How do some companies get away with the behaviour that they exhibit? It is beyond belief. I deposited £1500 into my account and tried to place said bet on a 4/5 shot. No arb etc. I was told I could have £200. I then try to withdraw the remaining £1300 back and am told that it will cost 3%. That's not ideal but my own fault. However, I then get an email saying that the withdrawal cannot be processed and that I have to bet that money. Currently going ballistic with their hd but it is just an absolute farce.

I have done all the verification checks and the account is probably 10 years old. It is fricking ridiculous. Avoid these ****s at all costs.

Bwin have small max bet bets on everything these days.

Most bookies won't allow you to withdraw without betting through your deposit, for anti money laundering purposes I suppose.

Bwin have recently started to charge for withdrawals, but I think if you withdraw to paypal it is still free.

Turning over your deposit isn't that onerous.  Limits have always been £200 ish for UK.  There's plenty of good odds there.  Deposit a couple of quid by bank transfer and then withdraw the lot to bank after; should cost you about £1.50.

not sure how that would work ?

You deposit £1500 from your card - you withdraw £1500 to exactly the same card

Not exactly the most sophisticated money laundering scam ?

If you deposit by one method of payment it doesn't necessarily mean you have to withdraw by the same method. I've deposited to a bookmaker by debit card before and then made a withdrawal by bank transfer.

Every deposit and withdrawal you make costs the bookmaker money. If you deposit and withdraw without making a bet you're causing the bookmaker to pay money for nothing.

I'm no expert in money laundering so I wouldn't know, probably more to do with the fact deposits and withdrawals cost them money.

Part of the problem comes from bookmakers not clearly displaying how much they will take on a selection until you try and place the bet. If it was clear as some bookmakers are then it is your fault. The annoying thing here is that I have clearly tried to place a bet for the amount deposited and it has been rejected with a lower amount offered. I have had exactly the same problem with Hills before. By sending out emails saying you cannot make that withdrawal I suspect most users will take them at their word and bet that money until it is lost with said site. It is just another horrible horrible example of unethical practices that the bookmakers do and is never flagged up by any media.

FWIW having kicked up a huge fuss and threatened going to certain regulatory bodies I have been told I can now withdraw the money. It is just sad that it comes to that.
