I have a problem with a spreadsheet covering multiple worksheets. On sheet 1 I have the running totals broken down annually. All previous years are working correctly but 2014 is showing 0.00 even though the cell from sheet 2 is showing 93.52. I have tried using various different cells from sheet 2 but it still shows 0.00 except if I use the cells from previous years when it shows the correct amount from that year.  The formula I am using for 2014 is =sum(sheet2!i50) for 2013 =sum(sheet2!i31)

Try copying the cell format over, even if there's a direct link to the cell contents, it won't copy the original cell's format over.

Thanks Andriy I have done that and I am now getting 48.25 as the answer when the correct figure should be 93.52. It is only adding 3 cells at the moment but its not correct.Confused

Not too clear what you're doing from your opening post but why are you using SUM to sum up the contents of one cell? If it's just displaying the contents of s single cell why not just use =Sheet2!I31 rather than  =SUM(Sheet2!I31)

Thaks GJ I have done what you said and if I use i31 (2013 Total) it works fine. However if I use i50 (2014 Total) I keep getting 0.00 instead of 93.52. In fact I put 93.52 in cell i32 and it gives me 0.00

I'm still non the wiser where all these cells or formulas are being entered. Have you checked the cell you're sticking the data in to see that it's formatted correctly, just right click on the destination cell and select format cells then make sure it's formatted as currency or number. Do you have any macros on the sheet that could be affecting it? Is your sheet set to automatic calculation?

I presume this data for 2014 is the same workbook as the data for 2013 and it is all on sheet2,
if it is, on sheet1 in the cell where you require the result type = then select sheet2 and select cell
I50 which has the 93.52 in it click enter.

Does that fix the problem?

Ghetto Joe The cell is formatted correctly - its number to 2 decimal places
Compound yes that is correct and exactly what I am doing and it is still showing 0.00 on sheeet 1 I50 on sheet 2 is 93.52.
I have totals on sheet 1 for 2011,2012,2013 and 2014 on sheet 2 I have individual events with a total in the I column for each year. Previous years are showing correctly on sheet 1 but 2014 is showing 0.00. If I key in the sheet 2 cell for 2013(Sheet2!I31) in 2014's cell on sheet 1 it will show the total for 2013 but if I key in sheet2!i50 it shows 0.00. Hope this is not too confusing.

How is the figure in  I50 on sheet 2 being calculated? If you simply stick a number (no formulas just number or text) Does that data display OK on sheet 1 in whatever cell you've put =Sheet2!I50

No Ghetto. It stills shows 0.00 if I get rid of the formula and key in the amount

Google says:

World order is restored and an end to mass panic is obtained by clicking on the offending cell, pressing F2 and then Return. Well most

of the time anyway.

World order not restored. I tried what google says and still get 0.00

Sorry al may not have worked for you but I think it helped calm the situation in the Ukraine.

You could create a Custom number format, e.g. 00.00, and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for all the replies. I have sorted it now. I closed down Excel and when I reopened it I got an error message regarding the link to sheet 2.
Charlie although world order is now restored please keep an eye on the situation in Ukraine as it could erupt into something worse!!Scared

al

It's always good to know that a problem's been solved. I have a whole host of key combinations ready for Ukraine (and other countries) should they step out of line.  If you have a political concern just post and i'll give it to 'em.
