I was wondering why a market gets suspended before it goes in play?

Another thing I don't understand is why the race winner market is suspended during the qualifying of a grand prix?

I believe it is so they can cancel all unmatched bets.

I thought that but sometimes it seems quite a while?

That seems the most logical reason?

Another thing I've wondered is this...

Sometimes it seems as though some people have got access to the odds even when it's suspended?

It's just the way my bets get matched sometimes?

Knowing me, I've probably got this totally wrong!

Haha I'll just keep on asking more questions! I'll see if I can make it 100!

No seriously, I've just come back from a long walk to get my head around Flipkins losing, and had another thought...

I hope this doesn't sound too ridiculous but I was wondering if the start of the "in play" time varies from bookie to bookie or does it come from one source. Like the official SP in horse racing?

I don't have Sky and can't watch a lot of sporting events so when I see "in play" I presume that something is happening???

Do you mean that sometimes the odds seem to change during the market being suspended?

That's probably just due to people cancelling bets, which you can still do when its suspended.

sometimes you get the illusion of that happening using the website, sheppy.

I would really think about investigating some kind of API based interface, such as geek's toy or gruss. you get a much clearer idea of what's going on. gruss is 6 quid a month, geeks 20 quid a quarter or 60 quid a year. there are others.

Thanks guys for the help, it's much appreciated! As time goes on I feel the need to learn more and more. It's like, the more I know the more chance I've got of winning money!

cdog - I had horse racing in mind. I've noticed that after "Suspended" has disappeared some of the odds have changed significantly and I've been matched straight away. Maybe they're using software that beats the delay, I don't know??? Yes I've cancelled bets when "Suspended" has popped up during a football match. I always think that someone has scored but often they haven't! I don't know why it's been suspended when nothing has happened??? I've heard a lot of moans about this!

viva - I've actually tried the Geeks Toy and phew! I couldn't understand it! It seems very complex and I'd love to understand all the features cos it does look like a powerful tool. One of the reasons I started using it is cos I thought I could beat the in play delay but apparently you can't. This would be a dream!

The battle for making money continues...

The web site I believe refreshes things on a timed basis so lets say it was every 5 seconds, worst case you might see the state 4.9 sceonds after suspend came off "in real life". I remember on the web site sometimes in very very important periods sitting hammering the refresh button.

Seriously I think one poster is a moderator with a host of usernames who tries to drum up activity on the forum with useless drivel and questions.

Seriously,

Laugh if betfair really wanted to generate forum activity they wouldn't be banning new users.

Bob you ask the same questions over and over again and seem incapable of taking on the information you are given. Viva like most, probably just got sick of it.

New username or not it's the same questions over and over again, with the same answers and persecution complex.

3sp - I didn't really lose anything. I would've got a lot (for me!) if she'd have won the tournament. When she beat Kvitova I thought she had a chance?

Flipkins - more like Pipkins! Hartley Hare could've played better than she did yesterday!

yeah, you didn't get much of a run for your money out of flipper yesterday. tbh I was surprised you could lay her as low as 8.4.

Hi viva! Because of the complications of betting using Bookies and Betfair I found it difficult trying to decide whether to lay Pipkins or back funny Bartoli.

I ended up doing both! I layed her @ 8.6.

I find laying a lot more psychological! It's not a pretty sight seeing how much money I have to knock off my winnings!

I have this problem a lot with golf. My player is doing really well but if I lay him and he wins I'll be gutted!
