Was a bookmaker mainly in betting shops, also Greyhound and Horse Racing tracks
mainly in the Midlands under my own steam, and did a shortish spell with a Southern
Course Bookmaker.

So you know the game inside out,and bookmaking is a tough game,over the years were there many that made the game pay from a punting perspective percentage wise would you say.

Wouldn't say I knew it inside out but perhaps better than most. Regards those
who made it pay, not many winners in the shops, mainly betting forecasts, accas,
dogs, etc high percentage margin in favour of the books. On course was a bit
different, very competitive betting and I was glad to get out of it in the end.
Dogs were hard as usually only a couple of dogs backed, and difficult to win despite
good margins. Both the tracks I worked at are now housing estates !!

Changing times Ken,I guess most pros are on the machine nowadays,would you think it is very difficult to make a living out of punting nowadays ie 50K + Per year.

What name did you trade under Ken?

Ken, did you work at Jarvis on the main high street of the town from which you take your forum name?

Captain, I lived in that town for a while but was never involved in either of
the betting shops in that particular main Street. Both shops gone now as far as
I know.

G.Hall, I guess it's possible but don't ask me how to do it !!
It's very difficult to win betting straight with the strong
markets very efficient and the people who do are mainly traders and
Betfair.

No problem,i had a shop between Stratford and Evesham many moons ago,thats now gone.
