Agree totally re the discipline. Most people won't have the patience or wherewithall to continually chip away getting just £5 or so a day. And to be fair many won't find it exciting enough. It's the different personalities of people that help an exchange work.

To some extent true, to some extent complete and utter bs.

Depends how, where and when you're making £5. Far harder to turn a few pennies scalping over an exposure of at most five seconds, into several pounds; than say making £5 with +EV to turning that into £50.

Report U.A. • December 23, 2013 12:58 AM GMT
People don't do it because of poor discipline, people don't do it because of time management. Yes it is technically easy to do, but how easy is it to do at a decent hourly rate.

How long would it honestly take you to earn £5 each and every day. Minutes or hours?

Possible to make 2k in a year but not at £5 a day, that is not

You can make £5 a day pre-off with very little risk most days. Saying that you'd struggle to do it on the football with the offerings today.

Report G Hall • December 24, 2013 11:22 AM GMT
Some misunderstanding here,£5 a day is overall daily profit, including winners and losers, and I would imagine a high percentage of people on here lose money each year, but I don't have percentage figures, but obviously not everyone wins.

2K a year would be a godsend to the losers. To be exact it is £5.50 a day that is required to achieve it, but a fiver illustrates the point well enough.

£14 a day over ten years equates to 50K,a not inconsiderable sum.

Scaling up from an average profit of £5 a day is very difficult, if it was easy everyone would be doing it because someone has to lose for the winners to win.

Ken

I would be looking at betting in the range from 3/1 down to 1/4 approximately.I would be comfortable trying to win 2% daily of my bank,in that price range.

I am not suggesting trying to win 5 with the first bet,eg if the first bet is 1/3 I would be looking at say 6 to win 2 etc,or 5 to win 1.65 that sort of thing.

I am looking at suggestions that will enable me to achieve long term profits,so that maybe after 2/3 years I can take 40/50K per annum. However the strategy will be the same as if I was trying to win £5 per day.
Report kenilworth • December 27, 2013 3:01 PM GMT
GH, even betting to win parts of £5 can go wrong, 1/3 chances get beaten
every day, and after backing, say a 1/3 loser you would then be faced
with perhaps £15 + £5 (£20) and so on...
I guess it is possible to win an average of £5 per day but there will be
days when things go badly wrong, then decisions have to be made, it wouldn't be
for me. GL.
Report G Hall • December 27, 2013 5:05 PM GMT
Well I am not talking about a martingale type strategy, and just looking back at my posts,I should have said an AVERAGEof £5 a day,as it is extremely difficult to avoid occassional losing day/s.

A losing bet would not usually be recouped on the next bet,but again over a few bets, provided DISCIPLINE can be maintained.

On a day like today you can make £5 with very little risk taking advantage of wrong prices. It's not fun and many people who post here would call it pointless and lets be honest it is a lot of work for little reward.

I think you are being a little silly for arguments sake. On the off chance you are being serious you are limited to the amount of money available at the wrong price, so you pick up pennies on each market. It all adds up and you'd be very unlucky not to take over £5 a day.

Report ilikewavingatbuses • December 28, 2013 11:03 PM GMT
there will always be an element of risk but i disagree everyone would be doing it if it WAS possible because I know I could maqke 5 quid a day  and yet i am still a loser overall because thats not what im trying to achieve, i lack dicipline, as do most on here no matter what they say.

gamblers should not be thinking in terms of 'a day' either, as there may be days there is no bet but as i said if we are talking about 5 quid the martingale system will work of your bank is big enough. I would never advise systems and i dont believe in them tbh but if u had a bank of 10k and laid every fav in horse racingeveryday until you won 5 quid more than u started the day with i imagine you would achieve this goal rather easily.

If you wanted to win more at a time then u would start to get in to the trouble.

bank size is the key, can u handle loss after loss after loss until u hit.

I'm hoping that betting in "units" is the answer - bet so many units a week, hopefully make a profit, and then increase the size of the "units" rather than changing the staking or approach

Could work here as well - mind you, I'm actually punting not trading, scalping, etc and looking to make money each week - on average - rather then each day

Report Still standing • December 29, 2013 4:03 PM GMT
It can be done.  The biggest problem, without a doubt in my mind, is chasing a loss.  Making a fiver a day for 20 days, then taking a loss of 75 on a bad bet makes a guy do silly things.

Making 2 grand a year averaging a fiver a day is really like making 4 or 5000.  Making 2 grand means you aren't losing 2 or 3,000 like I guess most people on here manage to do.  Of course I'm making some assumptions.
Report DFCIRONMAN • December 29, 2013 4:39 PM GMT
Unfortunately have to agree with K.....that EVERY day making a profit appears difficult if just betting not trading in respect of HORSERACING.

The losses will come some days.....even having the best system on planet.

If you just restrict your "target" profit to £5 a day ........you are not taking advantage of edge/s you possess, reaping the rewards of VALUE bets.

You have to stick to betting strategies that work well enough to grind out profit regularly enough to make over all profit. With consistent STAKING for each strategy a profit should be made IF you have sufficient edge/s within your system.

The fluctuation in PROFIT and LOSS from race to race have to be that generally when you win on a race your win amounts are far higher than the bigger loss amounts.

Do you want me to put the selections up for you as well?

As above, I think you are probably trolling and I'll fall into the net on the off chance you are being serious.

If you have a market where the price is clearly wrong(50-60% of certain markets) you clear the cash at the wrong price. If you want to guarantee pennies you give it back before KO.

I'll give you an example from the weekend..
Saudia Arabia v Palestine was trading at least 10-15 pips over the true price on the overs market. The game finished 0-0.

Under 2.5 Goals    *    1.66    69.09    Back         45.77
Under 2.5 Goals    *    1.61    69.09    Lay         -42.15

Pennies, but pennies add up.

Report Darlo Bantam • December 29, 2013 8:40 PM GMT
Pennies, but pennies add up.

Quite. There are say 20 horse races a day, dozens of greyhounds races, dozens of football matches, tennis, basketball, cricket, etc, etc. Each has side markets.

Just taking horse racing, £5 a day, is simply 25p a day. It's not hard at all to make £5 a day. It's a question of whether that's all you want to do, and whether you can be bothered to try make just a few pennies on a market and then move on.
Report CJ70 • December 29, 2013 9:02 PM GMT
Indeed. I'd even suggest you could make £5 a day offering impossible outcomes if you have live pictures although that market is saturated I would have thought.

EB - Due to a death in family in 2011, then I opted to look after 88 yo mother( then) with various health and age related problems. In 2012 then had major operation, which went well, but my energy levels have been pretty low for most of 2013. Also some technical problems that I have had to work my way around, although I'm stuck with having to manually input races in order to use system.

With personal circumstances knocking me sideways, and with low energy levels in 2013, then I have concentrated on other betting strategies for the ratings ( already had devised strategies for top 5 favourites that work well when applied to rated races) in 2013.........all the time hoping my energy levels would improve.

So now have 10 new betting strategies, from the further analysis of all rated races using the system, as well as the betting strategies for attacking the top of market.

I will be using "system" in early January with a few selective strategies that should work well in that month.

No time for FOOTBALL bets, as I don't have an edge and  will need all my time and energy to operate the system etc , as well as look after 91 yo mother!

It is all very well having devised a complicated "system" .........it is devising betting strategies that consistently "work" at different points in season for AW, TURF and NH ( mainly BACKING strategies) that exploit what the system was devised for......assisting to find VALUE bets. Analysing results for rated races , then checking out various strategies has taken years to get to this point.

The delay caused the last 3 years by personal circumstances probably has led to me being far better prepared to use the "system" with betting strategies devised the last 3 years, than if the sideway kicks had not happened..........So whilst I regret the events that have happened the last 3 years, the "system" has stood up to detailed checks carried out and I am now feeling mentally tougher, though physically may struggle a bit in my circumstances to operate the way I should be operating!

GL all with bets/system devising and health in NEW YEAR......Cheers the nooooooooo
