bet placed on the golf - golfer gets placed and the returns are just over £1000
whilst out on my travels a week or so later i lost the ticket
within 10 minutes of me realising out the ticket was gone i went into another LBO of the firm and as i had a picture of the bet on my phone i made the cashier(who was with a manager at the time) ring the original shop and tell the manager not pay out bet number ********** under any circumstances as the customer has lost the ticket and he'll come back to the shop with his ID to get paid out"
all fine and dandy i thought....not to be....
i went back to shop where i placed the bet the following morning and was told by a member of staff that my bet had already been paid out. this cant be right i thought due to the phonecalls that were made to put a block on the ticket. I then find out the original manager had paid the bet out 45minutes after the phonecall he recieved...what is going on????
i made a complaint to the firm and an investigation was placed in to the matter and was told theres nothing they can do... if i wish to persue it i need to go to the police and claim theft against the person who found the ticket. i could of laughed at them at head office.
i made them investigate the claim again as they seemed to miss off a few facts first time around during their initial investigation like....the phone call made to the manager not to pay it out which is absolutely ridiculous. a shambles of an investigation from a so-called area manager
they're sticking to their guns though and wont pay out even though they are massively in the wrong. its my fault for misplacing the ticket i know but i went through the correct protocall in telling them to put a block on the bet.
can anyone offer some advice before i make a fool of myself in the police station and get laughed out of there for reporting a lost betting ticket?
I'd be playing the motive of the manager to pay that bet out having been told the circumstances to the hilt with the police. To an outsider (admittedly only getting your side of the story), it looks incredibly suspicious to pay that bet out. Who did they pay it out to? Is there camera footage?
I don't think the police will laugh you out the station, I suspect they may say there is nothing they can do though.

ive been on at the firm saying i want the manager investigated
theres CCTV of me placing the bet also CCTV of the bet being paid out and the firm agree its 2 completely different people
(ive seen neither...they wont give it up until the police are involved)
if the police wont do anything surely theres a case for me at a small claims court?

Surely they must have the slip unless their hiding something. Could be best to collect as much evidence as you can then go to a solicitor and get them to send a letter threatening legal action. Difficult to tell if its incompetence or Fraud by someone at the shop. Good luck pursuing it Paulie.

They won't be able to dismiss it until they have seen the evidence.
Premise: Could it be a friend or someone you live with that 'stole the slip'?
Also, you contacted the manager (have your phone records) and based inconsistent responses, you suspect the manager of defrauding (has it been confirmed that the payout was made with a slip? If not, perhaps a fast one by the manager).
The person with the slip could be a thief who stole it from you. it is equivalent to £1,000.
Tell the shop and the firm you are going to the police this evening to file a report. Ask for an email address at the firm of the person you are sending it to and say 'per our conversation'.
This is either a case of fraud or theft and the police should investigate on that premise.
