A very random question......if you are making the game pay, then should it be boring, just like most normal jobs? If its exciting and you cant control yourself, then isnt it just gambling?

Unfortunately I know I am the latter and I also suspect that boring is best, but interested in people's views, especially those who collect on here regularly.

Have become bored with aspects of the game in the past - tennis & footie trading - walked away from them despite the profits. Horses in-play have never bored me.....if it did I'd be gone.

99% of my betting is on horse racing and from day one never found boring. I love it and always will, keeping my brain active with all the reading, studying and the maths. Downfall is time spent sat on your @rse not good can make me feel very tired.

I find horse racing IR the most interesting. But then it's the one I lose my money on.

Good OP question - research would suggest that a lot of problem gambling stems from the very fact that it is in some way 'exciting' in terms of brain chemistry. In contrast I guess a truly successful systematic way of betting would likely be rather boring to operate.

So, I guess the correct answer is yes, it should be boring if you want success at betting. I haven't mastered that yet, sadly either. I've fallen for the rush of betting way too much over the years.

Yes it should/will be boring, the only thing that makes it interesting is winning large amounts.  I can make profits but not at a level that makes it interesting.

I dream of the days when I made money from multiple bets rolling up, seems like an impossible dream these days.

The problem with making boring profits is that you end up thinking you'd be better off doing something else....like working at McDonalds.

Speaking as someone who makes a living betting on horses I would say its far from boring as the gaps between winners always make the winners very enjoyable. Parts of the process to make money are however very boring, updating ratings, entering in database, going through bad class 5's that doesn't produce bets, getting new accounts/aliases...........

That feeling and your heart beating at 180 you get when you have a lump on a 14/1 and its cruising 2 out is something hard to replace and shouldn't be boring to any level of punter.

In a way I disagree with Guru. I would say that the action of betting is boring and so its preferable that way if you want to be profitable. By contrast I find the research side interesting, this may not quite be what Guru meant but nevertheless writing software to test various hypothesis is the fun bit

I find it's not boring when I am making big profits and backing winners.  It's amazing the difference it makes to your motivation.  62.77% of my profit over the last year has come from just 3 events and they were very interesting and exciting.  The rest of the time was very boring.

Does it depend on betting strategy perhaps? Making .002% over every market, but massively consistently, must be rather more boring than aiming for a big % on specific markets, I suppose...?

winning consistantly on small margins may be considered boring by many, but nevertheless it wins.
taking risks, which is gambling ultimately fails although you will get a rush whilst your dosh flushes away.
your choice? boring or exciting i know what i prefer.

I think it probably varies from person to person.  I love betting, specifically the challenge of playing with numbers & probability, and of course the fun of cheering home your player/team.  So I feel as though I would still gamble if I was a billionaire, or (sadly) if I was useless as it.  Other people I know view it far more practically: it is/was a good way to make money and they can easily drop it for something else.
