yeah I used to bet like that when I was 18-19 lost loads got bored and was very naive at a young age. put hard work in studied a bit came back and now purely price play and not predict outcomes that's the way to go if you've no mathematical edge like me. I make a few hundred a week consistently on football it's kinda boring but I've nothing better to do as I live and breathe football and betting :)

i do have good runs but its seems that there are evil spirits hanging around me now and then , just not producing one more goal or even one more point, those are the ones that set you back, so even if you do win you are only getting some of what you lost.

i bet mostly for goals to be scored ,after all thats why they are playing ,you would think so anyway.

i actually like waiting untill half time , if no goals bet on the one or more goals but just seem to strike those  nil nil games too often.

there's no evil spirits mikey it's just the art of gambling. personally I find it much easier to gamble on a price movement and to sum things up if you  are not getting value u will never make money. the over/under market can extract value but u have to know what your doing.

i actually reckon i should take a complete break from all this , square up everything in the dollars department and just completly chill out ,gambling is not breaking me but then its also not making me, you do get stale as in all things and gee low and behold ive just won a goal bet in china lol, so may reconsider lol

I really don't know why more people aren't winning.  The winning formula is simple.  Get value.  Everyone should be able to do this.

You probably want to win too much compared to your actual turnover .

7% is massive over say , 300 bets .

I have a 89%  on the horses in the win market but only 8-9 bets per month and short odds been doing this a year using % of my bank it's just wanting for the bets to appear

If your system or style of betting doesn't work long term and you don't enjoy it then why are you still doing it. Do you feel that although it hasn't worked all this time it's suddenly going to come good.

Either stop doing it completely or try betting in a different way. Moaning about it won't increase your profit or enjoyment.

Good luck.

Ive no doubt there are some that do win , either small or big in some cases, even i have good runs but seem to end up going tits up, i do more betting on 365 , because of the options in play live, rugby and league are good, here i just bet on head to head and goals........ive had times when ive pulled in over a grand in the weekend only to find things go awol after time, by doing nought different.........thats why i think taking a break for a while then reacess things.

But then sometimes im just as happy by betting just a few bucks for fun now and then, its just a case of weighing up ones options aye.

and as is always those that win big sometimes probably lose big as well , simple fact aye.

same old story , when i put just a few bucks on the argie game before for that 1st goal true to its word it wins , but as soon as you go big , you get four shots that hit the crossbar, three that that hit the upright and a goalie who makes a miracle save , aint that a basterd aye lol

I've lost every year on Betfair so far and before that I lost at the bookies. I have started to turn things around on the Spread Betting after 14 years and 15k down last year was my first 1 in profit and again this year I'm in front. I think this is because my sellf discipline has improved, I found that a lazy bet on spreads would cost me a lot of money. Don't you think that a lot of our unlucky bets happen in events that we have not studied enough or not sure about the bet? In the past on a busy Saturday like yesterday I would have been betting on Rugby possibly 4 or 5 games whereas I waited for The Grand Final and then when that was over I avoided the later RU International.

I have still yet to transfer this discipline to Betfair but due to the fact that I have never had a bank I've just used my current account money. I have now put in place a system where I am adding £100 a week and any profits above the £100 at the end of the day I transfer onto another account. Seems to be working for now.

Simply, yes. When I first started I was erratic, betting on things that caught my fancy and losing caused me great anguish. Now I am much more laid back, stake more than I ever have without giving it much of a thought and I make more than I ever had before.

Once you know what you're doing, it's barely any work. For me it isn't, anyway.

My advice is stop trying to beat the bookies at what they are masters at, just abuse the times when they have clearly messed up.

Oh and, it's not 'lots of money' by any stretch. It's a nice bonus for a hobby.

i have 2 months off a year always june and july and always take a family holiday in cornwall and dont buya paper or log on at all during these 2 months august and september are quiet months maybe have 150 bets in the period but 70% of my betting is national hunt especially in running on heavy ground as thats where i enjoy most success also use certain trainer stats built up by my own hard work and not in public domain and do late goal lays late on in premier league matches where goals have already been scored.used to try and trade tennis matches but didnt show any worthwhile profits and really wasnt my thing although i do know people who do really well at tennis.since cutting out the tennis and upping stakes by a third i win
around  £ 85 a week but i will say my risks against this figure are tiny so will be upping things again in time for first cheltenham meeting..i used to trade out a lot for an all green screen but nowadaysleave a smallred instead and play EXACTA an
d place markets and this has started really well as have had 4 of my last 11 EXACTA bets come in one of those paid £176.10 icome onto the forums when i am bored now instead of trying to trade obscure tennis matches and moved onto night shifts recently in order to be around more during he winter jumps also i appreciate my money a lot more now as my shifts are 10 ours long and pretty grim sometimes so discipline has become more important regarding my balances.ibet on here and hills credit and bet365 and cant remember when i last had to put any monies into any of them.had only one bet this weekend as i have been busy at work and catching up with sleep etc but it won at 13/8 and i got 100/30 so am buildingmy pot slowly but surely

Interesting comments by 1 or two ppl here ,i know im probably trying to win too quickly perhaps,[zealot]i do get good runs but just dont seem to last at it although alot of my bets in last few days were unlucky as in alternative points in rugby[bet365] that just missed and soured my interest,i know it takes time  but sometimes ive had runs where ive pulled in a few hundred to a cple of grand very quickly then i get those not so good runs.

Building your bank is like a test cricketer building an innings by chipping away, but here is a question id like to know ,..........when punting say on sport what do some ppl believe to be good odds , as in under 1 50 or over, obviously the larger the odds the better your return if you win but probably the lesser chance of that bet winning or is chipping away at odds under 1 20 good safe going.....remembering that you cant get 20 percent on bank deposits , probably not even 10 percent , do many of our big winners over time bet on over 1.50 or maybe 2 bucks, when you start getting over there then you just hoping for luck really i reckon.

Mikenz - I saw a post from Zealot on another thread (which I copied on my own for reference) which I thought was quite interesting.

I think one key thing when trying to grow a bank - is to learn to enjoy winning £5 as much as winning £100 ....

i spose i may have just answered my own question aye i do know that on the new zealand tab just about all of the really big punts happen on live in play when the result is looking pretty clear, most times under 1.10......i see moonaxed is  making say 85 pounds a week and considers that to be doing ok, i know if i stop rushing i could achieve that easily, probably more too its simply up to ones own discipline at cutting out some of the stab in the dark punts

well undern  there are a lot of tennis matches when getting near completion that are there for the taking , i see one guy here one night sat and waited on a game to work out who was gunna win, then i think when odds got to 1 03 or something he banged on it, after getting some flak from others for betting at such low odds he did explain that he won enough for his groceries for the week , seems logical really.

andy murray on saturday was at 1 57 when i punted on him , kinda thought he would get there , that just hacked me off , then the two **** games that went scoreless, kinda deflated me .
Hence the thread in the first place.

it still dosnt do any harm though to take a break though , it can do ya head in spending lots of time online here and there , win lose or draw.

Mikenz - I won't give away too much but when I look at horse racing my main focus is that they are 'athletes' first ... they are trained, they go through plateau's in progression, recovery periods, priority races/periods, some do better/worse dependent on how the race is run etc ....

You can transfer this to any other sport you bet on including tennis ....
