Has anyone had similar situation before? Someone stole money from my account by moving to poker account and then losing it on poker games (most likely to some other account where they could withdraw it). I reported it and the only outcome so far is that my account is locked without any information for how long. I am wondering how long it may take to get it unlocked and if there is any chance getting money back. It was not a huge amount and I was going to do deposit and continue, but I cannot due to lock.

About 15 years ago, was on the exchange my balance kept going up and down. Contacted them someone had deposited from my usual bank account and was playing on the casino. Betfair argued couldn't be 2 devices logged in but eventually gave me the other log in location over 100 miles away from me. In the end had to contact police then my bank who eventually gave me my money back and had to open new betfair account.

sevey - I'm not overly knowledgeable about account hacking but I suppose the most obvious thing would be for them to check the IP Address (location) from where the hack took place and compare it to your IP Address (which I would assume is always the same and also matches the location of EVERY other log-in that has EVER occurred on your account previously, bar that one).

IF any of these statements are true, I would also point out to them:

That you have never used the cash-out facility before, you've never bet on dogs before, you've never bet in £300 stakes before.

I would have thought a one-off ROUGE IP address coupled with completely abnormal activity/betting patterns would make for a fairly strong case. The only other thing I would add, is that if their initial decision does go against you - don't accept it and escalate it with them. GL.

Another reason to enable 2FA (two-factor authentication) on your BF account.  That way there is no practicable route for a hacker to access your account.

I set mine up as soon as it was available, years ago.

I also self-excluded and/or set a tiny (£1) transfer/loss limit for all the products I don't use (Poker, Casino, Arcade etc).
Report ericster April 10, 2025 7:46 AM BST
How does 2FA work and how do you set it up please ?
Report longbridge April 10, 2025 10:15 AM BST
Ericster

You install the Google Authenticator app on your smartphone and link it to your account.

From then on, either on every login, or when a login is attempted from a new device (your choice) the login process requires you to enter the 6-digit code from the Authenticator app.

I'm on a laptop here, should have said.
Sorry.

I'm on a laptop for Betfair.

The smartphone is the "2" bit of "2FA" - a second thing to prove you are who you say you are.  The phone gives you the code and you type it into the website on the laptop.

That's way over my head longbridge.
Sorry for wasting your time.

Don't have a smart phone, or whatever those things are called.
And as for "apps".
Wouldn't have a clue where to begin.

Not to worry, may be of use to others.

Any joy yet sevey?

I would imagine you need this sorted out very quickly and to establish immediately what you want i.e. Are you looking to recoup the cash-out value of the stolen bets at the time you were hacked (£655) or are you looking to gets the bets reinstated to run their course (in which case the value of them will be continuously fluctuating until they conclude). I think you kind of need to get that established from the outset, otherwise the amount you are disputing is an unknown and could vary from zero (if they lose) to a much larger amount(if they win).

As things stand, even if they agree you have been hacked; it's not really clear what kind of figure is involved.

It reinforces the whole point of having knowledgable and efficient people working in Customer Service and a communication channel that actually works for the customer - which obviously isn't just the cheapest options like live-chat and Twitter!

great advice from longbridge, go to safer gambling tools and set poker, exchange games etc. to £1 a year loss. As for 2FA, if you can't set it up, you shouldn't be on here.

Die Linke - sevey's issue is with SkyBet (not BF) - no idea if they even offer 2FA

sevey is fine (good to hear) - any news from the OP?
Report The Management April 17, 2025 7:43 PM BST
Assuming the OP's issue was with Betfair - he is probably still on "live-chat" explaining his situation to Gesundheit or Desdemona.
