Phil Rowlands is edging closer to his third event win of the year. In his last two appearances he's finished as runner-up losing both finals 2-1 in the tie-break set. He's playing well of late and it's the best I've seen him play in the calendar year. It's such a difficult group today but if he can advance from the group stage he has a real chance.
Wayne Willgress appears to be getting back to his best. Probably because the outdoor season is coming to a close and is starting to find some rhythm indoors. Wayne was impressive on his last outing on the 20th August and narrowly lost the final 10-2, 1-11, 2-0 to Danny Brown. He also picked up a 5-4, 6-6 win over former world number one, Greg Harlow. The opening game against Rowlands is key if he's going to finish in the top 2 today.
It'll be interesting to see how the bookies price up Mark Dawes in each of his games today as he's always over priced. Dawes has been one of the standout players in the Super8serieS and continues to impress. Statistically, Dawes is the 4th best player in 2013 winning an impressive 63% of his games played. You'd expect him to go all the way today.
It was another good performance from Les Gillett on the 19th August. He finished in second place for the third event in a row to a 2-0 tie-break set defeat. Gillett is the form player going into today's action and you'd expect him to make another final appearance. It's all about whether he can hold his nerve and not make it four runner-ups in four events.
