Following yesterday's results announcement the shares have risen over 5%.

I can't see enough exchange growth to keep the markets happy.

Can the Sportsbook step up to fill the void with all the competition out there?

Not for me.

Time to short.

SELL.

Great timing for this thread, according to service annoncements the sportsbook has completely crashed tonight and not taking any bets LaughLaugh

Cost savings mean higher profits. But how much more is there to go with them going forward until they change the business model and reduce advertising spend?

Terrible revenue figures. Sportsbook is a complete and utter disaster. There is no other way to dress it up. A year on it is generating peanuts compared to exchange even with the high amounts that have been pumped into developing and marketing. Still non of the promised best execution enhancements. How long does it take to write an api script to link the two together?

Games terrible also. Well down. Blamed on withdrawl from foreign markets. Like the sportsbook very competitive market where stupid amounts are spent marketing to generate diminishing returns.

The exchange well down. Not blamed on pulling out of foreign markets. Drop not nearly bad as expected on those markets. Guess why this is.... because the exchange is your USP. Its your business. Its the thing you excel in.

£100m spent a year marketing Betfair. Mainly thrown at sportsbook that is tiny. The goodwill betfair has lost since 2008 must be costing them tens of millions of year in free promotion by their customers.

Why not cut your advertising budget, focus on the exchange 100%, and make more money? £11m revenue in a half a year on the sportsbook. It must be hugely loss making if it had to stand on its own two feet.

Any indication of how Betfairs' purchase of Blue Square customers and their subsequent free bets are shown in the sportsbook revenue?

The figures are designed in such a way its impossible to tell. They give revenue by sportsbook, exchange, games and then by sustainable and unsustainable.

But they give costs by sales and marketing, technology etc rather than splitting it by sportsbook, exchange etc.

£100m a year to be spent on sales and marketing and £75m on technology but no information as to how much of that £175m is spent on sportsbook (which only had £11m revenue for half a year).

Even ignoring the exchange the drop in games revenue has more than wiped out the tiny improvements in sportsbook.

1117 now after a -26 day. Any views? Do you reckon the price will return to the IPO price soon?

Listening to the analyst conference call the other day I noticed the exchange was barely mentioned. Its all about the USA and sportsbook. Isn't the exchange the main source of revenue still? Maybe I am missing something.

It will be interesting to see what the ITV gold package over the world cup advertises.... the exchange was its £56.7m last quarter revenue or the £9.5m revenue sportsbook?

Quote from article.
Selling out would be an about face for Betfair, which has failed to profit from the Australian wagering market, despite it proving to be an attractive opportunity for its British peers.
Dublin and London-listed Paddy Power was the first British operator to make an Australian foray, when it bought out Matthew Tripp's pioneering online site Sportsbet. Mr Packer could derail the return of Mr Tripp, who just this month announced he would be returning to the online bookmaking sector with a new website Beteasy, fresh from a non-compete period after the Sportsbet sale.
William Hill has splashed the most cash of the raiding operators, buying up Sportingbet, Centrebet and Tom Waterhouse's controversial operations.

BUT.The hard fact.
But the venture is so far a long way from delivering a return on investment for shareholders. A $1.6 million loss in the 2013 financial year was Betfair's sixth loss in seven years, taking the balance of losses to $47.3 million since it began operating in 2007.
