Ok, here is the deal. I'm from Croatia and I'm spliting my betting between local bookers (for punting) and Betfair (almost exclusively for trading).
Locally, I have to pay 5% on my turnover (yes turnover, not profits) which makes any real betting extremly hard but somehow I managed to earn money throughout the years. Although the thought that I loose average annual salary because of those 5% makes me sick. According to our new law that will soon be passed, additional 10% tax on winnings over cca 200 euros will be implemented (higher taxes on higher winnings are already in place). After that I will have to cease with any serious punting. But to make things even worse, local internet providers will have to block access to all bookies not licensed in Croatia. Because of the size of our market I'm quite sure Betfair (and other bokies for that matter) will not apply. So to my question...if I assume for a moment that Betfair will not automatically block my account due to my residency (and I have no idea how realistic is hoping for that), will VPN do the trick?
I apologize for the lengthy intro. Still pissed (and sad) about prospect that years of experience and knowledge might soon come to end just like that.

VPN's work for some companies not all. There's a lot more to it. Times are a changing...

Update from this morning is that they will not tax only winnings from 200 euros, they will tax all winnings. Oh happy days :)

There is discussion on forum.hr so you can join. Assuming Betfair or any other bookie don't ban us as Croatian residents what problems we can have except blocking IP that are easily solved with VPN.

Certainly, that is funny attempt from our government.
