If I back a 1,000 shot for a few quid, at which stage would anybody recommend laying him off and for how much, what price etc please?

Lay off the full green at 1.01 and flip it all back when the price hits 1000 again

ok since you seem like you actually want some advice on this 'unanswerable' topic, i'll take it seriously and treat it not like a troll.
have you seen the tv show 'deal or no deal'?
treat it EXACTLY like that.
that's it.

In the unlikely event that I would back a 1000 shot. Invariably they should be longer odds but 1000 is the max on betfair. I would probably look to get my stake back at around 200. From there it just depends on a thousand different scenarios. If you are lucky enough that your man was to get close it's just a matter of how careful/greedy you want to be. In a typical scenario I would probably take a decent profit at 20 and take it from there. Who did you have in mind? If you don't mind me asking.

Lay off when you feel that the odds would not go any lower.

Very simple.

It depends on where you have backed it, if on Betfair you may be best not to lay it off, with a bookie at a time the odds reflect value to lay in youir opinion

OP probably wants to back Jeff Gove. I'll wait till pokeron the caddy posts, he usually knows the score.

trebor, I'm not sure I get the logic behind your statement.
Why is it better to lay off if he has backed him with a bookie rather than on here ?

Actually, if it was the other way round, it would make a little more sense.

Yeh your correct Eddie, not much thought in my answer, tho it could be said that I am not an expert at laying off a 1000/1 bet, Possibly the only time I have backed a player at those sort of odds other than to free up funds he went on to win the tournament and I got out way way too early.

I'm hearing good things about Jeff Gove... Might have to back him this week. If I jump on at 1000s can anyone tell me when I should lay off?
