Surely this must be a security issue? The website can't be that glitchy to always be going down? 3 out of 4 weeks now its left me in a bad position on markets.

Betfair will never give us an answer either as to the reasons behind the site crashing...

This is the reply I got from Betfair regarding the last big Saturday outage.

Thank you for your e-mail.

The error was caused by one of our server boxes to start showing error messages, in order to fix this our IS teams carried out a rolling restart rolling restart of all the affected server boxes which restored service.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further enquiries.

you had to email THEM to get that information? they didn't make it public for their customers to see? Or if they did I must have missed it.

I got pissed off with all the outages and emailed asking what was the problem and that was the exact response I got.

Thought their IT department might of come up with some explanation or technical jargon but instead they decided to let the office junior reply.

For an organisation of this size, they perhaps have to be one of the worst organisations for customer service I've ever dealt with.

There are currently no reported problems with any Betfair site.

Posted on their service site, after they provided the link from their home page.

They've cancelled series 5 of the IT crowd. They could just stick a camera crew in Betfair on a Saturday.

THEY'RE MAKING IT GO BACK IN!!!!

Three times in 1 day, actually remarkable. I didn't realise a organisation could be so poor. Laugh

I can't believe Betfair didn't clear the in-play markets ,but just left bets up to be hoovered.

Did they? That's just bad.

I know I had bets cleared but I'd put in multiple panicing requests to clear them so ... maybe something "took".

investor of course you can believe it. This is betfair we are talking about, management is absolutely horrific.

Just Checking, maybe it was only keep bets that weren't cleared.

Keep bets are also supposed to be cleared before they reopen markets after an outage.
All bets, both keep and normal, were cleared in the golf markets during both outages.

Maybe investor. Maybe. Given BF love clearing bets in play for no good reason it would be hugely irritating if when they had a good reason they didn't :)

I know in the past they DID screw up in this area (downtime, came back up, hoovering, a fiasco) so they SHOULD be very careful about it.

But as I say the bets I was screaming at the monitor to be cleared WERE cleared this time, that's my tuppenceworth, so in that area I didn't personally see a c0ckup.

I'd say Eagle is also right. The thing about a keepbet is the user still always has the chance to either cancel or un-keep-bet it.

If there's a downtime, they get that possibility removed so the could also be screwed.

My bets that were not cleared by Betfair were on the Levante v Sevilla over/unders markets. I got £7k+ matched before manually cancelling the rest. The potential loss if this was to re-occur in the future could be tens of thousands.

Were they hoovered just as the market reopened or were they matched in the beginning of the outage where in the past people sometimes have been able for a while longer to access the markets through either the API or a mobile phone ?

I would contact Betfair, if not for a refund(if you lost due to this), at least to get an explanation.

yeah, I've contacted Betfair already Eddie. The bets were taken after the outage when the site was back up.
