GL. Your downfall seemed to be rushing plus, well, chasing. Stocks go up, stocks go down. Idea is to have more good days than bad.

Recently took a hit early on a Friday with an in-play trade that went south on me. Made back a portion by just continuing with the day with the same risks I had intended.

Continued with some part-time as planned Saturday and Sunday on football. Then Monday, back to business still disregarding the loss. By mid-day Monday, was above the close on Friday and continued on.

So, in theory, little time lost on the journey.

Challenge Update:
While it was a profitable start it wasn't perhaps the way I had visualised it ... doing okay then a hit in horse race (wasn't going to get involved as I am more selective now

) while played in the rugby when I shouldn't have as well .... so ended up over-riding the greyhound bot and going hell for leather to get back into a positive position .... funny enough I was watching the MU game while doing this thinking should I get involved ... lot of thinking and watching but in the end I didn't (gee what control

). Also traded out early footy game for no gain/loss ... hope to let the bot do the work tomorrow.

Definitely not bet much on Aussie mkts nowadays

.... seriously though in looking at my results over the last couple of months (although I do tweek the bot settings/rules) have seen that I would have done quite well if I stop it at £150 daily profit ... so off it goes with a very nice run to make just over the £150 ... so stopped it and turned it to Sim only ... it won the next one so figured why not turn it back on only to be hit with the highest odds/max lay I have it set up (£105) ... and then I proceed to try and get my profits back to the level it was only to get a couple of more hits with the bot selections (however this time I go in a bit too big) ... down probably around £500 ... as opposed to be up around £230 .... yep I know I know ...

This is the nice run I had earlier only to then stuff it up (yet again) .... probably the most frustrating thing I have done for a while as well ... ah the curse of a new challenge

Undern, I know it sounds obvious mate but you already know your downfall with these challenges but its your failure to address them, that it your main weakness, from what I can see..its the greyhounds and your need to chase a loss.

I think you have the potential to make a lot of cash regularly if you addressed these two weakness points.

Ditch the greyhounds - There are plenty of other opportunities to make money, be patient.

Avoid chasing your losses - Like someone mentioned earlier in this thread, accept that you are going to lose sometimes but don't chase, just carry on trading/betting as you were and you should make up the difference.

I agree ... got to know when to get involved and when to let it go and continue along my merry way. I do think the greyhound bot has merit and will continue with it ... but need to bang my head on the wall each time I think about over-riding it .... been working very nicely over the last month so disappointed I feel the need to fiddle with it now.

Well ... this morning I have been playing (some cases very heavily) using the rest of the challenge bank in order to either blow it all or get back into a reasonable position to continue ..... lets say I had some ups and downs early and TBH was typing up a new challenge thread (it was going to be a monthly version) ... only to hit some nice wins and have continued this .... albeit reducing my liability as I go so not to waste all the profit made .... so yes I am still in this challenge

... will update now before the UK greyhound bot gets going this morning with the first lay coming up soon.

Perhaps yesterday's scare might finally trigger something .... but then again it hasn't done in the past. I want to do these challenges with a mix of systematic and off-the-cuff style betting which creates a bit more interest for me.

One thing for sure is I have no intention of playing much at all in the Aussie Mkts (only did it this morning to play catch up or bust) .... will update very shortly.

Challenge Update:
Yep .... a good start and I tried to think I can do better only to stuff it up and then chase on some greyhound and USA horse-racing before doing a make or bust attempt this morning in the Aussie markets in order to get back to a sensible position which would allow me to continue as if yesterday was all a blur

and secondly so I didn't have to close this challenge down to start up another today

.... definitely hoping for a solid days betting over next 24 hours.

Nothing like pure and utter guessing on the Aussie racing (well I do look at the money in the market and odds movements) to claw yourself out of a whole ....

Must admit I struggle to stop myself from playing for a bit longer ... played a couple more times on the greyhounds ... last one being basically a lay on a big fav using the profit I made today ... it was a nice £75 win but equally it could have lost and then I would have ended up being frustrated for the rest of the night having wasted todays profits ... got to stop pushing for that extra bit and be simply happy with whatever profit I can achieve ....

Having made a tidy amount on some of the bets placed since the last update ... gee even my lay of Aston Villa came in

... I find myself again up early playing in the Aussie mkts ... lets just say loss big and then won bigger .... might stop there before I get into the habit of taking on all low odds favs (although I do bet on other things as well) ....

What a fun morning ... the greyhound bot is set up and running (just hope it produces a profit) ... a couple of horse selections are also set up in another bot ... while I am watching the Curling on BBC online as I have a bet on Canada in the ip Women's match .... trying to trade out for a bit though .... what an exciting day it is turning out to be

Mmmm .... well I am happy but somewhat sad ... had a couple of nice horse racing lays which made some nice profits (I posted two of them on the Anyone fancy a lay thread in Horse racing forum) ... but in-reverse have had a couple of greyhound bot hits. Frustrating as prior to this challenge the greyhound bots had been doing lets say very well yet as soon as I start a challenge it decides to start accumulating some losses .... oh well.

Challenge Update:
A tricky day where things were going nicely but then greyhound bot suffered badly while I piped in with a tennis bet which lost. Played heavy on a couple of greyhound bets and did a lay of Arsenal in the footy ... I was hoping that I could let the bot do the main work and I simply pick up and choose carefully some extras bets .... but not working out like that. I can also see the benefit of picking a couple of bets and going heavy in those and leaving it for the day .... in my mind I am not clear on the best tactic.

So having been woken up early by my wife's snoring ... done the update, done some "odds" filtering to see if I can turn around the greyhound bot performance (going to trial someting today and therefore probably less bets), replied to some emails, printed out some documents and played around in the Aussie Markets .... love playing while listening to the 2KY radio online ... but got to make sure I don't get too greedy.

Current p&l for today is as follows ...

Aussie: Greyhound Racing: £111.51 | Horse Racing: £50.23 Total P&L: £161.74

Got things to do today so probably won't play much .... heaven for-bid the day when the daily update has only 2 or 3 bets for the day

If you aren't going to give up the dogs, then be more selective (i.e. what gradings does it NOT work on).

I discovered that in-running on horses over jumps, of 20 races I lost on from in-running, 18 were 2 mile chasers. 18! Thus, I changed my approach with those races and if certain criteria doesn't emerge as expected, it is no play. In general, when those races are happening, I am instead putting the time in to double-check upcoming races and profit there.

Nuff said but relying on a bot is great for Australian relations at best.

.... as for the greyhound bot ... I am trying to look carefully at some of the filters on the data I have got .... lets just say it is laying far fewer races today but still currently losing ...

Today has been nice and profitable - although there are some more greyhound bot selections which could cause havoc.

Played this morning in the Aussie mkts and made a profit although lost a bit from that last post. While I have let the bot get on with it in the UK greyhound markets .... was losing early on but coming back well late on and only once have had the urge to over-ride it to go in heavier (which fortunately worked out well).

I have played a bit on the horse racing - reasonably controlled staking and selections so happy with that.

Been watching Aussie soccer (Lost a bet on it) and the badminton (Europort) with my wife - went on and did a lay of Claudys Princess in the Ball 10:09 (Aus) trotting race .... little lay at 1.38 and then did SP lay for some more .... only to see the odds go out to 1.8 or so before the off ..... and it duely galloped early so right at the back (so did some greening quick smart) .... as it came back to come second I think ..... some dodgy market movements before the off I reckon .....

Well went in extra heavy on some of the first lot of greyhound bot selections .... luckily recouped some of the profits. Been out for lunch ... quite nice actually

and seen that the bot has continued the slow recovery. Without about 15 more "potential" lays it is currently in profit .... wow.

Challenge Update:
Damn tired from being up too late and up too early this morning. A very good day - wasted a bit on the Aussie footy this morning .... with the greyhound bot suffering a 1st selection loss (and I didn't help by getting over-confident and doubling the bet) came back strong .... it was set at £100 liability per bet and restricted the odds to a lot narrower range. As I mentioned in last posts was going in harder on the first lot of greyhound lays to help with some recovery from that 1st loss.

Supposed to be spending time with my wife tonight

... so probably won't play much tonight if at all .... also try not get too carried away with over betting/staking.

Busy with work this morning ... so only played a tiny bit in the Aussie mkts. Greyhound bot set up with morning/arvo (potential) lays hopefully it will have another good day. Heading out later as well and given things are (currently) going well will try not to overplay ....

It is funny how as soon as the challege moves along nicely ... I start to increase my staking a bit too much. Although some have been on odds-on shots so they aren't as bad as they originally look some have been a bit too much for the current bank .... got to back off a bit and simply focus on a nice progressive increase rather than thinking too far ahead.

I must admit my betting changes depending on what sort of mood I am in ... somedays I feel like taking on anything and everything while other days I like to be much more risk adverse ....

You seriously have to laugh at some of the the short priced favs in the TV greyhound races .... the fav (Trap 6) which went off around 1.53 in the 7pm race got directed out towards the nearest exit gate by the second fav. Trap 5 ..... what was turning out to be around a £50 overall winning day has turned into a lot bigger profit .... so much so that I won't be playing any more tonight

.... just a pity I was poor with the football bets.

I have done it in the past .... as soon as I have a bit of a run and build the challenge bank up nicely rather than continue with the small steady betting .... I tend to look at the low odds (favs) to take on (or the lays in the football which I rarely get correct) ..... done it again this morning but luckily it has only been a couple of bets which turned out okay ... at least I restrained myself from betting on anything and everything ...

Do you research these 'low odds faves' or is it a 'scratch card' approach?

Because with proper approaches, when successful, you build a confidence and understanding. Without it, it simply comes down to 'lucky dip'.

Having been hit three bets in a row (and I bet more than the bot had) it looked like the greyhound bot was going to make a nice recovery until it got hit again late on .... disappointed with todays results.

I ended up betting quite heavy (not all the time though) .... with a few ups and downs along the way. Thought a late on hit in the horse racing would put paid to any recovery but some late greyhound lays and a win in the FA cup footy ensured the day remained profitable. Challenge Update:
As I mentioned in last post - tough day - only helped by a nice win (could have been double the profit if I had not greened up) on the 10km speed skating men's race. After a horrid morning of betting (did go in way too heavy on two bets) ... it felt like things were going against me ... lost on a CS football bet which was going to come in and then Stosur in the tennis lost from 6-1 ahead in the tennis (did green up a bit) ... roll with the punches I guess ...

Must admit a day like today - you lose a bit of "betting" confidence and certainly a reality check on how I should be approaching this challenge.

Challenge Update:
After the pain in not being able to do an Aussie p&l report from yesterday .... finally a chance to update the challenge thread ... like I mentioned it was a profitable day but boy did it start off bad with a heavy loss in the Aussie betting although wasn't as bad as I thought it was .... played throughout the day and really only came back with a nice win in the Rugby ....

As a side note - it seems like I ran last night UK p&l report (last night) using the wrong times so the figs weren't correct. sorry. What I do when I run the report is look for the last bet time in the last update and use 1min past that time to run the report for the next update etc ... must have got it wrong.

Today's betting has started off well. There is a comical thing that happened this morning which I will explain in the next update (probably very late tonight) ...

Challenge Summary:

Bit worried that I have made other mistakes while doing the daily update reports so thought best to run a complete P&L reports for both the Aussie and UK markets since the challenge started till Midnight last night. Challenge Update:
Despite a couple of bumps - today was a very good one (probably because I hardly played the Aussie mkts) - and in the end I lumped nearly all of todays profits on the MU footy game while I was out and about. Back out again tonight so thought I'd update now (have left the greyhound bot on for a couple of TV races but probably won't get matched with the odds restrictions it has) ....

The funny story I alluded to earlier was .... I had a couple of emails go back and forth last night and this morning regarding the loss of Aussie Wallet from the P&L report section ... well BF kindly gave me two smallish free bets on the Sportsbook ... so used both on the ip aussie footy game (I backed a draw) only for literally within 5 seconds of confirming the home team scored to take the lead ... so two quick losses (these free bets) in a blink of an eye. However I did put a largish bet on another goal ..... and nicely does it a goal is scored late on by the losing team so in the end I won a nice bit of money ...

Yes you do seem to bet like a bit of an addict it is true. I know people have talked about your overstaking and betting on everything possible, and you agreeing with them but not changing it.

My advice would be for your next challenge (i'm sensing there will be one) is take your starting fund and split it in 2. Part A do your challenge in the same way as you have done all the others. Part B set yourself some strict rules which you can't break under any circumstances. You know sensible ones like only betting on sports which you know/are good at, not things like winter olympics, tennis etc. Limit your exposure on any one market to something vaguely sensible, say 2-5% of your total fund.

Run both challenges for a month/or until one fails.
See which fund performs better and by how much.
If you do anything that you shouldn't do with your sensible strict fund in that time then give up. If you can't play within the rules on that fund when you have another one available to mess about with then you are an addict. Give up and seek help.

Finally if you finish your last attempt with the title "the final chapter" the next attempt should really relate to a new book rather than a new chapter. I'd like to see a bit more thought put into titles of future challenges please.

Having done so well over the last couple of days .... I am somewhat frustrated with myself for going with a wrecking-ball late last night and while I was away for most of the day I tried ever-so hard to get some back which I did in part but then went further backwards. Done now so will try and move forward .... but really am pissed off with myself.

Challenge Update:
Lets just say I continued the back-ward step when I bet too big on another goal in the Boac Juniors football match last night (after doing the update).... yep it certainly lost and hence I found myself nearly back at the beginning of the challenge bank.

So today was all about playing a bit - although I fully acknowledge some bets are bigger than what I should be doing. Allowed the greyhound bot to get on with it. It had a good day while I bet more heavily on some of the earlier greyhound bot selections in order to help with the "recovery" ..... in the end I got back into a profitable position but a late "blip" on the Parma footy match tonight.

SHAPESHIFTER has made a good point U........but I would also suggest that late night/early morning FOOTBALL matches should also be binned.

Main reason being that after betting all day, you are more likely to get it "wrong" on such matches ( I speak from bitter experience!).......

From just recent results it appears that large LOSSES are made in the early morning games of FOOTBALL, then you start on GREYHOUND racing within a few hours of FOOTBALL stopping and your frame of mind is in "chase" mode.

The losses on FOOTBALL ( late games) lead to an early LOSS on GREYHOUNDS (Australia).......then it is an uphill battle for rest of day.

The USA HORSE RACING seems to be also part of the "problem"....starting with a LOSS then small bets ending up with yet another LATE LOSS bet at end of day ( the loss at start of bets shown also being AT THE END OF THE DAY....when tiredness sets in.

Again this period of betting AFTER some HITS on USA RACING and FOOTBALL looks like your tired betting continues....

Too many bets on too many sports ....with too long period of betting leading to tired bets and chase/over staking bets slipping in can only lead to big HITS and a BLACK SWAN day/night.

FOOTBALL is a sport where it is so easy to get it "wrong"...........and ,unless you have a real edge, taking on games at the end of the day/night possibly should not be bet on.

USA RACING looks more like a lucky dip type sport..............and I doubt your knowledge of this sport is as good as UK RACING where there are more opportunities to exploit an edge ( due to the wide range of GOINGS in UK).....so again LATE betting on this sport is dodgy IMO. ( Unless you have true "edge/s" with USA RACING !)

Beware "tiredness" after betting for long period......as you will make mistakes in STAKING and judgment calls on live games .............

It is not Aus GREYHOUND betting that is your weakness U.......but too long at computer and betting on too many sports when you are probably knackered............leading to you starting betting at say 9.00 am UK time with LOSSES from tired bets still in your heid!

Anyway ....by now you surely will change what you are doing , as no hope for successful thread unless you change etc etc

Yep I agree to some extent with what Shapeshifter & DFC have mentioned .... apart from my natural tendency to push a bit too hard sometimes and on too many sports .... the main thing which triggered some of the heavy-hitting was when I was perhaps too tired or focused on what I was doing .... late at night being the main culprit.

Yep I know I know .... while I will probably never completely stamp out some of the things which make the challenge that bit harder I am hoping to get into a daily pattern where I am more at ease with allowing things to flow rather than push too hard ...

DFC - while some of the betting I do in certain sports is certainly lets just say "sensible" guessing other sports I do look at very specific things ..... certainly my downfall is betting on selections outside these specific things (like many of us do I'm sure) ...

It was over on the 23rd when you lost £1300. Your mind completely went and you became a chaseaholic. Ironically if you had taken a step back and said hey look i've made 50% of my bank in 2 weeks you should have been pretty pleased with yourself, but you concentrated on what you had lost rather than the bigger overall picture.

All of your challenges seem to go the same way, you have a day where you have a big loss and then a few days later you've blown it all and challenge over. If you bet such volumes that you can make 50%+ of your bank in one day you have to be able to accept that you will have days where you can blow 50%+ of your bank. It's not bad discipline or bad betting is just chance. Until you can accept those losses and bet the next day exactly the same whether you've had a 50% loss or a 10% gain then it is less than likely that you will succeed. Sorry to sound harsh but I assume that when you set out on these challenges you genuinely want to win rather than just having some fun and not really caring about the outcome.
