Who would it be?

Mickelson and Tiger are on the slow slide of decline.

Westwood simply doesn't win as much as he should.

I'd be tempted to go for one of the Yanks - Rickie Fowler maybe.

Thoughts?

Having missed Duffner, Colsaerts and Aguilar at nice prices when they won their maiden, it is my duty to say Callum McCauley who will win on Tour at a silly price.

Would've been Bubba before he won the Masters. I'll say... Adam Scott or Dusty.

how would the situation arise that you would have to back one golfer every week for the next 5 years?
Report donny osmond May 26, 2012 8:19 PM BST
backing one every time he (she) played over the next 5 years, to make a profit i reckon you need

somebody a bit erratic, as in not consistant

a good putter... (a big hitter in usa )

a past history of winning at some level

somebody not on elliott/chapman/or palmers love list

not the darling of the betfair forum

plays easy course events as well as tough venues

and a bit if luck getting on in winning weeks

CoolCool

Jonathan Byrd a streaky player(which allows for big prices)but who knows how to close out a tournament when up there.Happy.Saying that for the first time in his career he's just had 5 top 12s in a rowCrazy
Cameron Tringale who for me will have a Gary Woodland season and will then kick on through the rankings.

Victor Dubuisson and Romain Wattel, i have given up on Bo Van Pelt for the moment at least until he starts being a 50/1 shot again. The 2 French guys will win someday, i just hope it is at a 3 figure price. There is another one i am about to start following called Andy Sullivan, you heard it here first.

Gary woodland and Denno's lad who will win at stupid odds soon

Damn that Tiger !!!!!!!!!!  got a return on the place and greened up a little as Bo hit 1.6 ,but not the big return i was hoping for , think the 16th hole killed him ,not giving up hope just yet

Keegan Bradley for me.

steady player and seems to be up there whenever he plays
Report d13phe July 3, 2012 8:57 AM BST
I also think when that nutter Spencer Levin learns how to win he could be dangerous
Report kincsem July 4, 2012 9:38 PM BST
I agree with Keegan Bradley.  He's big, he's young, he has the game, just needs to settle down playing close to his best.
And great odds for the Open.
Report poorestpunter July 5, 2012 10:33 AM BST
O'Hair or Mark Wilson for me.

Consistent winners, usually from nowhere.  I do back one of them most weeks and in the past year I've had O'Hair up in Canada (can't remember the odds now, well over 100 - 140?) and Wilson up twice, can't remember the phoenix price, but I think he was 190 odd for the Bob Hope back in Jan.
Report Kelly July 5, 2012 12:12 PM BST
Having started another thread about the consistency of players on tour , looked back over this thread which is somewhat similar reference getting a run for your money .  The postings on here , and subsequent results ( benefit of hindsight ) , indicate to me how difficult it is to be getting something like a run for your money regularly .

Unfortunate state of affairs , possibly explains why the golf markets are sluggish , punters like winners , are prepared to take short prices if they are semi confident , but if its hit or miss it becomes recreational punting rather than serious .

Tiger was the last player who put together a  truly satisfactory win / run ratio .  Will there be anyone subsequently ?
Report donny osmond July 5, 2012 12:22 PM BST
i'd think you want an inconsistent player for this thread if you want a long term profit

if you start at 500/1 each week, one win every 15 years should show a nice profit
