Went to a new coral shop. Tried to place £220 @ 8/11 and they phoned for ptl. What's the world coming to.

Not ever going back there again.

I have to go to a new shop to get more than £10 on. They only want the lunchtime and benefit money custom, plus whatever they can get from the four machines.

I don't do shops, I'm tempted to go and try and put my days bets on in one to see what happens, but then the lesser prices would probs stop me when it came to the crunch.

They are a nightmare. I cannot get more than £25 on and sometimes they will only offer SP if price is over 10/1. They always phone up and discreetly give a description to head office who circulate this to all bookies in the area. They then put a ref no. on the betting slip

Their staff are completely clueless about horseracing and I guess it's the same with the head staff. All they want is a shop full of FOBTs.

If someone walks in with a grand I can understand them maybe checking with head office , but even so if they're REAL bookmakers they should be able to take the bet and just adjust their prices accordingly.

I tried to back Bint Dandy in 1955 Wolv on the sportsbook early yesterday morning, it would only accept a max of 28, where as bet365 would take at least 200, not that I wanted that much but I did a bet max just to see what they'd accept. Strangely it drifted like a barge but still won (BOG phew)

I fancy Laudatory as a big price ew in the 1500 Ascot today, I think I'll do 50ew at a shop to see if they blink when I'm not a regular.
Report pawras November 1, 2014 10:09 AM GMT
I went into the local Corals and put 50 ew on Laudatory at 33/1, they guy rang up first though. But I imagine if I was a regular doing things like that then it might have been a different story.
I don't have big expectations for it as the my strike rate at high odds like that is pretty low but the strike/odds ratio is good enough over time.

i have found only ladbrokes to lay a reasonable size bet, online and in the shops, forget the rest, askari summed it up. Mugs, lunchtime, benefit and machine players Sad

i would lay ladbrokes prices all day long too, because they are totally and utterly craaap.its not uncommon for them to be shortest price about every horse in a race! any lumpy bet these shysters happen to take i would imagine is quickly arbed with another firm by one of their brave "traders"

Went into the Corals in Holloway Road and was told the manager has put in a new rule. £50 maximum slip size, regardless of what the bet is. Saves them ever having to get a PTL and no  end of hassle, apparently.

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
