I know the 2012 Ryder Cup is barely done and dusted but i was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on potential players for both teams for the next Ryder Cup that would be considered as slightly off the radar.For example in the 2010 season when the previous Ryder Cup was played Keegan Bradley was playing on the Nationwide Tour and Nicolas Colsaerts finished that season outside the top 60 in The Race To Dubai.You could also throw in a Paul Lawrie type who has played at the top level previously and then made a come back from the wilderness.
For what it's worth,i think for next time round Bernd Wiesberger could be a bit of a dark horse for the Europeans.He's a bit inconsistent but he's a winner and knows how to play the back 9 holes of a golf tournament on a Sunday.Another one for the Europeans next time in Scotland could be Richie Ramsay.Hardly a dark horse but i think he's starting to really fulfil his potential now,it will be played in his home country and i think he'll want to emulate his fellow Aberdonian Paul Lawrie.
For the Americans i'm looking for Kyle Stanley to make an appearance.He's disappeared off the radar after a great start to the season and i think he has the potential to develop into a serious player.Also,anyone who can come back and win his first PGA Tour event after blowing a great chance the previous week with a triple bogey 8 on the 72nd hole definitely has a bit of something about them.

 Hopefully Danny Willett, who has been threatening to be the 'next big thing' for a couple of years can make it. And also Thorbjorn Oleson who is pretty calm and looks to have the right temperament. And where's Chris Wood gone to? Doesn't seem to have 'kicked on' yet. I think Cabrero-Bello looks certain to play a Ryder Cup and I belive Colsaerts has the ammo to win a Major. |

And surely at some point Patrick Cantlay for the Yanks. Top-class amateur who performed well in a couple of majors and has since turned pro. Only 20-odd too I think.

Willet is such a bad finisher of a stroke play tournament. He's tossed numerous chances away and doesn't seem to have learned how to cope on the last day

There are a few young yanks who look like they could make the step up.
Luke Guthrie is top of the web.com tour after 7 events having turned pro this summer, he also has a top 5 on tour. Ben Kohles won his first two web.com events after turning pro this summer. Russell Henley won this week. Cantlay had a good run as an amateur including that 60. Bud Cauley and John Huh have made good starts to their PGA careers. Obviously some will fall by the way side but the kids seem to be getting better all the time. Come 2014 Stricker and Furyk will probably struggle to make the US team. Mickleson and Kuchar may also. In europe Manassero will hopeful make the step up along with one or two other talented youngsters |

Anyone would have thought seve didn't jet off to the states in his day. Nowadays the only option if you want to play at the top level is to go and compete stateside. Its light years ahead of the rest. |

For the USA Ryan Moore and Robert Garrigus already have the ability to make the US team.
For Europe, Harrington probably our best player not to make it, and could easily recapture a spot. Further down the rankings Anders Hansen and David Lynn are obvious contenders for next time ( if 5/1 or better is offered, I'd like some ) - they've got a little improvement to make but not much. What's a little troubling for us is that some European pros like Davis, Owen, Jacobson, Petterson and Christian spend so much time on the US tour and don't appear to be getting anywhere ( except rich of course, smiles ) and unlikely to go after the easier world ranking points and ryder cup points available in events like the Volvo Matchplay and Wentworth. They plan their seasons around not qualifying it seems, so best avoided from a betting viewpoint. |

He will be 39 when the next Ryder cup comes around but i believe Bo Van Pelt has a real shout of being on the next USA Team. Van Pelt for me is a player that has without doubt underachieved but the potential is there and can see his career going in a similar direction to that of Kenny Perry.
I was a little suprised not to see him picked for this years Ryder Cup and although i don't think he would have changed the result he would definitely add a dimension to the US team really only seen by Dufner last week, especially in foursomes. You can almost guarentee players like Phil, Bubba, Dustin, Keegan and Tiger will be on the team and because of that their is no doubt that the European captain will set the course up for a premium on accuracy and this is where Van Pelt could be a real asset with his solid ball striking and improving putting. If Van Pelt can continue his progress i believe he will play his way onto the team rather than needing a pick and can see him winning 2/3 events before the next Ryder Cup. Another one for the US would be Luke Guthrie, who i can see has already been mentioned by MW. This guy looks the real deal and will win majors and play in many Ryder Cups in the future. |

Masch - I've followed Van Pelt quite a bit this year having seen all the stats etc and how consistent and solid a ball striker he is. But he reminds me of a disingenuous horse - has the talent to win but no real will to get it done. A bit like Tidal Bay. I remember when he was in the last group of the USPGA and he almost seemed just happy to have made it that far, like he was in awe of McIlroy or something.
That's the one and only reason he hasn't won more than one PGA Tour event and none for three years IMO. But I wouldn't be surprised if he did what Tidal Bay did and win a mid level event by ten lengths. That's not to say he won't make the 2014 team, that's just my thoughts on what he's done this year. I followed him round Lytham this year (having backed him - again) and he seemed like one of the better Americans so I do hope he starts to convert. |

fivebagken, couldn't agree more with you on how Van Pelt's career has gone to date and he will never have the ar$e to win a major but like you said he could win a regular PGA tour event by 4/5 shots, exactly like he did in Malaysia last year when he won by 6 shooting 64 in the final round from the front.
He also stood toe to toe with tiger for 15 holes at Congessional this year before he blew up taking 6 on the par 5 after only having a wood to the green from the fairway and then duly went on to bogey the last 2. I really see him having a similar career to Perry in where he will win 5/6 times in his 40's, he's to good a player not too and the Ryder cup is made for a player like him. |

bit harsh on Garrigus. Yes he blew that event but he did come back to win a few months later.
He has steadily improved, he hits it miles. If he could improve his putting he could become a top player. |
