General Betting

I won a bet with an online firm, they paid me out I withdrew the money. Got a recepit for the withdrawal and then a few hours later they said they had made an error my bet was over when I backed it and they cancelled my withdrawal and offered me this explanation. Just wondering weather anyone thinks i've an right to pursue getting paid or if it's hopeful at best

'Bets are accepted up to the off-time of the event or a pre-determined time whichever the earlier. ***** ***** reserves the right to void any bet inadvertently accepted after the betting has closed or where the event was resolved or at a stage where the customer could have any indication of the outcome.'

Just their rules don't state they can cancel a withdrawal in fact they say Note: Withdrawals to Debit Cards can take between 2-3 working days to be processed, they can take up to 5 on occasion. This delay is while your bank processes the transaction. The funds leave your account immediately.
But they were somehow able to cancel mine after withdrawal and a receipt? now if they came after me for the money that's something else but I didn't think they could legally just take it from me post withdrawal

Who are the firm and did you know the fight was underway/finished when you placed your bet?

obviously the bookie is within their rights to void if its already underway or over but you just wonder if they would have refunded if the bet lost

Fights not what i'm disputing what i'm disputing is that they say the funds leave the account immediately and they let me withdraw the money gave me a receipt and hours later their able to take it back, even though they state it leaves the account immediately and any delay is the banks proccesing, how can they touch that money? hours later

Even if the money has already hit your bank account and you have since withdrawn the money from that bank account they can still reverse the withdrawal and claim the money back without your approval. Amazing but true.
In your case they didn't even send you the money which you weren't entitled to anyway. Just because someone sends you confirmation that a payment will or has been made doesn't mean they are legally obliged to then pay you. |

They may claim the money back, but if your account is a zero balance, after withdrawal, they would have a hell of a job to get it |

The account was zero after withdrawal and they got it back, I got an email a few hours later informing me of this. With an apologies for any inconvenience caused and a message i could tweet them if i'd any other problems. They say the money leaves straight away and any delay is on the parts of the banks, which clearly is a lie

Not true. I know somebody who went in the region of £25k plus overdrawn on his current account after a betting firm claimed back a payment it had made to him a few days earlier. Sabu businesses say they will make payments every day and don't go through with their promise. It's common practice. It wasn't even your money anyway. |

CLYDEBANK - what authority do they have to do this? If its that they have your bank details, because they have paid money in previously, then its a scandal. If they can legally make you go overdrawn, incurring bank costs, then its tantamount to theft.
If betting firms can do this so simply, then no wonder the real fraudsters can do it so easily. |

birch2 I don't know what authority they have to do it and it surprised me that it was possible. They sent him an email before they took the money back saying they were going to take it, but he mistakenly assumed since it was cleared funds and he had transferred the money out they wouldn't be able to do so. The first he knew about it was when the bank rang him and said he was £25kish overdrawn and asked what was he going to do about it. A couple of months later the bank said they were closing his current account and that he should find another bank, saying they didn't want to deal with professional gamblers. As it happened he'd just quit gambling, which was kind of ironic.

If you cancelled your account straight away would they have a recourse? i can't see how they can state your funds immediately leave your account then do still have access to it
