Cheers, yes I admit for a minute my head was turned towards the win part of things and I suppose at the minute it could be another 30 + points ahead, but it's just too volatile, it would only take one bigger one to scrape up and suddenly the whole things 50 points down!
I believe to be successful in the win market u would need to make a proper book in all races to have a chance of finding a (hopefully) long term winning system.

For the moment I don't plan to change anything but I am mulling over my staking plan in the sense of weather it would be better switching to a level liability sort of idea over the current standard point staking plan.

If you're not already doing so, it would be very simple to set up an Excel spreadsheet to compare the two staking methods

It's hard to judge based on what still is (and will be for a considerable time yet) a very limited data-set.

Cheers, no I won't be quitting, it's annoying but I'm not new enough to think the bad days won't happen.
I was actually surprised it got away with only a 6 point loss.
I'm still confident this can make steady profit, in fact right now I believe it's as hard as it gets,these utter slogfests can make a mockery of any facts and figures you use to pick yer bets.

Interesting thread system99 - I wouldn't want to go as high as 26.0 in the place market - partially because you would need such a big sample to confirm an edge at those prices.

I would also have concerns about laying 3 or more in the same race (especially in a field size as low as 9 runners) - related contingency is probably the wrong expression - but I would worry that as some of your runners fail to threaten the places, so the chances of your remaining runners placing will increase. Hope that makes sense. To lay that many in a race I would want a huge field with either a perceived draw advantage or extreme ground/going.

Very interesting (and profitable so far) though - so keep it going!

I suppose what I raised earlier cuts both ways - i.e. if one of yours does fill a place, there is a reduced chance that the others will, as there are then less places remaining to be filled. I have always struggled to get my head around it - but mostly only place lay one per race anyway.

I think laying 3 in the 17:15 is very brave. GL.

ty, have done just that, the table is simply to make life easier/cleaner, no more updating during racing, just a table of selections and a table with results.

Scraped through today only losing 4 points and although still in front, 12 points from 6 days isn't good enough so I'm making the tweak but not what I said earlier.

Pleased to see you are going to continue system 999.
At the prices and the volumes, there are bound to be ups and downs on the journey - the overall direct of travel over time is the only thing that actually matters.

If you do have an edge - the slow drip will always fill the bucket imo
Only time and sample size will tell you if you have either a nice leaky tap - or alternatively if there is a hole in your bucket!

maybe famous last words here but i actually feel more confident than the p/l suggests as on day 1 i forgot to put in one of my intended rules when getting the selections.
But cos it was a decent enough start i carried on as is (without rule) but last night i worked it out and would have been 21 points better off with it, so in a way this is day 1 of a adapted system,obv rule included now.

I agree with The Management and would add, don't panic too soon! Collect more data (including that of those falling outside your price parameters), MUCH more data, IMHO. It's still EXTREMELY early days.

@ latalomne , actually really like the idea of keeping track and cos of the way i make the selections when picked i have no clue at all what prices they will be, and i mean no idea from fave to 1000/1 shot.
and with the table sorted its no hardship to add a column as a mythical p/l laying all selections irrelevant of price.

Good stuff, System99! One suggestion from me, assuming you're not already using a separate Excel sheet to record all of this in addition to the above: actually record the prices (maybe BFSP?) regardless of the result. It makes the data soooooo much more useful when you come to analyse it!

Hi system99 - great to see you are sticking with it. It's interesting and I wish you well.

I still think you need to do something to filter out the very big prices though. Partly because of the huge sample you would require to understand if you have an edge at those high prices - but mostly because of liquidity. The place markets are so thin that any decent sized lay/bet on the place market (especially at the bottom end of the market) can have a very significant impact on the price.

For example - your first race today - there was only about £400-£500 matched on your lay selection (Sea Sister). Roughly speaking it drifted from about 7.0 out to about 12.50 pre-race and returned an SP near that top end of that range. Getting £2.00 laid and recording a matched price of 7.0 (a liability of £12) is fair enough - but if you wanted to lay it for £100 (i.e. inject an extra £200 matched into a market that only had £400 matched), you would not have got anything much on at 7.00 and BOTH your average price matched and the SP would have been much higher, as would your liability and as would your loss on the ones that do run into a place.

Just some food for thought - I think you need to concentrate on the liquid end of the place market (the top end) because I don't think there is much value in recording SP's or your matched price for the big priced ones - if you played them (for any worthwhile amount) at a typical meeting, you would be pushing the prices right out and eroding your own edge/value.

hi mate, i agree in many ways what your saying but the biggest problem is i dont pick the selections for this, there picked thru a set of rules i designed and if i start messing with that then it'll no longer be the system and end up being influenced by me and i have 40+ years of evidence that that doesnt work lol!!

i'm going to start doing what latalone suggested and include the prices, so will be able to be broken down to only analyzing the shorter ones but cant think of any other way around it at the moment.

p.s - if anyone has suggestions for this system in general, i'm more than happy to consider them, i aint proud, if it makes in better i'll pinch an idea off anyone!!!
