Hi everyone

At present I`m living in the UK and i dont know nothing about the fastest TV connections to do trading. I was advised to go for Virgin or Sky but the problems is, I dont know which is the best?. Can I find an analogic TV box instead of digital as its faster, quicker.

Could you please advice me?

Thank you very much for your time and attention.

Regards

i wouldn't bother at 8 secs, unless you want to trade £3!
Report tiagus April 1, 2013 2:59 PM BST
But sky or virgin its not good to do trading isnt it? But so, how the proffs can trade in UK if the only service is sky or virgin?
Report southcoastvillain April 1, 2013 5:08 PM BST
Sky is a few seconds ahead of Virgin

everyone stopped playing when they messed about with the delay,8 -9 secs just a joke
Report tiagus April 2, 2013 5:19 PM BST
And which games can we listen to the  radio ? And italian and spanish games? How they doing? The (proffs)
But listen CONOR, 8/9 seconds is for everbody, so you dont have to worry about this. My problem is the delay between another traders and another countrys. Do you understand?
Report donny osmond April 2, 2013 5:48 PM BST
newcastle local radio was approx 9 seconds ahead of tv for europa league game in russia

no goals were scored so i have no idea if the suspend would have been quick enough, but i guess
betfair dont get analog radio coverage of radio newcastle

i have a radio that can pick up some foreign games on medium wave

As for 8-9 secs is for us all,yes every one understands this.B ut since they in there wisdom changed from 5 to 8-9 every market has gone downhill,DO YOU UNDERSTAND THIS.Isuggest if you are clueless as to what the fastest connection is,forget it. DO YOU UNDERSTAND.

8-9 seconds is the only sensible delay on football.  Those who say otherwise are either:

1) happy to hoover
2) happy to be hoovered
Report CONER April 3, 2013 7:08 PM BST
8-9 SENSIBLE,Its that sensible no one is playing now, gone downhill rapid since they went from 5-9.Must be the worst 10 or so weeks ever for turnover, how much lost commision has it cost betfair.Match odds and under over goals just pathetic now.

So , what i have to do is waiting for that games in ITV... or betfair video or radio :(
Its sad. In another countries we have a lot solutions because there are some TV boxes without HD. so there isnt delay like here(england).
Report southcoastvillain April 10, 2013 4:54 PM BST
Your best bet if trading from TV would be to get sky and pay extra for sky sports and make sure you watch on a non HD channel

Sky sports is around 5-6 seconds behind real time

Can not belive how stupid betfair were for years, they had a 5 sec delay and loads and loads of players, plenty money changeing hands, lots of com generated.
Now they have become sensible,no one plays no money in the markets, hardly any com generated.
Share price a joke, company has a terrible name due to many factors.BUT THEY ARE NOW SENSIBLE.
Well i bet the shareholders wish they were not .

So I think its good enough. For me doesnt matter if i watched the game in real time. I think until 10seconds is fair. People can doing money with this delay, but over 20 second forget trading.
Another question: CONOR, But for betfai doenst matter if you win a lot money or not, they receive always commission. So, i dont understand why 5sec, or 50 sec is not the same for theme.
"You just don't expect that sort of thing from the forum elites on general betting"ShirleyKnot i didnt understand. Do you expect put my doubts in another topic?

You could argue you are being hoovered with a 9 second delay.  30 seconds to go in a match, I want to lay 1.05 on the result.  9 seconds later when my bet hits the market either

a) Nothing has happened and the true price is 1.03 but my bet gets matched at 1.05
b) A dangerous freekick is given, true price is 1.07, my bet may not be matched because the 1.05 backer cancels the lay.
c) Goal is scored after 5 seconds, my lay would have paid but doesn't because the market is either suspended or the backer has cancelled the back

So whilst in cases you'll pick up backers money a large delay isnt necessarily better

What is the difference between Sky / virgin? I know virgin is more slow than sky but why?. Both them use cable? or sky is not for cable?
Report ShaneESP April 13, 2013 8:41 AM BST
sky is mainly dish, Virgin cable.

Don none of the scenarios in your a-c, unless I misunderstood, are hoovering in the context of this thread, whilst all of course possible the main protection of the delay is preventing being hoovered after a goal but before the suspend.

Spanish football especially was/is notorious for this. I (and I'm sure I wasn't alone) stopped leaving money up in Spanish football solely because of this.
Report DonNo1 April 13, 2013 3:10 PM BST
They aren't hoovering in that sense Shane but it's questionable whether a larger delay actually benefit standard users.  Protection from hoovered from a goal but a lower chance of striking a value bet
Report bingo bongo April 13, 2013 3:28 PM BST
DonNo1 spot on, and I think this is why 8-9 seconds has become the standard delay. Its not just suspending for goals - 5 seconds should be long enough for most matches - but also to protect the market makers from people betting using radios or at the match when theres a free kick, breakaway etc.
Report U.A. April 13, 2013 3:46 PM BST
If you want to place your 1.05 lay of the result on with 30 seconds to go then start putting the bet on with 39 seconds to go rather than 35 seconds to go. If your sitting waiting to see a dangerous freekick or breakaway before placing your bet, you'll always be too slow whether it's 9 seconds or 5 seconds if you are watching it on tv.

but there is cable in Sky? im asking because in england there are a bad weather and sometimes tv be off.
And If sky use cable will be the same time delay virgin?
Report tiagus April 16, 2013 1:23 PM BST
non HD channel in virgin is a good solution ?
Report Gin April 16, 2013 2:39 PM BST
Tiagus – ShaneESP has already answered your question, Sky services come via satellite wheras Virgin comes via cable. If your Sky (satellite) pictures are affected by local weather then the Virgin should remain “up”.

I have both side by side so am able to compare – a few years ago, Virgin changed the way they received their Sky feed. Overnight they went from being a couple of seconds ahead to the current 1.7 secs (approx.) behind.
Report tiagus April 16, 2013 3:02 PM BST
Ok, some words i dont understand. So if my option is Sky, i can use BOX SKY +,  instead Sky+HD and Sky+HD 2TB.
If my option is Virgin i choose any basic virgin TV Package ( without HD)
Because the delay is in HD, correct? If a channel havent got HD is faster, correct?
Report Gin April 16, 2013 3:13 PM BST
Both the systems I am referring to are Standard definition (SD). If you get an HD box from either Sky or Virgin you still have the option to watch it in SD which is ahead of the HD version.
Report tiagus April 16, 2013 3:46 PM BST
So Gin, in my situation, what is the best solution for me? what is your advice?
Thankyou
Report Gin April 16, 2013 3:56 PM BST
Assuming you are just looking for the fastest readily available Sky Sports pics then get a Sky satellite dish and system installed and watch in SD.

There is the chance of occasionally losing your picture if there is a storm directly above you but this has only happened to me a few times over a few years and generally only lasts for a few minutes at most.
Report tiagus April 17, 2013 8:44 PM BST
Thank you ver much Gin. I'm going to follow your advice. So, i have to tell them , i dont want channels and boxes in HD but in SD. Correct?
Report Gin April 18, 2013 11:51 AM BST
As far as I am aware, any box you get will have both SD and HD channels anyway – however, I can only speak from my own experience regarding the boxes I have. The best thing for you would be to check with them.

Another caveat – I spoke earlier about Sky sports being faster through a sky dish rather than Virgin but have no idea how the delays stack up through other platforms like BT Vision or TOPup TV. Perhaps somebody else has experience of these and can comment?
Report tiagus April 18, 2013 9:31 PM BST
Have you got Sky, and are you happy with them? Can you doing trading with sky?
Report Gin April 19, 2013 9:25 AM BST
As mentioned earlier, I have both Sky and Virgin.
Report TheInvestor2 April 19, 2013 10:19 AM BST
I still trade large amounts even if I only have the ridiculously slow Sky feed. You can't act on the information quickly like you can with a fast feed, it's only useful to get a feel for how the game is panning out, rather than making snapshot bets.
Report tiagus April 19, 2013 2:28 PM BST
So the only way to make scalping  in football is for bet365 video or betfair. But the problem is we are limited. Because we dont have premiership where are the money. :(

Fücking good job too.  Anfield has always suffered from hoovering - obviously someone in a box at the ground.  Has been picking off the markets for years. But no longer.  That goose laying the golden egg has had its neck yanked.  I hope the thieving barstewards now continue to lose everything.

Been 9 seconds on all football I've noticed recently. From the high-profile to the obscure matches.

You will have two channels to watch sky sports 1 HD or SD. SD will be better for you as it will be a few seconds ahead of HD. It's possible to watch SD even on HD box
Report lurka June 23, 2013 4:16 PM BST
tiagus hd or sd box is the same, get hd and you can watch sky sports in hd (slower) or you can change channel to the SD version (faster). Stop asking which box is faster, it is the channel you watch which is faster and you can watch both on the HD box.

i wouldn't recommend trading with sky or virgin pics, they are simply too slow. but if you are going to do it then you should use the 3.65 ticker and follow the match on that too, that will give you info (free kick, corner etc) quicker than sky pics but analogue radio is even quicker again
Report tiagus June 26, 2013 9:56 AM BST
