I will not be using Betfair ever again. Great odds you say. I lost money on here due to 5% commission and if I want to have a big bet and deposit I get charged 1.5%. If I had bet with a normal bookmaker I would not have lost $300 and the odds were not any better. Betfair is great odds, or any better than a normal bookmaker? I don't think so.
Betfair is better than any particular bookie, but not better than all other bookies combined. So if you want to have a bet on a team to win a match and you can be bothered to compare odds, you probably won't get best odds on Betfair after 5% commission.
However Betfair usually is better than 'the rest of the world' when it comes to betting at longshot odds. Things like a 3-2 correct score, a 20/1 underdog in match odds, or backing over 6.5 goals at 70.

It's also the case when betting at evens for example, that if you place 1,000 bets of £10 and win exactly half as expected at fair odds, you will pay £250 on a turnover of £10,000 for 2.5%, that's because you only pay on winning markets.
A bookie has a margin of perhaps 7%? Remember that Betfair's margin on a 5% commission payer is 2.5% rather than 5%!
