My thanks to gallivanter for alerting me to this on another thread. I just want to give it a thread of its own to see if other forumites have come across it and what their thoughts are,before I splash the cash,is it worth a read,and will it improve ones ability to make betting pay.

I'm not sure it will make your betting pay, but it's certainly worth a read from a historical viewpoint re. the lives of Shannon, Kelly and Thorp.

For improving your betting (trading in particular), i'd try Jack Schwager's Market Wizard series, which are based around interviews with top financial traders and are really insightful.

I enjoyed Fortune's Formula, if anything it will make you realise that there is no such thing as a magic system and may stop you over-staking but it is more to do with the crashes on Wall St than Sports gambling

Definitely one of the better betting books, worth a read.
