How are people doing his?  Seeing as you can't edit the back unless you submit a £2 bet to start with?

A different currency or betunfair bot.
Report CLYDEBANK29 May 27, 2016 11:11 AM BST
It's not the Betfair bot and it's not a different currency
Report CLYDEBANK29 May 27, 2016 11:13 AM BST
If it was the Betfair bot, every thing at 1000 would be matched for the same stake at the same time.  If it was a different currency the amounts matched wouldn't be tiny.

£2 @ 1000.
Edit to £3.90 @ 1000.
Cancel the £2 @ 1000.
Left with £1.90 @ 1000.

Super - that's the normal way, but the OP is asking how this can be done if the price is already 1000.0
Report Super Hans May 27, 2016 7:18 PM BST
I see.
No idea?
Report Coachbuster May 28, 2016 11:16 AM BST
they probably go to the 2000/1 option on the drop down screen which not many folk know about  Cool
Report clacherholiday2 May 28, 2016 4:57 PM BST
its impossible for anyone using a bot or the website to place the bet, so it must be on betfairs end.

it may well be part of the cross matching algorithm
Report trebor May 29, 2016 1:50 AM BST
There may have been a small amount of money there ( less than £1 )before you placed yours there, so there's and yours get matched on one occasion, if it repeats then I don't know.
Report big aitch May 29, 2016 9:58 AM BST
clacher is right, it must be the bf bots doing it, no one else could do it, regardless of what bot they use. I remember years ago seeing something about a bot backing the whole field when it hit less than 100%, but there are so many bots going nowadays I would think it never happens, even in running.
Report CLYDEBANK29 May 29, 2016 12:30 PM BST
The Betfair xmatcher usually works by backing the whole field when it's under 100% and laying the whole field when it's over 100%.  Since I was first in the queue at 1000 on more than a few selections you would think it would back each one to the same stake simultaneously.  Plus it never went below 1000.  That said I believe it was the Betfair x matcher algorithm "evening up" it's book

hidden bots  all the time luring in the background .

if you fancy wasting £2 Plain    ,just ask for a stupid price on a 'dead' market and see how quickly is is taken -  immediate !!!
Report Coachbuster May 29, 2016 3:20 PM BST
or lurking even
Report timbuctooth May 30, 2016 7:10 AM BST
CB, how do you know you were first in the queue? Had you looked at the graph prior to placing the bet? Only looking at the ladder, you wouldn`t see any amount less than £2 that might be already waiting.
Report Coachbuster May 30, 2016 4:08 PM BST
those were my thoughts timbu (and no,i didn't look at the graph) - but bets of £2 do get taken that aren't shown on the screen -so i assume these are in house bots .

try it somehere where there is  a minimal loss of value - it might cost you 30p or so to find out though
Report timbuctooth May 30, 2016 4:46 PM BST
My post was for Clydebank, but then noticed you`ve got the same initials.

By `on the screen`, do you mean `ladder screen`, or `graph screen`?
Report Dr Syns Bed Chamber May 30, 2016 7:28 PM BST
Could be someone's bot. There was a time when someone figured out to lay above 1000. It may not be "impossible". But I suspect it's something betfair are doing.

Is Trading Software part of it?
Report pxb May 31, 2016 12:10 AM BST
so i assume these are in house bots

Total bets below AUD4 (UKP2?) don't show on the betting screen. Someone for years has put up very large numbers of $3 bets, because they don't show when there are no other bets at the price. Must be a winning strategy because he is still doing it.

It's no secret how to place bets below the minimum amount (except as the OP points out, backing 1000).
Report CLYDEBANK29 May 31, 2016 7:19 AM BST
Pretty certain that wasn't the case tim, as my recollection is I had consecutive tiny bets taken on the same selection at 1,000.
Report longbridge May 31, 2016 10:30 AM BST

Is this putting up @ 1000 or taking @ 1000?  If the latter my guess would be it's the cross-matcher - if you're simulating a lay of horse A by backing horse B,C,D etc then your back bets will be inversely proportional to the odds on offer so you'll end up putting pennies on the 1000 horse?
Report Macsys November 25, 2016 10:08 PM GMT
you can place bets for as low as you want on geekstoy
Report Owmybrainhurtz November 25, 2016 10:28 PM GMT
I do it frequently. I bet almost exclusively on golf, laying mostly. With the "cash out" facility, when cashing out, players I've laid at short odds are often available at 1000 and are matched for small amounts.
