Bit of an odd question but plausible i believe. I have an unmatched bet on a football match starting tomorrow. I'm going bed soon so when i close my browser and shut down my PC, can the bet get matched in my sleep?

WTF.  After over a decade on here, I still don't understand why a guy would come here and try to get people to answer.  What a laff. Is there a secret club for wind up questions, like, a big prize if you get responses.  Here's a response Dr Kim, go and fukc yourself.

Sorry guys this isn't a joke. Up until now i have only been a backer, never traded. So 9/10 times my bets have got matched.

If a punter falls in the forest, does anyone hear him scream?

Dr Kim, your unmatched bet will stay on the exchange until someone else puts in a very which will match it.

Nothing to do with your computer or browser etc

*A bet, not a very

I'm not so sure about that, JL.

I have had the experience of having an unmatched bet cancelled in my absence. I think it might happen on horse racing sometimes if there's a significant development, such as a hot favorite getting scratched late. Betting gets thrown into confusion, the market gets suspended temporarily and unmatched bets get cancelled.

OK, yes, I probably over-answered and there are exceptions.  Events going in-play etc, and

"What happens to my unmatched bet on a horse if there is a subsequent non-runner?"

and maybe others.

I should have just said:

"can the bet get matched in my sleep?"=> YES

Whether your browser is up or down, or your computer switched on or off, will make no difference to whether the unmatched bet stays up - strangely, Betfair doesn't have the faintest idea what your home computer is doing!

Assuming nothing happens to cause existing bets to be cancelled, your bet will remain until it has been matched, or until the betting has finished - in the case of in-play sports, you might have to tick a box in order to have the unmatched bet left up when the event goes in-play.

iirc the only time pulling the plug seems to help is if you've submitted a bet which prompts a warning (odds > 95) and realised it was a mistake.
