i put a couple of quid on michael thompson at 960/1. then just laid it off when he had his great last round, trouble is i stood to win 2000 and ended up with 60 cos of the way i did it. what should i have done, back the other contenders?

He never got lower than 20 that I saw before I went to bed about 2.00, although he might have done briefly somewhere on 18, and I cant imagine he would have got much lower than that as someone was always at least level and most of the time Furyk or Webb still had a shot on him.
Difficult to green out too well unless the price gets a lot lower. |

13`s ??? im sure after webb`s approach on 18 + furyk was in trouble on 16 same time ????

thanks for your reply, so in effect i didnt do much wrong as i laid most off at 40s, first time having a go at this, so happy with the return for a measly 2 quid. if thompson had won i would have been devastated as i'd totally laid him by the end. live and learn

He got down to 8/9/10 when he had his birdie putt on 17 once he missed he drifted out to 50/60/70. Then he was backed in again as low as 10 when Simpson was in trouble on 18 - that's when I laid quite a big chunk back
 but would have been  had he won! |

so would you try to lay as low as possible but always keep a nice chunk back in case the impossible happens?

If you are going to lay back you have to make a decision beforehand that that is what you are going to do - decide how much you want to lay back and roughly what price and stick to it

I had a similar problem. I backed John Peterson at 1000 to win 300,000. I got quadruple (1200) my stake back at 200's after round 3, leaving me winning over about 60k. I then laid another 1000 at an average price of 15 in running when he had a 7 footer on the 15th, leaving me with about 45k profit in case he got into a play-off. As it was, he missed the put and then took 6. Anyway, still got 2200 back for my initial 300.
Otherwise, it was a bit of a nightmare event for me - only won 1580, whereas Woods and Toms were both 6k winners for me after round 2. |
