Does the winner of the Texas Open get a spot , or is the cut off point this week ?

Reason I'm asking is because it doesn't look like Charles Howell is teeing it up next week, which is strange if it means he's giving up a potential place at Augusta.

Charlie is a local boy, never did much around that track from memory, not like Larry Mize!!
Report maggot March 31, 2013 5:26 PM BST
Thanks guys.

He had a top twenty last year, and he is currently in great form, but I would have thought that all professional golfers would go all out and grab an opportunity to play The Masters, irrespective of their record at the place.

I guess he has his reasons.

Was huge pressure on him when he made his debut there years back. Was considered the next big thing, never worked out for him, seems lovely lad.Found his ball in the deep rough at the Open last year and was ever so grateful. Not always the case with pros.

Sorry,kind of gone off topicLaugh.
Report donny osmond March 31, 2013 5:39 PM BST
a top 3 this week might be enough to get him through via world rankings .......
Report maggot March 31, 2013 5:43 PM BST
AHH.. In that case... Come on Chucky.. Had a few bob on him @ 300s for Augusta. No show no bet.
Report Eddie the eagle April 1, 2013 8:52 AM BST
Howell didn't make the world top 50 rankings, so he'll be watching from his couch like the rest of us Sad
Report therhino April 1, 2013 9:32 AM BST
I had a free green on Chucky, most disappointed he didn't get in.
Report donny osmond April 1, 2013 12:18 PM BST
sterne, freddie jacobson, stenson, all in now on this weeks rankings
Report stonecold- April 1, 2013 12:41 PM BST

Report Puggy4 April 1, 2013 1:17 PM BST
he did win
Report stonecold- April 1, 2013 1:21 PM BST
i know he won.thought from what com said he would be in the masters but missed out
Report donny osmond April 1, 2013 1:23 PM BST
siem was in a qualifying spot after his win,  but henly picked up 1.37 points which knocked siem from 50th to 51st in the rankings

ouch
Report stonecold- April 1, 2013 1:25 PM BST
cheers donny very unlucky for siem
Report Mighty Whites 2008 April 1, 2013 1:54 PM BST
Siem must have been gutted especially as Henley was already in.
Report golfnut April 1, 2013 4:02 PM BST
Im sure that i heard somewhere siem has an invitation to texas this week to give him another chance...
Report ReaseHeath April 1, 2013 7:31 PM BST
yeaah, he said in his interview after win in Morocco that he'd been invited and was gonna play in Texas this week.
Report Ski-Wiz April 1, 2013 8:28 PM BST
Thought Henley already in because he won a PGA event?
Report donny osmond April 1, 2013 8:53 PM BST
he was ski, but those few points he picked up prevented siem being in the top 50

it wasnt an either or situation, the committee invite the top 50 from the week before the masters if they havnt
already been invited
Report Charlie Drake April 1, 2013 9:28 PM BST
Does anybody think Tiger is value at such a skinny price? I'll be looking for value at some of the massive prices nearer the time. Probably an American will win it again.
Report Ski-Wiz April 1, 2013 10:16 PM BST
Value - No.

Tiger had won 3 times this year but his tee shot were dodgy at best....kept missing the fairways and little rough or trees so he was able to get back in it. This won't happen at the masters as too many trees.

He would need to be more accurate off the tee hence wait and see until he plays before backing.
Report Mighty Whites 2008 April 1, 2013 10:31 PM BST
If he putts like he has recently he will win regardless of where he hits it off the tee.
Report donny osmond April 1, 2013 11:08 PM BST
i tend to agree mighty whites but its harder to putt that well at augusta

7/2 not great value to me, but hes by far the most likely winner imo
Report SophieB April 2, 2013 2:01 AM BST
Always fun (and profitable if guessed right) to try and predict Tigers starting SP.
Layed at 4.7 as would be surprised if he doesn't go off at at least 5's on the high street, so maybe 5.2 on here.
Thoughts?

Donny, whilst i doubt Tiger will be putt as well as he has had recently i don't buy into the it is impossible to putt really well at Augusta. Yes they are undulating and if you get on the wrong side of the hole very slick. However the holes are effectively in the same position every year so the  more experienced players tend to know the lines and where to miss with their approach shots.
Report donny osmond April 2, 2013 1:08 PM BST
i agree with all of that mighty whites
Report the stunning April 2, 2013 1:55 PM BST
For me you will know at halfway if Tiger wins or not.If he is within 3 after 2 rounds he will win,if not highly unlikely. Not a catch up course.Well thats my thinking!
Mickelson e/w always the play for me at The Masters.
Report gosmash April 2, 2013 9:54 PM BST
Stunning. If he is within 3 after 2 rounds he WILL win.  But if a stroke or 2 worse, highly unlikely !!!
Report the stunning April 2, 2013 10:20 PM BST
Exactly!!
Report Scotsirish April 3, 2013 10:54 PM BST
We' ll know after round 1 if tiger is winning.  Seem to remember from previous years the winner comes from the top 8 after the first round.
