If you want to play, say Manchester City to beat Stoke in todays game, why play Match Odds with 5-6.5% commission instead of Asian Handicap with 0.75%?
Pause Switch to Standard View Why not Asian Handicap -0.5 instead...

Cos most want to trade and not much liquidity in Asians
Report YOMOMMA February 22, 2014 1:28 PM GMT
They have the main Asian handicap page and a separate single line -0.5 Asian Handicap page. It dilutes the liquidity.

The promotion has not been well advertised as much more gets bet on European Handicap -1, rather than on the Asian Handicap -1.5 even though it is the same bet and the AH is 0.75%.

Still, one would expect traders and market makers (and arbitrageurs) to meet in cheaper markets..

I play Asian -0.5.  It is a job to get matched sometimes, yet there are people queueing up to bet on the match odds.  I do 3 goals or more instead of >2.5 when i remember.

Little or no point for regular pc payers with a decent discount, since implied commission also is 0.75%. 2% commission and 3% implied commission is preferable.

But I agree it's strange it hasn't attracted more people. Must be because of widespread retardation. There's an upside to that thoughGrin
Report jt45 February 23, 2014 11:35 AM GMT
Based on the PC Portal figures, the Implied Commission wasn't set at 0.75% at the last date I bet heavily in the Soccer AH markets (January 2014). It was set at 3% as normal as it has been since I first bet significantly in these markets in September 2013.

Additionally, PC Payers received an additional benefit in any Soccer AH markets in which the base rate was mistakenly set at the standard base rate due and the difference between that and the 0.75% rate later refunded. The charges generated were based on the amount initially charged in commission/2 as opposed to the corrected commission.

I'm not sure if it was you or someone else that mistakenly referred to the points statement as a guide to the implied commission rate. It never has been; in the points statement losing markets are settled based on the market base rate minus any customer discount where applicable (no discount applies in the Soccer AH markets).

* PC Payers received an additional benefit in any Soccer AH markets in which the base rate was mistakenly set at the standard base rate. Where the customer made a gross profit in any such market, the difference between the commission charged and the commission that should have been charged (i.e. the 0.75% base rate) was later refunded. However, the charges generated were based on the amount initially paid in commission in those markets as opposed to the corrected commission.

I inferred that it must be 0.75% from my points statement (nothing I have mentioned on this forum before though), will check with pc portal next time I have a losing AH bet. It makes a huge difference.

I do in fact feel a bit retarded for not having checked more thoroughly a long time ago Sad
Report jt45 February 23, 2014 12:19 PM GMT
If you review your points statement you will note that the points awarded for losing markets are based on the market base rate minus discount (as applicable) * gross loss * 10. That has always been the case, at least since I joined. The points statement has never been a guide to the implied commission rate.

Lose £1000
Market Base Rate: 5%
Discount Rate: 20%
Points = 1000*0.05*(1-0.2)*10 = 400
Implied Commission = 0.03*1000 = £30

Lose £1000
Market Base Rate: 0.75% (no discount)
Discount Rate: n/a
Points = 1000*0.0075*(1-0)*10 = 75
Implied Commission = 0.03*1000 = £30

Real Life Example:

P & L:

Soccer / Stuttgart v Mainz : Asian Handicap     25-Jan-14 14:30     25-Jan-14 16:22    -2,843.00

Points Statement:

25-Jan-2014    Fixtures 25 January / Stuttgart v Mainz / Asian Handicap     213    41,041

PC Statement:

Account Id    Product ID    Event Id    Sport    Event    Currency    AVG_FX_RATE    Gross_PL    Comm    Comm_Generated    Gross_PL_GBP    Comm_Paid_GBP    Comm_Generated_GBP
3950577    1    112462861    Soccer    German Soccer/Bundesliga 1/Fixtures 25 January  /Stuttgart v Mainz / Asian Handicap    GBP    1    -2843    0    42.65    -2843    0    42.645

(PC Statement was sought due to discrepancy with PC Portal and my own figures for that week)

Not enough money from the fun bettors is the answer.

Same reason people continue to bet here despite PC instead of going to bdaq or smarkets.

Show me a good API and I will consider it.
Report Mr.Anderson February 25, 2014 9:53 AM GMT
The thing that had me fooled was that the implied commission used for points calculation isn't the same as the implied commission used for PC calculation. The implied commission used for points calculation depends on the market base rate and your discount while for PC calculation implied commission is a flat 3% of net losses regardless of your market base rate and discount...
Report YOMOMMA February 25, 2014 10:18 AM GMT
They just make it up as they go along.
Report jt45 February 25, 2014 11:08 AM GMT
Yes, the use of two different implied commission rates for Betfair Points and PC purposes is a little confusing. As such I should probably correct the statement I made above:

* The points statement has not been a guide to the implied commission rate used for PC purposes since the date at which the latter rate was set to be a flat 3%.

The key point is that in the Soccer AH markets the implied commission rate used for PC purposes is set at 3%, whilst the base rate is set at 0.75% (no discount).

If a PC payer were to make a gross profit of £1000 in one Soccer AH market and make a gross loss of £1000 in another Soccer AH market, then from that betting activity he would make an overall gross profit of £0, pay commission of £7.50 and generate commission of £18.75 ((7.5+30)/2).

I've often expected the AH liquidity to take off for that very reason, although it doesn't seem to have happened yet. Am planning on starting putting some action that way in the near future as it is quite "tax efficient".

I just made a profit in an "Asian-0.5" market and was charged 5% commission. Do I have to write to them for my (£2) refund, or does it come automatically? It's a bit irritating that they are still getting it wrong, but, as jt45 pointed out, that just makes it even more tax efficient. By rights, AH liquidity should be going through the roof.

You should get the difference paid to your account tomorrow.
