There have been few rounds on a national stage that went below the 60 mark. Only three have ever been recorded on the PGA Tour, one on the LPGA and a handful of others in different professional stages. After Sunday's 58 by Ryo Ishikawa, it is time to figure out which of the sub-60 rounds is most impressive.

1. David Duval, 59, final round of the 1999 Bob Hope: It had everything you could ask for in a flawless final round. A come-from-behind victory, a must-make putt on the final green, a dominant player in his absolute prime and even a Tommy Hilfiger shirt to boot.

2. Annika Sorenstam, 59, second round of the 2001 Standard Register Ping: Not far behind on the drama scale, and only below Duval because it came on Friday and not Sunday. The problem with Sorenstam's 13-under 59 is it could have easily been lower.

3. Jason Gore, 59, second round of 2005 Nationwide Tour event: Sure, you might think I'm crazy to put this one so high, but it was shot in arguably the hottest stretch anyone has ever had on the Nationwide Tour, and he posted his 59 by driving the final hole, a par-4, and making the eagle putt. Talk about clutch.

4. Al Geiberger, 59, second round of the 1977 Danny Thomas Memphis Classic: He isn't Mr. 59 for nothing. Geiberger's 13-under round was the first recorded on the PGA Tour and helped him secure his 10th victory on tour.

5. Ryo Ishikawa, 58, final round of 2010 Japan Tour event: Sure, it wasn't in a "major" tour, but it was good enough to jump a ton of other good players (including one on this list) to win his seventh Japan Tour title, and he missed a short putt on the final hole for a 57!

6. Chip Beck, 59, third round of 1991 Las Vegas Invitational: Sandwiched between Geiberger and Duval was Beck's 59, played in the five-round Las Vegas Invitational. The only problem was, it didn't hoist him to victory, as Beck is one of the few with a 59 on his card and no trophy.

7. Jason Bohn, 58, final round of 2001 Canadian Tour event: Maybe ranked a hair too high, but he shot a 58 with a bogey!

8. Notah Begay III, 59, secound round of 1998 Nike Tour event: Fairly hilarious, only because after Begay got his 59, one of three recorded on the Nationwide Tour, he shot weekend rounds of 74-74.

9. Doug Dunakey, 59, second round of 1998 Nike Tour event: He didn't win the week he shot 59, but he did the week after, carding closing rounds of 65.

10. Steve Marino, 59, third round of 2006 Gateway Tour Championship: Maybe one of my favorites, just because I've played the course, and I don't see how anyone could post 59 there even if they only played 16 holes. Oh, and he won that week by 10 shots.

gone from 4 to 15 in the last 15 years

There are 15 sub-60 rounds in PGA Tour history: 14 59s and one 58, shot by Jim Furyk at the 2016 Travelers Championship (Furyk also owns a 59, from the 2013 BMW Championship).

The first was Al Geiberger at the 1977 Memphis Classic, which wasn’t matched until Chip Beck at the 1991 Las Vegas Invitational. Next was David Duval at the 1999 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. Then, Paul Goydos did it at the 2010 John Deere Classic. In the 2010s, there were seven sub-60 rounds, and now almost halfway through the 2020s there are four, with Cameron Young and Hayden Springer adding their names to the list last season.
