A decent field, that will interest me.
De Jong @ 70s played well last two weeks. Noh 180s, and Gainey @ 300s my first 3, but there is some value out there. |

Bubba, Phil and DJ 1,2,3 last year - a course that suits the bombers?
K.Bradley 35/1 and Woodland 45/1 for me |
|
By:
used to be the tiger woods show, but he's off elsewhere.
|
|
By:
phil has some course form here and a San Diego native, too bad about his current form but did have a strong 3rd round last week. I think Jack is on the right path with Keegan and Woodland. TMM - DA Points, he does seem to grow a leg when playing beside the ocean, not sure why that is but for whatever reason he does.
|
|
By:
I wouldn't read into his 'current form' too much. He really picked up towards the end and he himself said he might have been 'too eager' to go.
He sounded positive for the year in one of the interviews I managed to catch. So don't let last week put you off. |

Probably only other bet for me before the off is Michael Thopmson 0.5 ew 100/1

A few that interest me are
Marc Leishman John Rollins Ryuji Imada Charlie Hoffman Matt Every John Mallinger All have performed well at this tournament with varying sucess at some stage previously. Im particulary drawn to John Rollins and Matt Every who have both showed a bit of form this year already. All each way |

I fancy Geoff Ogilvy in this alot,no stranger to this course and winner 1st time out 2 of the past 3 years, finished 13th on his first outing last year and still was in with a shout up to the back 9 in the final round.......First time in the Farmers tourn.
|
|
By:
plenty you can like the look of this week but in the end I've settled on the following.
Charles Howell III Ben Crane Camillo Villegas John Rollins CH3 has to win again eventually & this course is right up his street as he's proven in the past. Good luck all! |
|
By:
I despair for Phil and wonder (like with Ernie) if we'll ever see him in the winners circle again. I used to back him near enough blindly years ago but wouldn't touch him with a bargepole these days
Last week he was on about 'blowing away the rust' 'getting his game in order' and not playing in Hawaii 'to avoid picking up bad habits' - anyone who backed him was near enough on a non-trier going by those comments. All these excuses when he used to be so quick out the blocks in his hayday |
|
By:
It does make you wonder if and when age catches up with certain players. I have backed Retief Goosen for what seems an age now, and im starting to think that he will never hold aloft a trophy again.
I think Ernie might be fired up by the chance to get back into the worlds top 50 to gain entry into the Masters. I could see him challenging for one of early season tournaments if not this one. His iron play on Sunday was sublime. |
|
By:
They say that an English rose is a thing of beauty. Well let's hope they're right, as Justin, and Harris battle it out down the stretch come sunday.
Also on Hunter Mahan, and Bobby Gates. Good luck with your bets. |
|
By:
I know they both lost in a play off only two days ago, but it'll be kind of ironic (against eachother) if that was the last chance Ernie and Retief get to win. Apart from Phil, I would add Furyk to the list as well
There's so much hungry young talent coming through it's becoming more and more difficult for the aging greats to win. I wonder how many of these guys will end up on the seniors tour or just call it a day and quit when the time comes |
|
By:
Phil and Furyk will have multiple victories each within the next few years.

1 bet for me so far, Ernie Els.
played this course(s) 3 times in the last 11 years (1 US Open) and his record is fairly impressive. 5th and 6th in the Farmers/Buick and 14th in the 08 US Open. Played superb on sunday at the Volvo Champions could have easily won if he was just a little more aggressive with his putting on the last 6 holes but in the end lost out in a play off (unlucky on the playoff hole too, hit a decent drive just ran out of fairway) Ernie has got the game for this course, great tee to green game and will welcome the wind (breeze). If he can find a decent touch on the green 48's could look very big on Sunday for a player of his quality. He is also normally a very fast starter to the Season. gl guys ![]() |

I was under the impression this revival was sparked by wanting to play Augusta this year.

Last year I picked DA Points when he won at Pebble Beach - the reasoning behind the bet last year was that he was in form having had some great results in events he had played poorly before, he had some good course form (admittedly some of it hidden in a different event) and felt at home on the courses and was apparently inpsired by fellow Illinois resident Mark Wilson having won. Step forward 12 months and much the same applies - he is back in California in an event where he has been 9th and 5th the last two years and syas he feels really comfortable at Torrey Pines. He has already had two starts - 12th in the Champions event and 6th at the Sony - bear in mind his previous form there was 64/mc/76/mc. In both those events he was 3rd in GIR - a facet of the game much needed here. Add in the fact that as in 12 months ago Mark Wilson has just won and we have the makings of a decent bet.
Second pick is Michael Thompson who I think is destined to have a big year on tour. In 2008 he was the best amateur in the world before turning pro - playing as an amateur in the US Open in that year he was tied 29th here at Torrey Pines - a very good achievement and last year after a good start in this event he faded but cashed his first ever paycheck on the PGA tour - Torrey Pines holds some good memories. The week after that US Open he was invited to play at River Highlands and was in the top five at the cut - he put that experience to good use in 2011 when he finished 4th at that venue. He added a further 3rd placed finish at Sea Island (another coastal venue) and came out quickly this year at the Sony with a 6th placed finish. In the off season he travelled to Thailand and was 3rd there - he is obviously on a great run of form and at 100/1 is worth a decent bet |

I thought Keegan Bradley would have a fair chance this week on a course that suits long hitters but seeing the draw tempers my enthusiasm. He has played 3 times with Watson first 2 missed cut and 3rd in tour championship faded totally out of contention in 3rd round. Seem to remember Kim and Frazer shooting about 5 shots more playing with him in an Australin event at the end of last year. Maybe its just coincidence.
Selections; Keegan Bradley 40 Brendon de Jonge 70 Jason Kokrak 350 William McGirt 330 Bobby Gates 250 D J Trahan 330 Good Luck on Your Selections |

another one on Rollins here. And:-
Mallinger Molder Lee Wi Gillis hope I at least get in a position to lay some off this week....confidence oozes |

think els may be a man of the past. his putting needs to improve hugely. once the yips kick in it destroys confidence. belly putter doesn't seem to have improved things significantly for him....doesn't leave many alternatives bar the broom handle

Sneds,Crane and Camillio for me...Mr V showed some form last week and has some form here ...48s seemed v nice

I have had a third player I have wanted to back all week for the Farmers Insurance and that is Californian Brendan Steele. He has shown some his best form in his home state and last year was 17th here - paired with the returning Tiger Woods in the final round he best him by five strokes. He is out on the easy course first today and for a man who won on the PGA tour last season in his rookie year and played in the last two ball of the PGA Championship on the final day which his good friend Keegan Bradley won then 150/1 does seem a big price - 0.2 e/w.

I like your picks, tmm, have added Mickleson, Haas, Imada and Noh.

South Course showing its teeth already....
|
|
By:
Some start by snedeker though golfnut, has great course form so might be in a great position if he shoots something in the mid sixties.
|
|
By:
Cannot believe the Layers are prepared to Lay Snedeker at bigger than 10/1 even after his bogey at the 9th. The front 9 on the SC is bar far the hardest 9 out the 4 and even if he gets -2 on the back 9 I doubt anyone else bar maybe Watney will be within 2 shots of a -5 score on the SC
|
|
By:
Agree,it's a great start, and when you factor in he's course and current form, price looks way too big.

Bio Kim 6 birdies on the bounce, -7 thru 12, not bad for a 1000-1 shot.
|
|
By:
Would you swap your packet of Bio Kim for two packets of a regular washing powder ?
|
|
By:
I'd be keeping the Bio powder right now Maggot, at least until round 1 is over. On my radar this kid I was impressed by him at Disney last year, on the nationwide this season but one for the future. Won't win here but if I had him at 1000 I'd be letting it ride for now.
