a market where you have an edge. Then you will just have a risky staking scheme. If you don't have an edge you will lose all your bankroll.

well for a start, backing evens is suicidal.
the higher the odds, the longer you can go before doing all your dough in. say you backed a football team to draw 0-0 at around 11.0 every time til they did...youd only have to increase your stake by a very small percentage each time. much better than doubling up. but ive spent 20 years studying this, the fact is it just doesnt work. whatever you choose, eventually you will hit a long losing streak that wipes you out or makes you quit before it does. the maths just dont stack up. say you start with £10 at evens, then keep doubling it, in 6 goes youve spent £630 just win a tenner. you have risked £10, cos youve committed to staking £630 overall. so basically youre putting £630 on a 1.01 shot. it doesnt look like thats what you are doing, but thats exactly what youre doing. |

ffs lots of typos there. you haveNT risked £10

if you feel you must martingale then frame betting on snooker matches between two close competitors.
You'll probably get away with it the first time, so take the winnings and run, and don't try it again as that would be pushing your luck ![]() |

What about following a "top" striker in footy?
Pick a half-decent one and back him to score at anytime from match to match. Any of the "big" European leagues - you can get odds against most of the time. Not my cup of tea but just a thought - probably asking for a decent striker to go on a "goal drought" now! ![]() |

Hamsterdam. I think you answered your own question in your OP: "backing at evens or slightly above". You may get lucky on a 50/50 shot but why should you? Roulette is about the closest you can get to a true evens. And that doesn't work unless your name is Schalke.

ive spent 20 years studying this
It took you 20 years to establish that Martingaling doesn't work? |

What Market Would Be Best To 'Martin Gale'?
One in which I'm laying, please. |
|
By:
Back at 2/1 and above. Max 4 reps then return to start stake. Use small stakes give it a few months then re access your results and selection process
|
|
By:
I meant 4 reps without a win before returning to start stake.
|
|
By:
Well that wouldn't be a Martingale, then, would it?
|
|
By:
So what would it be then?

A Macarony, I suppose.

"Roulette is about the closest you can get to a true evens"
Many years ago ...I worked with some really clever BStards...in the Accounts Dept. of an Oil Company. When we didn't have much work on ..we looked at all forms of gambling Horses,Dogs, BlackJack,Roulette etc ... we even bought the book "Beat the Dealer" (card counting on BlackJack). Our analysis showed us ...best odds against us were on Roulette (house margin 2.7%) From that we developed a Roulette staking plan ...slow martingale betting even chance Red/Black. Now a good weekly wage then was about £30 a week ! So off I trotted to a Casino in Soho...to work "the system" Not being greedy - Day one - I won £40 Day two...another £40 Day 3 ....another £40 Day 4 ....another £40 (Jesus I thought I/we'd cracked it) Day 5...19 consecutive blacks, then zero then another 6 blacks (I was betting Red) So total pot gone ...Oh well that cured me ! I also witnessed same Casino (Golden Nugget) ...5 consecutive zeros ! At spin 3 Pit Boss changed the dealer ..was looking at the ball through a magnifying glass .. changed the ball ...another two zeros - the place went mad ! |

A clever person may know instantly that the martingale system is a bad idea, but for the rest of us, unless you dedicate many hours trying to make it work, hopefully on paper, it does seem like a good idea???
I often dive in when I get an idea, and most of the time it's cost me money. I've tried everything to make this system work and failed miserably! Don't do it!!! |

On your 5th day - 19 consecutive backs , a zero, then 6 more blacks ????
I am sorry but i would have to say YOU LYIN BSTD ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I once wrote a simple program to keep generating 2 random numbers, and was absolutely amazed at the results. It really pissed me off cos it made me realise how quickly a long series of the same number can occur!
This program probably stopped me from going bankrupt. |

why would he lie about that..................
commission kills martin galers who bet even moneys on ere |

That's a joke, right? If you're using Martingale, you factor commission in to every bet. You just have a little bit more on to cover the extra. |
|
By:
The whole idea of the system is that you can beat the built-in odds that are against you.
The 2 most amazing things about the Martingale system are: 1. That people are so easily convinced it will work 2. That it still gets discussed regularly - and seriously - on forums like this |

While not Mr Galing the best book about roulette ever written must be Thirteen Against the Bank, which I read when it first came out. The author was using a Reverse Labouchère system.
If you haven't read it, even if you're not interested in roulette, you should as it's a fascinating read. I won't give the game away in case you do want to read it. |

ZEALOT - Many years ago...probably over 30.....I was in a Casino and only had £25 on me .
Was not doubling up......and was backing initially RED.....and 13 BLACKS came up.....and was down to about £7. Decided to change tables and to play BLACK.....pulled a few squid back.....then was hit by 11 REDS followed by a zero. Had enough of roulette after that night and never played it again! A true tale ![]() |
