"With equipment change a possible factor" The main factor for me

Wozza the main factor for me

He's just withdrawn, which will draw him further into the sh!t.

Withdrawn from Honda just now . Awaiting news re reason .

Nike don't have much luck with their sportsmen, do they?
By:
Some furrowed brows at Nike HQ I'd imagine
By:
If its their picks which go awol its OK , but if its the other way about whither Nike .

Didn't we have all this sort of talk and then he won the PGA in a canter
FFS he's played 3 tournaments [i think] this year and he is already being written off ![]() |
By:
he's been shyte
By:
Yeah DML but it doesn't mean he has peaked and is finished, he's 23 ffs
By:
Premier , he has played 3 times this year , pretty poorly for him , he admits he is not happy with his play , sorry , but he is the World No1 , we expect more . So do Nike .
By:
Ah true enough. It does mean that hitting a dimpled golf ball under intense pressure of sponsers may take 2nd to shagging his girlfriend. And, why not?
By:
Kelly he is 23 FFS, he has what, possibly another 20-25 years of golf at the top and frankly this thread if rather ridicolous
By:
people seem so keen to jump on his back every time he is not playing up to scratch, he was not playing well in the lead up to the PGA last year i seem to remember and then came out and pissed up in it.
give the lad a break, he has been cack so far this year, there is no denying that but he is well capable of turning it around and still having a successful year |
By:
Premier , we have seen a clatter of "brilliant" young players in the last 5 years or so , Rory being by far the best . But the subsequent track record of Kaymer , Manassero , Villegas ( until last night ) etc , has stifled praise . Just hope Rory does not join the list of those who do not fulfil their potential , thats all .
By:
The change of clubs is the main factor. Don't know why he changed to be honest. I know the money is the main factor but he way playing great and didn't need to change.
By:
Fair points by Kelly. Equally they dont really peak till 30-odd and settled in life etc etc so of course he'll come back. He has been shyte tho
By:
maybe nike want tiger to be world number 1 , again
rory had some poor efforts for a while last year before hitting form. the week before the pga he was available at 30 on hear for the pga |
By:
Donny , Rory played poorly for about 2 months May -June in 2012 . The statistically minded could verify that .
He obviously sorted the problem (local theories a plenty ) and knuckled down to sew up the No1 spot and both money lists . But he has not played well even for a sequence of a few holes in 2013 . Thats the evidence , I posted the opening thread before we knew of his withdrawal , but the story is going to run and run until he gets back to somewhere near his form of late 2012 . |
By:
Rory is the real deal. However changing clubs could turn out to be a bad decision. Never guaranteed to work. Sure he'll come good but could take a while.
By:
Don't see the clubs being a problem at all, with tournaments just about every month of the year now players need to take a break, I am sure that's what Rory has done, probably not picked a club up for a couple of months after the last tournament last year?
His swing? well that is a bit of a problem I would say, swinging it different to how he was in Abu Dhabi as they showed last night, and when intervieved he pretty much said the same himself. With regards to weather Rory peaked last year my first reaction to that is, no way! and anyway when did Tiger peak? I beleive Tiger has passed his peak at a relatively young age, and would not be supprised if the same happens to Rory. Both Tiger and Rory have had a "unnatural" upbringing, both started playing golf at the age of around 3, and then encourached \ pushed by family all the way, I just feel both will burn out earlier than other players? Tiger do'es play a fairly restricred schedule and the same for Rory is probably a good thing in prolonging a career, mind you on that assumption I guess we should all be backing Adam Scott for a record breaking number of victorys on the seniors tour. |
By:
we had this last year when he was missing cuts. The season didn't turn out to bad.
Rory is one of those guys who when he is good is very good. When he is out of an event he isn't going to grind out 72 instead of 75. |
By:
its the clubs...........plain and simple.............hes the second best golfer of last 20 years...........i would go as far as last 30 cause i rate him better than seve & faldo...........hes already won 2 majors by 8 odd shots............hes a freak.........go back to the old clubs rory

By:
Very bad management advise and greed imo. He gets to a position where he can already have whatever he wants in this world but risks it all by going for mega maga bucks with nike and change all his equipment balls etc. Why risk it? New manager has a lot to answer for but has 10% so wont worry I suspect. Chubby must be pixxing himself!
By:
all will become clear in about 20 years, until then we won't know if he has peaked. If you believe he is set for this mediocrity then lay accordingly while still value.
By:
Clubs do not maketh the golfer.Anyone around golf knows of people who always have the latest gear but never seem to improve, and the players who have out of date equipment but who are still among the best at your club.Golf equipment manufacturers love to make us believe that spending a few bob will substitute for hardwork and dedication as a way of lowering scores/getting more distance. Therefore I conclude by predicting that Rory will be flying again soon.Hold on a sec. I just remembered that last week I got the new adizero shoes and instantly gained 30 yards off the tee.Fact.
By:
its not all about the clubs he is swinging it badly. Id be interested to know how much he has practised in his time off. He just needs to get playing again regularly. Wont be long before he is back winning events.

By:
He is not swinging the club as well as last season , agreed . Who knows why ? Could be the feel of the clubs , confidence , ???? etc .
When you figure out why changing putters improves or disimproves a players score you would be halfway there to figuring out the mechanics . But the putter moves about 18inches on most putts , not much should go wrong in 18 inches , but different putters produce different results . I have had the same putter for more than 50 years , various people have suggested changing to one of the "modern " putters , but I putt better with mine than they do with their updated models . If it aint broke , dont fix it . And if your talent and equipment have got you to No 1, why change it unless your game slips ? Player and club ( and ball ) are a partnership , some people seem to think that the good golfers can play equally well with all clubs , but I doubt it . I am with Nick on the change , jury will be out for a while pending results . I have no doubt that had Rory stayed with his previous equipment he would have played better in the last 6 weeks , particularly coming from a bit of a layoff . Whether or not he adjusts remains to be seen , would hate to think that mammon got in the way of his talent . But only time will tell . And what is the incidence of sudden onset toothache ? Dentists only to respond . |
By:
bit of a sweeping statement concerning Kaymer and Manassero not fulfilling their potential!?the Italian lad's nineteen and Kaymer's changed his swing to add a draw to his game which he has said as improved his game and not just for Augusta. As for Rory, give him a break it's only three tournaments in....

Melodramatics from the usual suspect. Six weeks time we will se who has peaked.

Ach so .
Ernies comments are worth taking on board , he was after all a witness to the pain Rory was experiencing in the course of his round , and I am not sure all the pain was associated with a tooth . My comments are a statement of my observations to date this year . Hopefully Rory returns to himself in 2013 , just waiting for evidence . Any other interpretation of his form is blind faith , but blind faith is a hard sell given all that has happened in traditional circles this last 50 years . |
By:
how about that nike equipment?

Look at the opening post , big cat . Clearly states the view that Rory should be "left alone"in 2013 . Which I suggest was excellent advice , and certainly boosted my bank balance as I became a layer rather than a backer .
If you check other posts from the start of 2014 you will see my view on Rory's performances and pending rise back to the top has been consistent in a positive view , thankfully he has got back to where he belongs , World No 1 , and I suspect his stay there will be longer than it was the first time he got there . Last nights golf was brilliant theatre , full of skilful play , great viewing and a correct result based on 4 days play . 3 on the trot , 2 of them majors , no one can argue with that . Hopefully Rory will become the cash cow that Tiger once was . |

I love these - threads brought back to life, for a giggle at an opinion they had at that time, can be amusing.
sadly in this case tho, Kelly was pretty much bang on the money wasn't he? that's just no fun at all! lol ![]() was a good call as far as 2013 went - wd good luck |
