couldnt agree more. im paying 40% and have tried to move some of my business over but the lack of in running
oppurtunities because of blank screens or just bots flashing on/off make it so difficult to bet on there. |
|
By:
Exactly, for in-running especially, people stay here because they can get matched. For them it is better to stay and pay PC on something rather than go elsewhere and get 100% of nothing.
BF know this and have the game by the balls at the moment. No doubt it will change in future but until some new inspiration comes along very little will happen. Copycat BF sites will not change the landscape. |

im still baffled about the lack of negative publicity in the press tbh...there was such a fanfare when betting tax was abolished yet people are forking out 40% of their winnings..
|
|
By:
yes but betting tax affected everybody, PC affects a handful
|
|
By:
I'd say a handful is underestimating it, but it doesn't affect loads either.

The liquidity on the other place is fine now. It's building up great in the win and place market.I play there now do to PC charge
as it's impossible to make it worthwhile on here. The word is worthwhile. Why spend all your valuable time on here when you can use that time more productivly elsewhere. The PC charge was designed to stop winners betting and it's worked.Would have been easier to ban them. |
|
By:
Is there any worthwhile in-running activity over there yet pmbets or is that not an area you are involved in?
|
|
By:
The in running acivity is still poor. But for betting laying before the race its identical to here within 10 minutes from the off until they are off.
This applies to the win and place markets.I have noticed a significant increase in liquidity in all areas even american racing is fine now. There has been a sea change and it looks to have real positive momentum now. |

I'll be back at purple as soon as I can get their api to work with Delphi/c++ builder.
|

By:
I bet on golf mainly and pay the premium charge (20%). The liquidity across the road in running is poor compared to betfair. As this is where I make my money it is pointless shifting to purple.
If everyone switched to purple then yes it would be great but it isnt going to happen any time soon. |
|
By:
MW2008, surely you pay 40% with the new pc?
I have to admit the purple site is getting better and better as far as liquidity is concerned, it looks like the trend is on their side now. |
|
By:
If every Betfair custome moved to the purple that site they would impose a premium charge. 1.01, certainty.

No certainties in this world, no moves. I should know

IT SEEMS THAT THE P C TAX IS UNFAIR, POSS UNLAWFUL, UNETHICAL,AND UNREAL A FIRM CALLED BETFAIR INTRODUCED IT.
PERHAPS ONE DAY THEY WILL HAVE TO REFUND JUST LIKE THE BANKS DID. |

thats not a bad shout coner..the bit about refunding by law

I agree with earlier poster, if the purple site filled up with punters to even half the amount on here, a higher PC rate would soon be implemented on purple site.
The thing is (and Im not pro 40% PC charges) but anywhere there is money to be made, a tax or commission of some kind always comes into play. If you traded the FTSE 100 or stocks online, you would be handing over a chunk of your profits to the online platform company who were making your trading positions possible. |
|
By:
^
good financial traders making hundreds of millions often pay less than 30% of their GP in trading costs though, and here we are with our modest profits, handing over 40-60% |

The purple already have a very fair charge where is very very easy to be charged low.
Purple has all the momemtum now.INSIDER INFO:- It's really starting to work well now. |

Charging higher prices to those customers that need your services the most is just sound business sense.

purple will hike their charges if, and even when the time comes ,they'd be stupid not to

It's a testament to Betfair's dominance and confidence that it employees from the rival firm come on to its forum to shamelessly spam. |

I have been checking out matchbook, which has plenty of liquidity on top matches. A direct comparison of a match tonight is:
MBk BFr Benfica 6.841 6.51 Barca 1.58608 1.57 Draw 4.3165 4.135 They charge 1% commission, and had more money available on Benfica than this site, at the time of writing. My guess is that it will be less good in running. |

I've been using Smarkets 2% for prematch bets and loving it. My only concern is having a large balance there as I don't know how financially secure they are. Wouldn't be pleased if they went under and took my dough with them. Betfair is the best for in play trading but prematch better is available elsewhere.
I might have to open a matchbook account when I get a chance, 1% sounds too good to be true. |

Charging higher prices to those customers that need your services the most is just sound business sense. - Johnny The Guesser
It's called Ramsey pricing. As for why we don't all move across the road, not all of us specialise in football and horses. Many markets in other sports are not even offered in-running, and so we have the option of winning 100 here, and paying a tax of 50 (in my case) or not playing at all. So it becomes a question of what is the opportunity cost of making that 50? Having taken the hit four years ago and continued to play for the 80, it's likely I will continue, but changing the rules with no chance of a reset leaves a sour taste. As someone else pointed out, (mislaid the name): The problem is that it's based on how much you've made in the past not about how much you'll make in the future. Imagine you'd been in your job for four years doing the same thing earning 60k a year. The government taxed you 20% of your earnings, then announces that anyone who's been doing that job for four years or more will now be taxed at between 40% to 60% depending on how good you are at your job (the better you are the more you get taxed). In the meantime, someone else joins the company, does exactly the same job as you, but only gets taxed at 20%. |
|
By:
Football and horses might be improving on purple but the rest are no different from 2 years ago.
For in-running there really is little alternative and paying 50% really grates, but it's still the best option....just. Pinny have really stepped their game up and I've probably moved about 30% over there and would dearly love to make it 100% Matchbook was a real viable alternative a couple of years ago, then they banned all their US customers and it obviously died in-running. Hope it picks up there again. |

everything is going very well on the other side .Very happy and improving all the time.

So...
by definition all PC payers are long-term winners. So add up the annual winnings of the PC payers you think would move over to the Purple Place and see if you seriously think they have losers depositing that much for the winners to take? |
|
By:
hi curlywurly, hows it all going?
im paying 40% myself and earning miles less than i used to. can i ask who pinny is? |
|
By:
looking on the net, im assuming its pinnacle sports ?
|
|
By:
yeah that's right callataxi.
longbridge, the idea would be that if enough big winners moved, the prices could start to get better on another exchange, which would attract fun bettors away from Betfair. I think Betfair would seriously need to mess up for that to happen though as by definition the fun bettors aren't all that price sensitive. They may have heard you get better odds on Betfair than with the traditional bookies, but they almost certainly don't shop around, preferring instead to do everything in one place. For Betfair this is both a strength and a weakness. Strength: It's very difficult for another exchange to poach the retail customers (even with better deals such as lower commission). Weakness: It's also difficult for Betfair to get the retail customers betting with the traditional bookies, despite the fact that Betfair offer better value most of the time. |

thks investor. i do try the purple site as much as i can and before the event stars its fairly easy to
get a bet matched. the trouble is in running it becomes a bit of a ghost town with just a few bots flashing on/off with very little chance of striking a bet, thereby meaning i have to go back to here to attempt to trade my position. |
|
By:
why cant i bet on here grrr i want to bet on footy and if win it 40 to up to 60%
millions missing bets from 3 years ago is now in trillons today that betfair lost out in fun bets ok i want to bet cant i am not good at maths but see grab of 40 to 60% every weds on evens that a only on my beloved team to win |
