Unfortunately, I think sweetchildofmine is right. take a coffee, sandwich and a good book.
If a friend can drop in, have him walk in with a pad and pen and start interviewing you then say he's a journalist.
Tell them to use western union.

Small bookie shops don't keep anywhere near 3k. Either take a cheque/have it credited to a debit card if that's possible or wait a day or 2 for them to go to the bank.

I was actually told in a Laddies shop, when staying away, that they didn't want to take my bets as, if some won, they wouldn't be able to pay out for days. Goodwood week, it was, only doing singles..

darkie returns, yes I've heard of security. But Ladbrokes haven't; they only have one member of staff up until 12 noon and then again in the evening.
All bookies used to have two members at all time for security reasons, and if someone had a big win they could go to the bank. But they've cut back (Corals staff even now clean the bogs).
They just don't care: if someone has a big win just make them wait or send them way somewhere else. Remember, you're a big inconvenience if you win.
Btw, got paid out in Hayes on Saturday morning - 25 minute drive and big ag to park.

Quite common to be on your own til an hour before the first in the old settling days. But always at least 2 for closing. As I said if they havent got the cash, security should bring it next day.

They're trying to fob you off by the sounds of it, I don't buy the whole security thing, they're companies whose sole purpose is to deal in money all day long, take money, give money, take money give money, take money.....considering they take more off punters than what they dish back out, I'm pretty sure they have your 3 grand, last time I collected a similar sum from the crooks was when simpson win the open, I went in first thing when it was quiet and empty and no problem, they handed over what I won. I went in to central london though, different from the one I placed it with, go into theses skanky backstreet shops and you never know whose eyeing your winnings up for themselves. Unsavoury characters are there first thing ready to spunk their dole.

The law is what you agreed to when you placed your bet ie. the terms and conditions posted in the shop. They say:
"Payment of winnings Winnings will be paid on production of a valid betting slip (receipt) at any Ladbrokes shop. For security reasons large amounts of cash are not held on the premises and Ladbrokes reserves the right to pay winnings by cheque either in full or in part. The majority of bets can be paid out immediately, but in rare cases, there may be a delay of up to three working days whilst the validity of the bet is verified".
They also state the obvious which is that they can kick you out of the shop if you're being a pain.

Betting shops still get robbed all the time, so will always keep cash in shop to a minimum.
You should always ask for a part payment to tide you over & collect the rest some other time.

I had a ton on a 5/4 winner last night. Went in this morning had another bet for a ton, then presented my winning slip. They didn't have enough to pay me.

Betting shops don't carry that much for security reasons but should be able to give a cheque, although in this case I think they may be checking the security. Depends on the bet as much as anything, if it is a lot for a small stake they will definitely be checking it.

donny, I was in betting shops for many years and occasionally someone had a decent win, perhaps a yankee, maybe a footie acca that sort of thing, problem was at times we never knew when he was going to come for the cash, and I was not going to leave, say 2K in the till on a Monday morning when the guy might not come in till Thursday afternoon! As I knew most of them, it wasn't a problem, as I left a cheque for him or cash at a time to be agreed. I never had a problem.

i dont expect to pick up cash at that amount straight away
but if i go in on way to work, they've never failed to have it at 5
your arrangement seems fair enough but cheques can be such a hassle with banks these days
