Is Augusta too big a challenge for his game ?

Seems crazy the all time highest prize money winner on European Tour can't seem to do it in a Major.

Personally I don' think the Masters is Lee's best chance, but at 22 worth a punt ?

just done exactly the same purely on price

far too big.
Report Denman The Destroyer • April 4, 2012 4:48 PM BST
As good a chance as anyone.
Report guinness2dear • April 4, 2012 5:45 PM BST
He would be better off letting Billy putt for him.

Zero chance.
Report Ski-Wiz • April 4, 2012 5:50 PM BST
zero chance
Report maggot • April 4, 2012 5:59 PM BST
To say that he has zero chance, is just ridiculous. 11th last year, 2nd the year before that. He may not have the best short game out there, but tee to green, he is one of the best ever. Having said that, I have not backed him.
Report kincsem • April 4, 2012 7:06 PM BST
He has the physical game.  No reason why he can not shoot low.
Report JimJo • April 4, 2012 7:08 PM BST
Looks like he has been doing some work in gym in the winter also big season for Westwood
Report NonShy.. • April 4, 2012 7:28 PM BST
what does he has the 'physical game' mean?

not good enough with the old chipper and putting lets him down
Report alfee • April 4, 2012 7:33 PM BST
always been a short priced mug in my book, na bottle !

^^^ colin montgomery fan?
Report kincsem • April 4, 2012 8:29 PM BST
'physical game'

He hits it a good distance, good at greens in regulation, possibly not as good at the delicate skills (scrambling and putting), or able to plot his way around the course, and close it out.  Just my opinion.
hth.

Not got the finesse to win round here and for that reason his long game creaks under pressure. No Chance of winning at all. Should be 100/1
Report NonShy.. • April 4, 2012 8:32 PM BST
thanks kin

i agree just wouldnt have used that phrase
Report dashero • April 4, 2012 8:39 PM BST
Slim to none for Lee John, hasn't got what it takes to win there, but you can guarantee he will seethe at whoever else wins it, especially if it's Rory...

If you fancy a long shot why not go the whole way...Simon Dyson at 500-1

ludicrous to say westwood"cannot win" id agree this isnt his best chance as  its more ependant on chipping/putting obviously not weetwoods strong suit, on the flip side he will have to chip less often than most as he WILL  hit the ball the straightest and be near the GIR stats during the four days. hes a class act, he may never win a major theres only 4 a year fteall, as for his bottle i woudnt worry on that score hes won plenty enough times.im not saying hes a massive price but how big a price can you expect for one of the best players in the world , hes almost sure to be in contention .hes one of many with a real decent and obvious chance.as for the guy who thinks mahan should be  a third of the price of westwood , he needs to get in the real world , mahan isnt a serious winner,he rarely gets the job done and i think is a daft price at 33s and actually far to close to westwood in the betting.if westwooids a 22/1 chance(pprobably about right) then sonmeone with mahans winnig record should be nearrer to 100.then again 100s chances win and he may be the one.
Report khpunter • April 4, 2012 10:02 PM BST
Putting isn't good enough usually but if the rain has affected the greens like the say he has a decent chance.
Report petethepunter • April 4, 2012 11:20 PM BST
If it rained from now until Sunday he still wouldn't win. Has no chance of ever winning here. Has'nt got the B****. Donald wont either and neither will Rose. I'd go with McDowell before any of these, at least he has a bit of bottle and at 2-3 times the price a better bet.
Report alfee • April 4, 2012 11:23 PM BST
spot on pete .

talking shiite peter

utter shiite

westwood has won the ryder cup 5 times, european tour winner 20+

and i always find it rich people sit on a forum saying "he hasn't got the balls"

2Dear and the cretins out in force for the majors.

To dismiss Westwood so arrogantly is ridiculous. HE hasn't won a major yet. He isn't the finest putter or chipper in the world. His resolution under pressure in the majors is questionable.

However, on ball striking alone if he has a good week with the flat stick (& all top pros are capable of running hot) then he has a very good chance.

Lets not be silly and dismiss one of the worlds top players as a non hoper as you look fools.
Report Aussie Driver • April 5, 2012 1:08 AM BST
My biggest red going in

There is no doubt the prospect of rain is of assistance to him, but Augusta is certainly not a track which siuts his strengths in comparison to others, and his weaknesses are definately scrutinised around this track.

The most obvious lay in the field imo at given prices
Report bananaoasis • April 5, 2012 8:21 AM BST
Lee came close in 10 when but for an amazing few shots by Phil he would of done it, he has been working hard enough for him in the off season and he has the iron game for here, especially as it has rained and rained and rained... birdie fest and Lee is right in their with a shot.

i have backed him at 22s with a view to laying off if/when he trades lower

im not personally sure if he can win it but he often gets himself into a position to
Report Ampleforth • April 5, 2012 11:51 AM BST
Lee has been down playing his chances this week, his form isnt great, the course will find him out, with every major that passes the pressure to win one increases.
He won't ever win one in my opinion, another Monty, tries to convince himself and others that being  a big fish in a little pond makes a good career.   I bet deep inside he was well cheesed off when Clarke romped home in the Open.
Report jermaine defonebox • April 5, 2012 11:53 AM BST
He's always somewhere near the top. Fitness worries me
Westy  Donald Rose  all must give a good run  for your money IMO espesh if it's dodgy weather

I keep coming back to Westwood despite originally ruling him out. Think the recent rain plays into his hands as well, making driving a crucial skill, and lessening the demons in the greens.

I have had a decent bet on, expect to be able to trade it at some stage and have a funny feeling he could go all the way.
Report sickoflayinwinners • April 5, 2012 8:40 PM BST
at the moment hes doing a fair impression of someone who has a fair chance of winning.i havent backed him  as ithink hec was probably about the right price(not a bargain) buti have to agree it was ludicrous to say he has zero chance.as i said i havent backed him so im not pocket talking.as for him not having the bottle to win thats the daftest comment of the lot.

Good start. If ever Westwood was to win a Masters these are the conditions to do it in.
