Challenge Summary
Well after taking some heavy losses in my previous challenge (which ended up down around £1.75K) I decided for my final £100K I will at least start with a nice and controlled way .... although it probably won't last .Seriously though - going to play a lot less and perhaps remind myself smaller wins can be equally as enjoyable as big wins. Also need to trade a lot more than I did last time. Saying that I had lots of 'real' work during most of the day so that helped as well ... Mikenz - if I get enjoyment with what I do then that is all that matters ... remember I do have a very nice business which pays me nicely ![]() 04/09/2012 1000 05/09/2012 1033 UK Mkt: Greyhound Racing: £3.39 | Horse Racing: £20.63 Total P&L: £24.02 Greyhound Racing Showing 1 - 1 of 1 markets Market Start time Settled date Profit/loss (£) Greyhound Racing / Sund 4th Sep : A3 450m 04-Sep-12 18:18 04-Sep-12 18:22 3.39 Horse Racing Showing 1 - 4 of 4 markets Market Start time Settled date Profit/loss (£) Horse Racing / Good 4th Sep : 1m3f Hcap 04-Sep-12 18:20 04-Sep-12 18:27 5.09 Horse Racing / DownP 4th Sep : 2m5f Mdn Hrd 04-Sep-12 18:00 04-Sep-12 18:05 2.91 Horse Racing / Good 4th Sep : To Be Placed 04-Sep-12 17:50 04-Sep-12 17:56 9.41 Horse Racing / Leic 4th Sep : To Be Placed 04-Sep-12 17:20 04-Sep-12 17:29 3.22 Also currently have all-green profit of around £9 in the Ferrer tennis match but it is currently raining so play is suspended. |

Hi Undern,
Good luck with your challenge!! I have just gone full time on Betfair from 1st September although been part time trading for about a year. A lot of time invested in research, testing thinking you are on to something then realising it could never be quite be that straight forward!!!!!. Anyway your post has stimulated me to join you in the 100k challenge (in an encouraging not competetive way). I have started with a 3k bankroll and will post my daily and running P&L figures and happy to post any other details if of interest to anyone. First 5 days trading are as follows. [b]1/9/12 Horse Racing: £231.83 | Soccer: £70.03 Total P&L: £301.86 2/9/12 Soccer: -£34.25 Total P&L: -£34.25 3/9/12 Horse Racing: £438.74 | Soccer: -£416.78 Total P&L: £21.96 4/9/12 Horse Racing: £38.11 | Soccer: -£23.33 Total P&L: £14.78 5/9/12 Horse Racing: £278.26 | Soccer: -£62.09 Total P&L: £216.17 Running P&L £520.52 The strange thing is I normally have more success on soccer than the horses so a weird start. Lets hope it's a case of how long it takes to get there as opposed to how quickly i lose my bankroll!!!! |

elitesp,
Fair dues to you for making your mind up to go full time, not an easy decision given the economic climate and the uncertain future of how things will proceed on here. Your starting bank is smaller than most would start with but this can be overcome by working to your strengths and sticking to two golden rules, patience and discipline. It may take you a while to see progress but if you adhere to these rules you will eventually reach your target. Undern would be the first to admit that discipline is often his downfall but he has the comforting cushion of an outside income which relieves a lot of the pressure people face when relying on working on here for a living. Wish you all the best for success, will keep an eye on the thread to monitor your progress, well done on your first five days trading. |

Hi Cork,
Thanks for your reply and very sound advice. I am in a position to have a larger bankroll but i do want to test myself on the point you wisely raise on discipline first and know that i wont chase too hard on the bad days. I don't believe i will but want to be really confident. I think it is easy to think you can keep your emotions in check but the reality is often very different. I also appreciate that it is very difficult to make consistent long term profits trading on Betfair. Whilst relatively new to trading the one thing i will do is listen and learn from others where possible and clearly learn from my own mistakes which i know their will be many!!!. I am committed to making a success of it (and have really been researching and testing for the last 12 months) but i know that won't be any different to many others where only a small percentage actually make it work. Anyway thanks again for the reply and encouragement most appreciated. |

Good luck 'Undern' and others. I've started my final challenge this evening over 3 sports for 65 days. Starting bank of £600 split over the sports. No target and I'll see where it takes me.

Had a phone call the other day .... and tbh was expecting to be in Sydney for the next couple of weeks .... sadly she (my Grandma) passed away the day before I was going to fly out.
Must admit I am quite sad and actually partly shocked ... having lost my first Grandma a number of years back while I have been living in the UK I promised myself that I would make sure I was around when my second one was nearing her end. Too late ... and perhaps racked with guilt for moving to the UK all those years ago .... .... |

Cheers. Bit hard not to feel guilty but there you go. I do fall foul many a times of looking too much in the past which my wife frequently picks me up on. Perhaps watching Eastenders with my wife or more frequently phoning my Mum are things that should have a touch more importance.
Something that is of little importance - I have dumped most of the monies left in this challenge on some poor bets including one on Djocko when he fought back ... even had a bet on under 5.5 goals in a Brazil football game the other night ... going to sleep (after 20mins into the match) thinking I have picked up a bit of money only to wake up and see they won 8-0 ... ![]() In any case .... as it is my money (and hence my right) I declare this challenge a complete failure with a loss of £1K. However in my nature of sticking with it ... I will open a new £100K challenge thread ... and given that this was supposed to be the last one ... not sure what title I will give it .... this new challenge started today .... |
