why on earth do the racing post employ steve palmer? his golf tips are so crap. again this wk 8 bets advised on the accenture match play and all losers either in the 1st or 2nd round. If you follow him your sure to end up in the poor house...

why would u back someone elses tips?
Report CrowsEye February 24, 2012 5:24 PM GMT
I appreciate people backing selections of proven profitable tipsters, it's just something I can't do personally, or at least very rarely. I like to go on my own opinion.
Report donny osmond February 24, 2012 5:32 PM GMT
£700 a year for them .....
Report CrowsEye February 24, 2012 5:36 PM GMT
Well if it was just the golf tips, it's only one RP per week. Even then, people post them up on here.

It's usually not so profitable anyway due to certain bookies slashing the odds as soon as it's published.
Report donny osmond February 24, 2012 5:41 PM GMT
odds slashed before its published is the killer

if he can turn a profit on wednesday prices he is going great guns
Report ReimerpYsatnaf February 24, 2012 6:42 PM GMT
Did Steve Palmer not turn a big profit on his golf tips in the RP last year?? I thought he'd tipped up 2 winners as well the first few weeks of this year too
Report the muppet moans February 24, 2012 6:59 PM GMT
In all fairness to Steve he has a good record from a difficult position - picking up on his WGC Matchplay selections is not fair - most tipsters wouldn't bother with it as it really is a lottery and you are on a hiding to nothing but Palmer has no real option but to post something.
Report donny osmond February 24, 2012 7:04 PM GMT
i think he did have a great year last year, and a decent start to this

if he could post monday prices , or the prices he is able to get
then surely he'd make more than wednesday prices allow

most( if not all) of his profits have been from the euro tour, iirc

thanks guys, i don,t actually follow steve palmer i look at his tips every wednesday and being a sad git i have kept his tips since last october 2011 to see if these guys are any good. in this period he has tipped 1 winner big phil to win the recent a"t at pebble beach... thats one out of 17 events. i,m not talking about backing players after 2 rounds which i know he has had some success according to his sunday piece in the racing post. its the tips he has given on wednesdays...
Report donny osmond February 24, 2012 7:20 PM GMT
you must have missed a few weeks cin kid, his tips are sometimes on the other
s palmer thread

What are you talking about Cinn Kid?

1: he didn't tip up Phil at pebble beach pre tourney ( he did tip him after the 3rd round on the website)

2: Off the top of my head he's tipped 3 winners this year (Grace twice and Oost)

Plenty worse tipsters around.
Report cincinnati kid February 25, 2012 8:34 AM GMT
thanks valleyparade, i stand corrected on the O0st, but the grace and oost again where not mentioned in his weds tips in the racing post, i,m not talking about other blogs or threads.
again tips on this wks pga event in mexico 4 tips, none in top 20 after 2 rds.....

ck ...what a load of dross you speak.

Steve Palmer didn't win journalist of the year on the bounce for nothing.

Anyone with an ounce of savey will know his pieces are well informed, entertaining and a great read.

If you don't like it don't read it.

btw ...i admire your honesty, agreed, you are 'one sad git'

GOOD LUCK.

Kildimo

Journalist of the year,well informed,entertaining & a great read.

I'd doubt Steve Palmer would agree with the above let alone anyone else.
Report DONEMYLOT February 25, 2012 11:47 AM GMT
Kildimo is bang on

A journo's job is to get you to read an interesting, sometimes amusing (not vital as anyone who has read my stuff will confirm), and thought provoking piece. It may lead you to think about your own bets in a different way, may give you reasons to oppose someone you had as a 50/50 bet, or whatever.

If you just want tips they may as well just write a list

1. name/ price
2. name/price
3. name/price
Report donny osmond February 25, 2012 12:15 PM GMT
you were unlucky with price this week dml

any idea why he pulled out
Report DONEMYLOT February 25, 2012 12:22 PM GMT

Steve is a good tipster based on his Wednesday articles but a poor punter based on his Sunday articles.

He's tipped Grace (for both wins) and Oosthuizen in the Wednesday column this year, Im looking at the online version of the RP from those dates and I seriously need to see an optician if 'they were not mentioned.' Crazy

The guy gets crucified constantly from certain quarters for no reason whatsoever. He gets paid to put his opinion out there and never claims it to be the guaranteed answer like some on here would have you believe. He posted a very good winning year last year, even more impressive when you consider he can't just have a week off and avoid putting up selections if he wants to keep his job. He writes some very entertaining stuff to boot, and seems like a genuinely good egg from what I've read on Twitter (always replying to punters etc).
Report yorkshirela February 25, 2012 11:24 PM GMT
Journalist of the year!!!. Not hard to do in the racing post. How many other sports papers are there now to compete against. Why don't we call it the Sepp Blatter award for Journalism or even the president Mugabe award(for anyone who doesn't understand that one, they where the only candidates who you could vote for on the ballot papers).I do buy the Racing post on Wednesdays and wouldn't back anything he printed. His staking plan is 15 points a week now per tourny(42 alone this week),and he still couldn't tip up a dustbin.
Report SuperFrothy February 25, 2012 11:27 PM GMT
I still don't get what all the hate is about? Surely if his tips are cack and loads of mug punters back them, it's a license to print money laying his tips on here? Its win/win whether you think he's good or bad....
Report yorkshirela February 25, 2012 11:32 PM GMT
Just read the article about not slating Palmer for his WGC bets,as it's a lottery.Even in Weds paper he said "not to stake the family silver on it....yet he advises to stake 27 points on it???.
One thing i'm not sure of and i've never read in his columns, how much money is a point to him?.
Report donny osmond February 25, 2012 11:36 PM GMT

Seems a top man to me, winning at golf is not an easy game ffs
Report Ell February 28, 2012 5:38 PM GMT
Palmer's tips are quite reasonable and you'd certainly have a chance if you were backing them blindly.

The problem is that the RP hype him up as some kind of God.

Also you'll have difficulty backing at the odds as these are usually long gone with the bookies and best prices on here have gone on Tuesday before the RP has even been printed.
Report donny osmond February 28, 2012 6:18 PM GMT
hope they put them on the other thread this week ...
