Aliss and Ken Brown are pure class in comparison to Murray and Critchley, 2 of the most sycophant bores in sports commentary.
Grady, thought seems not to recognise half the players in the field. Much prefer the add free golf if im being honest. |

lay off the bbc team, they are untouchable, stick your sky up your adverts....
|
|
By:
when sky take over we will have to listen to that psycophant Butch Harmon who cant say anything against anybody plus endless mind numbing commercial breaks every two shots.
|
|
By:
I thought BBC were good today. Lay off them. You should try watching cycling on ITV4 where there is a break every 7 minutes and you miss everything.

allis is the biggest idiot ever
bbc need to axe this senile buffoon asap |
|
By:
just can't listen to it
have the radio on instead |

Aliss is ok for the first day or so, then his routine gets very tiresome. It is the same bollocks every year.
Enjoy all Kens input. |
|
By:
At least Brown talks quicker than he used to play...
Makes me laugh whe Alliss goes on about slow play today.. Ken Brown used to take an eon over a 6ft putt.. |
|
By:
Was he any good Guiness?
|
|
By:
Yep was a fair player, few tour wins, won in America once i think, but as i said slow as fooook..
Used to use a putter as small as Robert Garrigus's.. |
|
By:
Cheers.
I like his pieces where he mooches around on some deadly fast green, drops the ball and it rolls about 20 yards all over the place. |
|

Talking of Alliss, fawwon, he used to get unmerciful stick off the tour pros years ago, Nick Dildo in particular wasn't happy with him, most of them said he was too hard on them. And then of course there was that tirade from 'he who shall not be named' from the RP. That was about 10 years ago, plenty of bad feeling against Alliss, but lots of respect in other quarters. I've never met the man, but i've always liked him, even going back to when he was understudy to the great Henry Longhurst.
And i like Brown on the TV as well.. |

Been watching this on ESPN who are taking BBC pictures...I tuned in just as Tony Jacklin and Allis where talking about the lack of trains going past the course these days compared to back in the good old days!
Jacklin sounded rough! |
|
By:
Oh, and I now know Jacklin won in 69 at Lytham

I too have a lot total respect for Alliss, who remains both witty & perspicacious. There has been a lot of talk this week about Jacklin in 1969 being the 1st British player to win since Max Faulkner 1951. For what it's worth, Peter Alliss finished top 10 that year with a closing 67. So perhaps he may know a few things about the game. And as for Henry Longhurst, his commentating "one liners" remain legendary, before mentioning any of his wonderfully absorbing essays on golf and more. |
|
By:
I could listen to Alliss all day. Head and shoulders above the rest.
He did a cracking speech when he was inducted into the world golf hall of fame. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_HSJ8niuKE&feature=related |

Terribly boring commentators. Could cure insomnia. Coverage of US events is dire but their comms are top notch. Jim Nantz the consumate pro, Faldo the special comments and the others sort the comedy. Get Martin Tyler in the booth, I don't care if he doesn't know what a golf club is, he is England's rose when talking commentary - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYMDkx1qHkk
Stuff of legend. |
|
By:
Enjoy him while we have him - for me, he is in a class of his own .....
As far as his playing ability is concerned he was excellent from tee to green but struggled on the greens ..... |
|
By:
Thanks MightyWhites
Very funny speech. I still laugh at his observations on Tiger spitting and some miserable looking kid on a boat from years back. |
|
By:
A class act... he was 14lbs weight when he was born..the biggest baby born for many years in europe...when asked about this he said not a bad weight for a turkey as well.

You'll miss him when he's gone.

Mighty whites, thanks for that.
How can you not like the man after watching that. Comparing Alliss to the likes of Murray is an insult to the great man. |
