I've been to the British Open a couple of times, never a problem getting tickets, you just turn up and pay on the gate. I remember looking at the US Open earlier this year and it was a sell-out. Same thing with this week's PGA, just checked on their website and Fri Sat & Sun are all sold out.
Capacity must be similar surely, so why do more people turn out for the American majors than the British one? More interest in golf stateside?

Give it to Portrush and it will sell out in weeks. Coverage on the beeb is so good, might be a factor, but is strange alright why you can pay at gate everyday?.
Probably because there is no such tournament as The British Open.

The Open is not an all ticket affair like the other Opens. The irish Open sold out because there was a limit on tickets. The Open cannot and never has sold out because everyone that turns up and buys a ticket will get in. There was never a limit put on number of "Patrons".
