Been away on holiday for a couple of weeks and come back to find that the old Betfair site is now practically impossible to use (on any browser).

To begin with, the Sports Homepage takes an age to load (Chrome prompt states 'waiting for messaging.betfair.com' / 'waiting for games.betfair.com'). I've had to refresh the page several times to just get the page to load fully.

Markets are also not loading properly - either incredibly slow or not loading at all. In fact, the whole site is now noticeably clunky and in a markedly worse state than at the start of the month.

As a result of these problems I think to myself: maybe Betfair have actually sorted the Beta site out, made a lot of changes, and are now slowly reducing support for the old site as they push towards a full roll-out of the new version.

So I tried out, once again, 'the new improved Betfair' with a faint flutter of hope in my cynical head. Go to the first market I see and place a bet - all seems fine, and the Beta has visually changed for the better. Check my bet, and the wrong stake has been placed by the system. Think to myself, must be me - try again and the same thing happens. Place a bet for £111, and an £11 bet gets entered into the system. Place a bet for £444 and a £4 bet goes into the system.

This is a bug of epic proportions. How on earth the Beta can be live when this is happening is beyond me. I've had my doubts about the Betfair dev team in the past, but with the state of the site now, there is no doubt that there are some serious issues that need to be addressed. (As an aside, apart from the main bug of incorrect stake values being placed, there are a number of other things that need to be done to Beta to bring it up to standard. It is prudent to note that a new version of a site should always at least match the previous version in terms of usability/UX - taking away the most useful features does not equal improvement. In this regard, being able to execute amendments to bet stake / bet odds by simply clicking the 'Enter' button is a feature that I'm sure everyone would appreciate being added to the Beta. (You can do this on the old site of course). As it stands, making changing to your bet on the Beta is fiddly and more complicated than on the old site. There are a lot more things like this, but I'm not a paid tester.)

Anyway I, and I'm sure many others, are currently in something of a quandary: I want to use the site, but I can't use old Betfair and I can't trust new Betfair. Which unfortunately means that at the moment we can't use Betfair full stop.

Give us an update Betfair. Tell us what you're doing and tell us why everything is so bad at the moment. Tell us when it's going to get better. Communication is the key to a good relationship with your customers. Until you realise this, I'll be taking my custom elsewhere.

Just wanted to echo your sentiments this is exactly what I have found.  Have now taught myself to use Gruss software as other two options impossible to use.  The new site does the same to me leaves last number off the stake on most occasions.  Also old bets stay on the bet slip and get placed when you are looking at a completely different market.
Agree we need some comment on this from BF to clarify when it will be sorted

totally agree site is a shambles

I use the old site and must say that I do not seem to be experiencing the problems others are posting up on here.
I would agree that the site in general is slower than it used to be and sometimes the odd market or two takes a longish time to load, but overall I can get all my bets on without any serious problems.
However I add that I do not bet in play and usually bet well before the kick offs on all games ( and I only bet on football ).
But it would seem to me that BF must have a serious technical skill shortfall as there would seem to be far too many experienced old hands complaining about things.
As far as the beta site goes I haven't tried it at all, as I am generally loathe to change just for the sake of change.

Getting weird stuff on the in play on football, the amount of time played keeps going up and down, goals scored, then taken away, then scored again. WTF is going on, I cant do inplay like this :/

I don't often play on football but the last few times I have tried I go to the page with the scores and ALL the markets are unavailable.

I really don't understand their silence on all these matters. When speaking to other users to ask whether they have filled in any feedback for the beta site they all , and I mean all, say they have and it is 100% negative. I have probably filled in 50 feedback forms with every one being negative. And yet we hear nothing - I never get asked why my feedback is negative, and they seem to plough on regardless of their customer's views.

Is it me or is there low liquidity on the horses today?

A bit off topic, macarony, but I've noticed the same with other sports recently.  Today, I was pretty shocked to see how little was on the Federer match and the Spanish football.  I don't keep a record but I know there was significantly less than this time last year.

Haven't the spanish goverment kicked BF out, or was that resolved? Certainly that'd affect their football markets.

Sorry about that but it was to do with the site problems, and maybe that was putting people off placing bets. I should have been more clear

I've started using Betfair Rapid. Only basic markets but quick and reliable. Just download and away you go.

Yes, Just Checking, looks like the Spanish government have banned the exchanges.  The government also appear to be changing the rules on taxations.  I don't keep on top of these announcements but guess that explains it.  That's a real shame.

Macaroni, sorry, I wasn't meant to come across as being critical.  The site issues will have an impact on liquidity but I doubt it's huge.  Who knows though, just because it hasn't affected my betting doesn't mean it won't affect the bigger players.

If you came to BF for the first time, whether you stayed or not or got "into" it would 100% be affected by the experience you had on the site.

If as some are saying Beta can't even get the amounts right that's just going to drve them away.
