There has within other threads; just not much of it.

Can't speak for the Spanish footy, but the impact it's had on rugby, first week aside, has been pretty minimal.

agreed - there was a lot of money around during the first weekend but that was during high profile international matches and from memory there was not much football going on either.

Since then levels for run of the mill games have been no different.

As someone said before, they will probably conclude that pc makes no difference to liquidity and scrap the waiver.

I thought it was introduced to entice a specific person or group back. No evidence of that though.

Still, it's nice to keep all the blood you can squeeze from the stone in the meantime.

Curly - That was what my account manager told me.  The bottom line, at least on the peripheral markets, is still that there are no backers, and, thus, there's not a lot of point in any of the big layers sticking competitive prices up...  On the rare occasions you do lay anything, you're invariably stuck with it!

As someone said in the 'PC must be scrapped' thread, the goalposts have shifted completely such that it is now very difficult to go into an event with the mentality of a trader.  You REALLY have to make sure your bets are EV+.  Where there might previously have been trading value in taking a poor price in the short-term, that isn't necessarily the case now.

Are these markets automatically exempt for everybody, meaning that I would have to contact them to be excluded from the trial?

John - Per yesterday's PC newsletter:

As you will no doubt be aware already we have launched a trial to see if by removing Premium Charge from all Primera Division and Rugby Union markets would we see an increase in activity. This is on a trial basis and should it prove successful we will look to extend it and potentially open it up to other sports.

The trial runs until 1st February 2014 for Primera Division and 1st June 2014 for Rugby Union. Winnings, losses, commission paid and generated will be removed entirely from your Premium Charge calculation and never appear on your Premium Charge statement.

If you wish to opt out of this trial please contact your Account Manager.

Terms of the trial

• All markets in the Spanish Primera División will be exempted from Premium Charge.

• All Rugby Union markets in all countries will be exempted from Premium Charge.

• The trial will apply to bets on markets in which all runners are fully settled between November 13 2013 and February 1 2014 for the football, and November 13 2013 until June 1 2014 for rugby.

• Winnings, losses, commission paid and commission generated on these markets during the trial will be removed entirely from your PC calculation.

• Activity on these markets from before the trial will continue to be included in your lifetime figures.

• Markets bet on during the trial will continue to contribute to your market count.

• If you would like to opt out of the trial, you may do so at any time in the trial and your exchange activity for the rest of the trial will be included in your Premium Charge calculation.

• Once opted out, you cannot opt back in to the trial and any betting activity before opting out will not be subsequently included in your Premium Charge calculation.

• You may opt out separately for Rugby Union and/or Primera División.

• Unfortunately, the trial is not open to customers registered in Australia or New Zealand.

• Betfair reserves the right to opt out any individual or end this trial at any time.

FAQs

Will charges or losses from Primera División / Rugby Union reduce my Premium Charge bill?

No, the activity will be removed entirely.

At the end of the trial, will any activity from these markets count be reinstated the lifetime position?

No, the activity, when removed, will never appear again in your Premium Charge statement.

Will this trial be extended to other sports / leagues?

We will be regularly reviewing the results and may decide to extend the trial or add in additional sports/leagues.

thanks tommy

so according to that ,if you make 5k on the rugby for example ,it won't show up as part of your lifetime  gross profits  shown on the chart as 'Gross PL'  and will neither show up on the 'Markets '?

played on the Spanish football markets today ,and they seem a bit lacklustre - a real job to get bets taken at market value  Plain

i'm just hoping that these markets haven't gone past the point of no return .

Can't see many reasons for anyone to participate in these trials, tbh. Betfair have continually shown their only motives are purely selfish and would no doubt re-introduce PC charges if those markets ever became successful. You'd be much better off seeding over at the Lads exchange if you wanted to create self sustaining markets without the threat over PC roaming overhead.

Once your acknowledging the possibility of the distortion of the exchanges effectiveness, and ultimately profitability, by the super tax, could this be the beginning of the end for premium charge? Are we observing  a mere blip here or something more significant?

fwiw i've made more money on rugby in the past six and a half weeks since the trial started than i had in the previous 20 weeks (which had been very slow going on the rugby). not sure if this is because of increased liquidity. i haven't made a big shift to concentrating lots more on the rugby but may have been encouraged to do so marginally at the expense of betting on other sports going on at the same time.

Baby Jesus ,all my profits come via La Liga - so it's worth it for me

it's effectively betting without the charge for me ,as i'm not too bothered about English football or Racing -  too bad it's their winter break in that league Sad

Hope it's here to stay

They are not guaranteeing that they will not charge PC in the future.
