bob, a year or two ago we were still betting on a regular pgatour event in Mexico or Puerto Rico at least 20 minutes after it had finished and the odds were all over the place.
  Betfair didn't suspend until someone said on the forum that there were a picture of the winner holding the throphy on the tournaments home page.

I backed Chez Reavie with C orals, will I get my stake back? Would they have paid out if I backed Harrington?

Just recieved a call back from c orals as I was writing this and they have said they are not sure as to what they are going to do yet.....

Dazmacccc I lost a pittance on it but it's the principle of the thing. If BF have taken a stane they won't offer a market on "nonsense", then abide by that decision. Hell I remember when BF threatened F1 to stop offering odds on it when Barichello pulled over on the last corner to let Schumacher win. I understand uour point but the company has to protect bettors against these farces.

its officially a tie, says so on news article of main masters homepage.

classic, same thing happens every year on here with people crying after kids take putts etc. A 2 minute google search will tell you that happens.

What if you had bet on Webb Simpson or Jerry Pate? Would they have pid out on these? Each way? Surely C orals have to void this, its the only fair thing to do imo.

I guess the key is to only bet on players that don't have kids or aren't immature, supersticious fools. Better yet I'll play bingo or the lottery - it takes more skill.

obviously its a huge joke, declaring a winner in an event where half of the field didnt finish their rounds! the masters people need a result for their records and tradition etc. as there no way of finishing the contest with people out at 7am tomorrow

I don't think it'll be voided. All bets stand run or not. I'd say personally that it'll be dead heated.

I think for a change that BF will just do the descent thing and Void. Sky were just not on the ball. Basically were taking no interest in the event whatsoever.

If it was clear cut BF would have settled by now.

I,d no bet in this but surely if someone only played a hole or two how can they be expected to win the competition,hence if you bet one of them to win you can,t win which is one of the fundamental basis of gambling.Think it should be voided.

If the event had allowed one player to hole his birdie put and then rained off then the meaning of all bets stand run or not becomes meaningless. Interesting to see what decision they come to

Well my bet was just £4 on Simpson @34.0  Layed for £20 @ 3.25. Good for me as a fun bet but d believe it will just be voided.

I was on Scott at 46. Had I known he was going to throw it on purpose I would have donated my 20 bucks to the Salvation Army instead.

i backed 3 players not 1 went out and played. i should get my money back as if a horse does not go in the stalls (does not start) you get refunded whats the difference?

I had no bet on this, and just got in from my footy and am reading this fred through. Its so funny reading all these people crying after losing bets on the par 3 tournament. Its the same every year. They let their kids take putts, hit balls into the water and many try not to win on purpose.

The only questions I have are; if you didnt know what the par 3 tourney is like what the hell are you doing betting on it?

And if you have done any sort of serious dough without even finding out what the Betfair rules are and what the history of the par 3 comp is, then you are probably fairly used to losing money, so the sting wont last long.

i agree it is a fun event but having a bet and them not even starting is not rite. if they go out n lose on purpose that is fine it is all fun. Not getting a run for your money is wrong should be a refund. What about people who backed webb simpson he had every chance with 2 to play

@Marychain shut up how bout you go bet $100 on tiger to win the masters not the par 3 he doesnt tee off and you don't get your money back shut up it doesnt matter if its a fun event or not if the player doesnt get to play you shouldnt have to pay smarten up

1. I wouldnt bet anything like that much on an event that is famous for being a total lottery, a joke and a farce. The only time I have ever bet on this was a few years ago when Tim Clark won, and that was only £5. I would suggest that if you cant wait 24 hours for a proper event to have a serious bet on then you may have a problem.

2. If I did decide a bet on such an event, when it clearly says in the rules "All bets stand, run or not", I certainly wouldnt whine when I did my dough.

Hopefully Betfair have learnt a lesson as bookmakers have done over the years - do not run a book on a novelty event where no real rules are in place - anyone betting in any event should know what rules they are betting under - if they don't then they simply should not be betting.

Muppet Moans. Real bookies would never offer bets on this for 2 reasons:
1-they wouldn't want to deal with the BS afterwards of a contest they know is a joke and
2-the money comes out of their own pockets if someone knew that certain golfers were going to tank it on purpose.

Betfair could care less. As far as they're concerned they made a few quid on commission offering this event and if a bunch of naive bettors lost their money on it because they suspected it was legit then so what? It's a win for Betfair but real bookies would be concerned about losing customer respect and loyalty.

yeah so am i! thought reavie was value tho at 80/1 especially for the each way part, usually a player with great wedge game and putter that wins, and usually a short hitter (they tend to be much more accurate with their distance control) like donald, tim clark etc..

If for some reason I was obligated to offer this on BF here's what I would do.

"Player to record the fewest shots in a 9 hole round." That would mean players who tank it like Scott or others who let their kids putt can still win it as long as the total shots by the player or their appointed minion is less than others. I would also refund bets on any golfer who doesn't tee off.

In a way it's no different than the F1 rule of fastest qualifier instead of pole position.

Betfair can't refund bets on some players, it wouldn't be fair to layers.
  It's either all bets stand run or not - or void the whole market.

There is a huge difference in people losing money because it's a fun event and people losing because the weather stopped their selections from playing in the comp.
Marychain says it's the same every year ,I don't recall it being abandoned before.

There was buttons matched on the event.It would not kill BF to refund punters who backed players who did not complete the 9 holes.
Did all the books payout on the tie ?

I knew full well that this was a fun event, and players playing trick shots, or letting their kids putt is one thing, but when they haven't competed the round, or haven't even played a shot, that's surely a completely different matter.
That being said, I only put a couple of pound on. I'd just like it back so I can stick it on Bubba Watson to win :D

I agree marychain ,those that did money on players deliberately not trying to win deserve to lose but those who did not get a run should be refunded.

Was and always will be fraught with uncertainty. The "ALL BETS STAND" rule is a full proof safe guard for Betfair.

Just think the page should flash up a big "WARNING" sign as well. I got lucky (although my other £2 punts never left the clubhouse) but there still seems something morally wrong about the whole thing.

I remember Betfair refunding bets on that Davydenko fiasco a few years back in Poland when it was clear he purposely lost that tennis match but I don't think they've ever given back players money for anything other than that. I think it's fair to say that Betfair isn't worried about losing the respect of bettors because it's still the best betting option around. As long as they get their commission they're happy to settle any bet as per the "decision of the scorer" whoever that is.

At least you will know never to get involved in this nonsense again.
