Another cracking lineup this week in California. Traditionally this is quite a tough course so I'm stacking my lineup with course experience and value prices where possible. All ew.

B Haas 50/1
J Rollins 55/1
R Sabbatini 66/1
J Senden 80/1

Gl with all selections Happy

Just a straight lay of Micks for me, he normally struggles to follow up a win energy wise, and flying back each evening to see the missus is not going to help...!

Outside of the majors, my favourite tournament because I've played the courseHappy - it was 4 years ago but I still remember every shot. Playing off 16 at the time, shot 31 stableford points (front tees), was reasonably happy with it.

The thing was this kikuyu grass, it was unbelievable - it can make you look completely inept. Right beside the green in 3 on the par 5 1st, just in a little semi-rough with a lovely lie. Went right under it for my 4th, stubbed it on my 5th, finished with a 7 and completely puzzled.

Playing partners had similar experiences through the opening holes - I know you have to accelerate through the ball on every shot, but you can get away with sometimes just knocking the ball forward onto the green or back onto fairway. Not on this stuff, wierd in many respects. Even the pros are cautious of it.

Classic parkland layout, this is one for the pure ball strikers. Been quiet on the punt the last few weeks but Nick Watney at 50s, not a price I can let slide, it's bigger than his Masters price. Taken it.  Likewise Adam Scott, previous winner here, on fire second half of last year, fresh, nice price, I'll take that too.

Aaron Baddeley must have a great chance, last years champ and played very well at Pebble Beach just like he did last year.

The halving of his odds from last week is a sign of that, Denman.

I think Dustin will be hard to beat on a course which sets up perfectly for him. Other than that, I have backed Woodland, Cantlay, Vegas, Kokrak and Leishman so far. May add a couple more before the off.

Good luck to all.

Both played their best for a while last week, so sticking with the same as last weeks picks, Dustybin and Pod. Phil will be tough to beat and surprisingly has a great record on this course given his sometimes erratic driving.

John Senden looks primed up for this for me....has all the stats in place to have a realistic chance of taking this.

Kevin Na,Van Pelt and Jason Day make up my team.
Big nap for me though is Senden.......

this is what i notice about senden. senden will prob pretend to contend til middle of rd3. then he will fall back to the pack to end round three. then he has a blinder of a round 4 to top 5 or top 10 without actually threatening the lead.

Senden is a bona fide non winner for mine - has no killer instinct at all

Such a good player in so many ways, but not one to be holding on to on the weekend

When: 15 Feb 12 10:01
Yes AD thats always a concern with Senden but his putting has improved for sure and thats always been his reason for not finishing it off......

A brief summary on picks for the Northern Trust Open
Mark Wilson 0.5 ew 90/1 - a pick purely on price - books continually price him up at big odds despite winning twice early in 2011 and already winning this year. Course form isn't that great although he putted really well on his debut when 11th but then again his from on the Humana corses where he won the other week wasn't good either.
Trevor Immelman 0.75 ew 125/1 - main pick of the week. Last week he was 66/80 and proceeded to m/c at Pebble Beach but he has never played well there and was stuck with George Lopez all week. The 10th hole at Riviera is his favorite golf hole in the world and the whole course reminds him of home with its Kikuyu fairways and Bentgrass greens - standard fare for the top South African courses. He was 7th on his debut here but since then has mainly played the event when in poor form/injured - this year he isn't and perhaps it is time for him to emulate fellow South African winners Els/Sabbatini.
Jimmy Walker - 0.2 ew 100/1 + 0.4 top ten 10/1- I expected him to be well backed this week but his price has held up well. He is on a bit of a roll in California with finishes of 9/4/54/8/9 with the 4th coming here last season and says Riviera is one of his favourite corses of the year.
Andres Romero 0.25 ew 125/1 - with finishes of 3rd and 5th here he is worth a small bet. Seemingly out of form but he can find it from nowhere and his m/c in Phoenix was down to just two awful holes. He says the corse suits his game perfectly and I am willing to give him a squeak.
Kevin Stadler 0.5 top ten 14/1 + 0.1 ew Rd 1 leader 125/1 The former USC Trojan had Riviera as one of his home courses when at Uni, still lives just down the road and loves playing here and has been 10th and 12th the last 2 seasons. He can also boast a 2nd and 5th after round one and has an early tee time.

I'm with you on Wilson TMM. The guy is a winner and almost always seems over-priced.

Backed three this week, Donald win only, should suit Garcia, so backed him each way. But backed Kyung-Tae Kim each way massive price, for someone who has been in good form, should have won the Aussie PGA and played well in the Nedbank. GL everyone

Can someone tell me why I shouldn't back Day e/w ? Definately would have over-hauled Lawrie over 4 rounds the other week IMO. Good start, obviously not rusty and a very good putter. If I'm missing anything let me know.

No great rocket science in my picks this week.

Badds, who I backed for this last year, so I'm not going to desert now after his finish on Sunday!

Then Na, Moore, Harrington, Allenby & the only slightly 'off the radar' pick Anthony Kim. He has to come good again soon and a hometown game could be just the ticket to get him going for the year.

Good luck everyoneGrin

Added KJ, some decent form here and good form. Added Retief as well at 130s, nice price for a quality player rediscovering his best golf, Saffers at home here as previously stated.

Agree rhino, surprised Goosen hasn't been mentioned more. He looks a fair obvious pick to me so I clearly must be missing something.
