Hi am enquiring on behalf of a friend who had an internet account with a major high street bookmaker. He tried to access his account a couple of months ago to find it locked. When he rang to ask what was happening they told him they has closed his account. He then asked if they would pay him the balance, they said they would if he provided proof of identity to them which he did. Since he provided that information over a month ago.
They haven't paid him.
They haven't responded to his e-mails.
They say they are in the process of dealing with it when he rings them but nothing happens.
What are his options? It is not an unsubstantial amount of money and all his winning bets are legitimate.

Do you know which bookmaker it is?

Or would you rather not say?

I could say but they would probably get the thread pulled.

plenty of threads slating named bookies are left up here , don't think Betfair are bothered

Is it a Euro Bookie and your mate is in the UK?

Or other way around?

That is normally the case with these protracted verification disputes.

No british high street bookmaker though all bets were placed online, nothing suspect or dodgy just backed plenty of winners.

He had the account for about a year he told me he clicked for a bet max 0.00p so didn't bother, had a few ante post to run it wouldn't let him log in. When he rang they told him he was closed but since then nothing.
I will fill in the blanks in the fullness of time until then is it ibas or the gambling commission? or go straight to a solicitor?

sounds bizarre, if it's a uk firm absolutely no reason why they shouldnt pay the winnings, especially if he's sent his ID in. have they given a reason why they havent paid or they're just fobbing him off with it's being processed? if that's the case then just keep hassling them, no need to go all the way to Ibas as from what your posts on here say it's not a dispute as such, they've just shut his account and havent refunded his balance?
unless they've said a reason why they wont pay the balance just badger them, could be lazy customer services, although i sense i may be missing something and it's gone way past that?!

Letter, recorded delivery as proof of receipt. In the letter state the time period in which he wants to receive his money before he takes further action.

It is bizarre you are right, Ive had an account with them (now closed) but its just like they are sticking two fingers up at him. I think they may have linked him to me and are thinking phuck him, but they were his bets. I only advised him on what to bet in return he was advising me on something else.
Its the arrogance which gets me, the customer service guy says its being dealt with, first said on October 16th repeated Oct 30th but not one response to e-mails, he tells me he has sent 5 without response.
Will advise him to do the recorded delivery through a local solicitor.

Personally I'd have contacted sportsbookreview.  Legal action a last resort

Send them a sh*t in the post. Not your own (or his) and don't put a senders address on the back.

It won't help btw

I am astounded that so many still bet with UK "bookmakers".

They aren`t bookmakers, they don`t even trust their own odds compilers on big, liquid markets like European Soccer.

What a joke. Into the bargain they feck you around when it comes to collect as in the case described here.

There is no reason to deal with this scummy filth.

Pinny & 5dimes are real bookies + there are a couple of exchanges around. Why on earth does anyone give these filthy UK "Bookies" their $$ ?

because a lot of the other books don't cover the sports we bet on

Hi on Clydes advise rang IBAS and SBR the money was in the account within 24 hours. It was Ladbrokes and the bets were mine, but its their tracking procedures which didn't pick up on it until I had taken them for a few quid.
Having been caught with their trousers down they should have just had the good grace to pay up, but they chose to make things as difficult as possible for "my friend" to withdraw his winnings.
All they've achieved apart from to cause me some inconvenience is to blacken their name in a small town Thirsk (where my friend lives)as he is telling anybody and everybody how Ladbrokes wouldn't pay himLaughLaugh

While bookies spend millions on advertising and promotions, falling over each other to attract new business and get punters to bet in different ways and on different products, they seem oblivious to the way info is shared amongst punters nowadays. Forums and Twitter abound with the worst kind of publicity a bookie can have, fostering distrust which no amount of advertising can undo.
