This is a wide open market IMO and 7/1 looks pretty good to me. He is currently in 2nd place on the ML as he has finished 1st and 2nd in his last 2 starts. There is a small amount available at 8 and a a bit more at 7s. Could be a good back to lay.

What are peoples thoughts?

7/1 seems more than fair, 5/1 with Paddy Power. He would have to be considered favourite at this stage and if he wins the masters he would drop to 6/4 or 2/1.

looks good. will have to wait a little while to trade, but will surely trade lower soon. (unless woods wins matchplay)

Think its a terrible value bet myself.

He usually starts the year well but I agree this year has been great for him money wise. However he won the Shell tournament last year prior to the Masters getting US$1m and yet he still finished 12th in the money list around US$3m behind Donald and Simpson

His focus is on majors , particularly Augusta. I don't see why any of the younger guys like Donald, Simpson, Haas and Dustin Johnson shouldn't beat him again as they did last year. Their best years are ahead of them unlike Mickelson.Keegan Bradley could also be one on the up and up

Not saying ofc any of the above are better than Phil, just more motivated for the run of the mill tour events and hungrier for success week in week out.

I missed the back to lay element of your post. Given he's not in the matchplay I'm unsure its value either but may work out well if you rae thinking of tradinig out say after Augusta

not for me. Liquidity is poor in these markets,

Phil usually does well on the west coast but there is a long way to go.

The majors and WGC events will play a big part in the eventual winner of the money list.

Another no from me, he opts out of too many tournaments in addition to the other points made. And you really don't want to make this bet now, seeing as he's at 7s now and is skipping a big money tournament this week, totally the wrong time to make this bet. Can't be any lower next week and quite possibly higher, and if say, Webb was to win here then you're in all sorts, as he is consistent and plays a lot.

I take your point that he isn't playing this week, but over the next month he is scheduled to play:

WGC Cadillac (won 2009)
Arnold Palmer Championship
Shell Huston (won 2011)
Masters (won 2010)

So he has a decent record in the upcoming events and could well shorten.

So back him next week Harry, couldn't be any worse odds and should be better if one of the other fancies wins. BIG money this week. But hey, it's your cash!

I have to say I think 9s is a pretty good price.

There was an article on the PGA Tour website the other day about how 2012 could be a 'career year' for Mickelson.

"As good as Haas was in wining the Northern Trust Open on Sunday, however, Mickelson is as big a story as there is in golf right now.

After an indifferent start to his year, Mickelson has finished 1-2 each of the last two weeks. Save for a few missed putts and errant shots on Sunday -- it's rare Mickelson doesn't have any of those, even when he's on -- the future World Golf Hall of Famer is playing the kind of golf that could lead to a very big year.

"These last two weeks have been good," said Mickelson, whose next start will be at the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship, as he makes his run up to the Masters, which is seven weeks away.

Good is an understatement.

Mickelson is a combined 24 under in his last eight rounds, has been dialed in with his irons and off the tee and, save for a couple of costly three-putts Sunday, is rolling it well.

Early in the year, it didn't go nearly as well for Mickelson, who had zero top-25s in three starts and couldn't make anything.

"He came into the year almost overconfident," Mickelson's coach Butch Harmon told me when I asked him the difference between this year and last. "He just didn't get off to the kind if started he wanted."

After an emergency visit from Harmon earlier this year in Phoenix, however, Lefty righted the ship and was able to take what he'd been working on in practice to tournament play.

"It's a process," Mickelson said. "There are a lot of little mental hurdles.

"It comes down to being able to focus on each individual shot, not trying to force the issue, trying to be patient with the round, accepting the bad breaks. It's all these little hurdles that you have to deal with to be able to get the end result."

Mickelson didn't get the result he wanted Sunday, but he wasn't far off."
