Mahan and Schwartzel for me. This is a course that will fit their game - advantage to those good around the green. As for Els is he still coming here (I live about 45 minutes from the course)? I remember in his speech after winning the Open he said "I'm scheduled to be in Canada next week but I think I'll blow that off."

They switch the Canadian Open around every year. Here's a quick synopsis of the courses they use the most
Glen Abbey (Oakville, Ontario - about 20 minutes west of Toronto). Built by Jack Nicklaus and designed to allow for good viewing by spectators. Fairly easy course for long hitters. Little rough, wide fairways although the greens can be tricky. Course is long though. Depending on wind, winning score is usually between -10 and -20.
Royal Montreal (Ile Bizard, Quebec - about 25 minutes north of Montreal). Very old course (almost 150 years which of course is a baby compared to the Scottish courses ) Fairly long and greens can be difficult but today's hitters don't have much difficulty with it. Wide fairways and water really only comes into play on 2 holes. Winning scores are fairly similar to Glen Abbey.
Glen Abbey (Markham, Ontario - just North of Toronto). Designed by Jack Nicklaus about 30 years ago. Was supposed to be a huge challenge to the pros but it so far hasn't turned out too tough. They added a lot of rough and water comes into play on most holes. I've played it twice and shot 110 and 112 and I usually shoot in the low 90s on municipal courses so obviously it hasn't been that challenging. They played the Open there twice, once on the south course and once on the north and the winning score was -16 both times and winds were pretty high which says a lot.
Hamilton Golf and Country Club (Ancaster, Ontario - just west of Hamilton about 45 minutes from Toronto). Site of this year's event. Not a terribly long course but a lot of bunkers and tough greens makes the short game a premium. Apparently the course they will be playing has been redesigned so that 5 of the holes are even more narrow giving the advantage to accuracy. Winning scores range from -8 to -14 depending on the weather. Here's a link to the course so you can see the scorecard and pictures of each hole: www.hgcc.ca
Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club (located in Vancouver, BC). Toughest course on the Open schedule by far. Short course but fairways are all very narrow and it seems trees and deep rough come into play on every hole. Also greens are all tough. For golfers who aren't accurate with their tee shots they can forget about a good score. A short but accurate hitter will always have an advantage.
St. George's Golf and Country Club in Toronto was played 2 years ago but after the logistic headaches I doubt they'll go back there. That was the year that Petterson won the tournament after finishing on the cut line 10 shots back.

Five against the field, hope to have a runner or two.
Piercy - as noted above running into form and has been quite impressive all season when making the cut. Noh - been backing all season, close to breakthrough though this week maybe a little to short to play to his strengths. Summerhays - Couple of nice finishes recently and stats that look like they will fit the course. Hearn - Token Canadian who finished twentieth last time held here and has been playing steadily of late. Horschel - third last week and accuracy very solid which looks likely to be required on the coure.
GL with yours.

4th in accuracy / 11th in G.I.R and 3rd in putting.
Already finished 1st / T2 and T5 this season.
And sounds like the course should suit.

A few thoughts on the RBC Canadian Open where I have only put up one tip in Chris Kirk although personally I have backed a few others. I am not sure why Chris Kirk is a three figure price this week as he often seems to show his best form on traditional par 70 courses. He defended his first PGA title at Annandale last week and did it very well finishing 10th and now he has that off his back I expect him to progress further and gain more wins - 0.3 ew 100/1. I backed Vijay Singh at 66/1 ew when prices first came out as he has a good record here in 03 and 06 and sneaked into the top ten at the Open last week but 50/1 is borderline. I do think Scott Brown is a big price on Betfair and have backed him 270/60/28 for the win/5/10 as he seems to have a new lease of life since becoming a Dad and finishing 7th and 5th in his last two starts. As a rank outsider I have also backed Ontarian Matt McQuillan 800/160/80 as he sprang to life last year when 3rd at the John Deere and followed that with a 6th and a 7th - a home game may reinvigorate him.

TMM you've just cost me a ton. Backed Kirk so many times.(Apart from when he won at 33/1.)
Was going to leave him this week but would be gutted if he lands another and i'm not on.
Think he'll eventually become a major player on tour.
Fingers crossed for the Captain.

Accuracy and shotmaking look the order of the day so bar the front 3 most of the next 20 or so in the betting either are not great at keeping it in play or/and GIR so can see quite a few big priced players around the leaderboard.
Roberto Castro @ 100 - rookie looks ready to make the breakthrough and course looks ideal.
Chez Reavie @ 210 - not everyone's cup of tea but former winner (elseswhere) and starting to hit a bit of form and course should also suit.
A couple of rookies who look to have found their feet on the tour and look massive prices on current form and hopefully trade much shorter at some point:
Scott Brown @ 300+ - 7th and 5th his last 2 tournaments. (short as 66s at Ladcrooks and Billies).
Billy Hurley III @ 400+ - 4th and 8th two of his last 3 tournaments.

If the course softens as is expected this afternoon I have a hunch Schwartzel will make a big move this afternoon. That said, I've been wrong on every prediction with this tournament so far.

Unfortunately Schwartzel can't make a putt t save his life today. I'm done with this tournament. Have my losers on Schwartzel, Mahan and Kuchar and will hope for a Carl Petterson like move from them early tomorrow. Schwartzel will be over par today on the easy 9.

Think the -10's have got too much to do.Will probably need a 62 or 3 for a play off. Stating the obvious but see the winner coming from the final pairing.Enjoy playing with each other and on a Sunday with a few nerves jangling that can sometimes be a deciding factor. At the prices I'd rather be on McGirt. Good luck with your trading. Dunlop.

Haven't really played on this. Just for an interest tonight, trying to decide who offers the best value from a trading point of view between Stallings and Kirk. No real opinion as to who is likely to win. Not much interest either the way my personal life is.
