bit of reverse psychology, now I think he genuinely believes it. Sad really.
Report clarkey May 14, 2013 11:08 PM BST
In all fairness to Garcia,he's done well himself to come back into contention for these type of tournaments given his truly unbelievable putting problems of the past decade.I think he led driving and GIR for a good few years yet was constantly last in putting stats. That, along with his failure to be able to start his backswing would have broken many a man.

We all know Tiger would eat him alive on the back 9 of a major but i still see a spark of Seve deep down in Garcia that's trying to get out.I just wish he would let his emotions show like when he was younger,it would make him a far better player than the sullen figure we see these days.
